Club History
Full name: Real Valladolid Club de Fútbol, S.A.D.

Founded: 20 June 1928; 96 years ago
Ground: Estadio José Zorrilla
Capacity: 27,846
Owner: Ronaldo (82%)
President: Ronaldo
Head coach: Cesc Fabregas
League: La Liga
2023–24: Segunda División, 2nd of 22 (promoted)

Founded in 1928, Real Valladolid is one of Spain’s most historic football clubs. Based in the city of Valladolid, Castile and León, the club has spent the majority of its existence bouncing between LaLiga and Segunda División, always striving for stability in the top flight.

The club’s golden era came in the 1980s, when they regularly competed in LaLiga and even won the Copa de la Liga in 1984. Valladolid also made its first European appearance in the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1989 after reaching the Copa del Rey final the previous season.

Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Valladolid was a stable mid-table LaLiga side, producing and nurturing talents like Fernando Hierro, José Luis Caminero, and Diego Costa. However, financial struggles and inconsistency led to frequent relegations in the 21st century.

In 2018, the club entered a new era when Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazário purchased a majority stake, bringing global attention and financial investment. Under his leadership, Valladolid has worked toward becoming a sustainable, competitive LaLiga club, balancing young talent with experienced signings.

After securing promotion back to LaLiga for the 2024-25 season, Valladolid aimed to establish a new identity. Looking for a manager who could implement a possession-based, attacking style, Ronaldo made a bold decision—hiring Cesc Fàbregas as head coach.

Fàbregas, a World Cup winner and a product of Barcelona’s La Masia, brought a wealth of experience from playing at Arsenal, Barcelona, and Chelsea. His vision for Valladolid was clear: develop young talent, control games through midfield dominance, and establish the club as a LaLiga mainstay. With Fàbregas at the helm, a new era had begun at Valladolid, one built on technical excellence and tactical intelligence.
