I’d be ready to cuss they asses out if I was Jimmy. Wasting my damn time on some Luke Cafferty shit because you want my brother. :smh:
I mean if I read that right, they're offering him still too. If I can get a full ride scholly and some NIL money because they really want my brother? Better than he'd get anywhere else more than likely.

Run that shit

Connie bet not let that bum back into her life. Once an abuser, always an abuser.

Season 2, Episode 7
"I thought it was nice."

"It was alright," Brice answered, using his fork to push around the green beans in front of him.

"It was better than just alright," Liz pushed back. "It’s a really good school and they really want you. Both of you."

Jimmy remained quiet as he grabbed another chicken leg, powering through another bite even though he’d been full two plates ago.

"With the portal, who knows what their team looks like next year," Tom added. "Could be a quick turnaround. Especially if they get someone like you on board, help build some momentum."

Brice nodded along, having heard this or some semblance of it during the two-hour drive to and from West Lafayette. They were right, to an extent — Purdue was a good school. A decent football program, solid facilities, respectable coaches. Just not for him. Not for the state record holder in passing yards and touchdowns. Someone like that played in South Bend, Columbus, or Ann Arbor. Not West Lafayette, Indiana.

"I guess," Brice shrugged. "Coach Elliott called this morning."

Tom and Liz shared a glance.

"Oh yeah?" Tom took a sip of his water. "What’d he say?"

"They’ve got a spot for me. Want me to visit," Brice said, flatly.

"I like Tony," Tom said candidly. "But I don’t know if they’re the answer, Brice."

"Is Purdue? Is Illinois? I don’t think any of them are," Brice shook his head. "I might as well see something different, experience another part of the country instead of being right down the road from where I actually want to be."

"I get your frustration," Tom assured him. "But if you want to be the starting quarterback at Notre Dame one day, no better place than to show out at a school like Purdue. The last thing they want to have to hear about is how this kid down the road is outplaying C.J."

"That’s right, honey," Liz nodded, placing her hand over Tom’s.

"Let’s be honest," Tom sighed. "You were going to have to redshirt and then sit behind him for another year anyway. So you might as well get your growing pains somewhere else, maximize your earning potential, and then be the best quarterback available when C.J. goes to the draft. It honestly kind of works out in your favor."

Of course it does, Jimmy thought, tearing another piece of meat from the bone. It always did for Brice. Always.

...

"Wait, what?"

"Yeah, we just ran into each other," Connie shrugged as she stuffed some wrapping paper into the small box, setting it aside before grabbing another Amazon package.

Skylar’s eyes flicked toward her. "What’d you guys talk about? Wait—are you even allowed to speak to each other?"

"I guess. The case is over anyway," Connie said. "I don’t know, it just felt… good, you know?"

Skylar didn’t say anything, not at first. Her mind was racing too quickly. So many questions she wanted to ask. So many she couldn’t.

"Was he like… mad?"

"Not really." Connie looked out the window, where droplets from the morning rain still clung to the glass. "He actually apologized."

"For what? I thought he didn’t—"

"Just for everything else that had happened," she said softly. "I don’t know. He just seemed different but like him, you know? The good parts of him."

"I guess," Skylar muttered, trying to sound detached. "Almost going to jail can do that to someone."

The scissors clicked and the tape tore in the silence that followed. The only sound in the room was the rustle of wrapping paper and the faint hum of a heater in the corner. Connie kept her eyes on the window — lost in that world that once existed, the one she used to know with him. For the first time in months, it didn’t feel impossible anymore.

"Would I be crazy to—"

"What?" Skylar looked up quickly, heart tightening.

"I don’t know," Connie exhaled. "I feel like we’ve been through so much that this doesn’t even feel like something we can’t come back from, you know?"

"Bitch, you are crazy," Skylar cackled, too loud, too sharp. "There’s no way you think he’s going to trust you again."

"That’d be fucking hilarious," Connie laughed, shaking her head. "You know how many times I’ve taken him back after he’s done some dumb shit?"

If she only knew, Skylar thought, her pulse quickening.

"Girl, it’s different for them," Skylar said, voice lower now, almost steady. "They feel like we’ll always take them back. But with them? Trust me, bitch—he’s always going to fucking hate you for what you did."

...

Jimmy sat cross-legged on his bed, the blue glow of his laptop screen flickering across his face. The room was quiet except for the faint hum of the ceiling fan and the occasional creak of the old house settling. He scrolled through a Reddit thread discussing Brice's recent visit which had been made public.

Wouldn’t be surprised if his little brother comes too. Package deal maybe?

Jimmy’s finger hovered over the trackpad. Package deal. He read the phrase twice, like a bruise he couldn’t help pressing.

The door cracked open, spilling light from the hallway. Sophie walked in, eating a bowl of popcorn as she sat down on the bed, not waiting for an invite. She seldomly did.

“What are you doing?”

“Nothing," he answered.

She leaned over to get a look at his laptop. “You really wanna go there?”

Jimmy shrugged. “I don’t know. Maybe. Could be cool to play with Brice.”

Sophie gave a small laugh, one that wasn’t really a laugh. “I mean, would it? Didn't you already do that?"

He finally looked up at her. “So?"

“So,” she said, tossing a kernel into her mouth, “Wouldn’t it be cooler to finally do something on your own?”

It can’t be that good that Connie is running back to him and Skylar is trying this hard to gaslight her.

Jimmy needs to kneecap Brice.

An alternate viewpoint, not necessarily one that I align with: Being Brice's brother has surely come with a lot of its own benefits, including the exposure to even get a school like Purdue (Power 4) to be looking at you despite being a rotational slot receiver/backup quarterback.
