DELAWARE PUTS UP OVER 500 YARDS OF OFFENSE LOPSIDED WIN OVER KENNESAW STATE
Kelsay accounts for four touchdowns as Hens move to 9-0

Saturday October 24, 2026 | Delaware Stadium – Newark, Delaware | 1:00 PM

Newark, Delaware - Delaware’s remarkable season rolled on Saturday with a resounding 38–0 road win over Kennesaw State, pushing the Blue Hens to 9–0 and further cementing their place as one of the most intriguing stories in college football.

What was billed as a potential trap game against a scrappy Owls squad turned into a showcase of just how far the FCS's newest team has come in their short tenure.

From the opening drive, Delaware imposed its will. Darrion Dupree’s one yard plunge midway through the first quarter gave the Hens an early lead, and they never looked back.

The second quarter turned into a clinic. Skyler Sholder nailed a 34 yard field goal to extend the margin, then quarterback Mason Kelsay took over, first bulldozing into the end zone himself from four yards out and then, with just 12 seconds left in the half, hitting Yannick Smith for a 16 yard touchdown that sent Delaware into the locker room up 24–0.

Any hope Kennesaw State had of clawing back evaporated.

If the first half belonged to Delaware’s balanced offense, the second half was about finishing the job.

Kelsay found Jake Bredell for a 12 yard score in the third quarter before linking up with Smith again for a 31 yard strike early in the fourth to cap the scoring.

By then, the Blue Hens’ defense had turned the game into a rout, suffocating the Owls to the tune of just 63 total yards on 40 plays, an anemic 1.6 yards per snap, and only three first downs all afternoon.

Kelsay was once again at the center of it all, throwing for 316 yards and three touchdowns while adding a rushing score of his own.

Dupree, who was largely held in check, set the tone early with tough running while Yannick Smith’s two touchdown grabs highlighted the increasingly diverse passing attack Delaware has developed as the season has progressed.

Meanwhile, the defense continued its steady dominance, forcing a turnover, allowing only 18 rushing yards on 22 attempts, and completely erasing Kennesaw State’s downfield passing game.

It was the kind of performance championship contenders produce in October, clinical, relentless, and businesslike.

Delaware’s players and coaches have been careful not to get ahead of themselves, but at 9–0 and now ranked in the Top 25, this is no longer just a feel good story. The Blue Hens are playing like a team with bigger goals in mind, and Saturday’s shutout was their loudest statement yet.

“We left some stuff out there,” Offensive coordinator DJ Porter said. “Three fumbles and five sacks, that’s not good enough. We got away with it today because our defense was lights out, but we’ve got to be sharper. We’ve got too many playmakers to be putting the ball on the ground or letting Mason take hits like that.”

Kelsay echoed those concerns.“I’m proud of the way we executed most of the game, but we’ve got to clean up the protection stuff,” he said. “I’ve got to get the ball out faster too. The standard we’re setting here means not being satisfied with just the scoreboard.”

Head coach Tony Sanchez praised the team’s focus but emphasized the bigger picture. “You don’t get to 9–0 by accident,” Sanchez said. “This group comes to work. But we’ve got more to do. Nobody in our locker room is popping champagne—this is just one more step.”

Delaware now turns its attention to the final stretch of the regular season, with a potential conference title and playoff berth in sight. And if Saturday’s performance is any indication, the Blue Hens have no plans to slow down.

BLUE HEN REPORT
News and notes from Delaware's latest game
Delaware 38 – Kennesaw State 0

Trending Up
OC DJ Porter | Delaware’s offense continued its red-hot streak, rolling up 509 yards and scoring 38 points despite a few ball security issues. Porter’s system has produced 127 points and nearly 1,600 yards in the last three games.

DC Manny Diaz | Diaz has the Delaware defense playing lights out. They are third in the nation in points allowed per game and they lead all 136 teams in total yards allowed per game and rushing yards per game. Delaware could very well see both coordinators snatched up by power four schools this winter.

QB Mason Kelsay | Kelsay followed up his career-best outing with another efficient performance, throwing for 216 yards and three scores while adding a rushing touchdown. He now has 13 total touchdowns in the last three weeks.

RB Luke Brown | Brown led the team with 74 rushing yards and also added a 25 yard reception. Providing valuable depth behind Dupree, who was not as explosive against Kennesaw State as he had been the past few weeks.

WR Yannick Smith | Smith has had an up and down season, including a 0 reception day last week, but he turned in his best performance from a yardage standpoint and caught a pair of touchdowns in the win.

TE Jake Bredell | After a quiet stretch, Bredell found the end zone against Kennesaw State, catching his second touchdown of the season. Though still limited in targets, his presence in the red zone and consistent blocking continue to add value.
Trending Down
Ball Security | The Blue Hens fumbled three times, losing just one. Though neither mistake proved costly in this one, those miscues could be magnified in tighter games.

Pass Protection | Kelsay was sacked five times after a clean slate last week. With Milovac out, the offensive line shuffle showed some growing pains. Kennesaw State MLB Donelius Johnson accounted for four sacks and five tackles for loss, despite being singled out by the Delaware coaching staff as their primary concern on the Owls defense.
Quotables
OC DJ Porter | “We’re rolling, but we’ve got to clean up the details. The fumbles and sacks aren’t acceptable, and they won’t fly come November.”

HC Tony Sanchez | “That’s a complete win. We were aggressive, physical, and played with discipline. That’s Delaware football.”

QB Mason Kelsay | “We’re starting to feel it, everything’s slowing down. I trust these guys and this scheme, and it’s showing up on Saturdays.”
Injury Notes
Delaware did not report any new injuries. CB Kahlil Ali has been cleared after missing several games with a broken collarbone. He is expected to rotate in against Rutgers.
News
Moving up | Delaware is now ranked #22 after another blowout win.

WR Trey Rhattigan | Delaware has added another recruit to the WR room, signing three star Rhattigan, the number 78 ranked WR in the nation.

OLB Keke Law | OLB target Keke Law has signed with Tulsa.
Next Up
Delaware (9-0 | 6-0) will welcome Rutgers (1-7 | 0-6) to the Tub in a non-conference matchup.

Coach Porter's Notes
Another great offensive performance for us last week on the whole, we will need to to better at securing the ball and in pass protection. Rutgers is a Big Ten team and they have Big Ten talent regardless of what their record indicates.
DT Billotte (#93) is a fast interior rusher who leads the team in sacks, they move him around so we will need to be mindful of that.
MLB Robinson (#20) is typically their MIKE. He is a speedy, smart linebacker who makes a ton of tackles, we need to do better against him than we did against Johnson last week.
They have speed at the corners and good players at safety. Sanders (#5) is their leader and he can cover a lot of field.

Kennesaw was just bird feed for the W column. Rutgers about to be the same.
