WWE Acquires Dynasty Sports Wrestling, 8 Superstars

The WWE has struck a deal with former Grand-Slam Champion, Xixak, to acquire his wrestling promotion, Dynasty Sports Wrestling. Xixak had an incredible one year run with the WWE, winning everything there was to win, culminating with a Wrestlemania 23 victory over Kurt Angle to become WWE Champion. After winning though, he left the company and vacated the title in pursuit of running his own promotion, Dynasty Sports Wrestling. The small, 8-man promotion featured 7 unique characters, who themselves had all previously appeared on WWE programming and one new star:
- Akira Yamamoto is a 6'2", 222-pound striker inspired by martial arts. Clad in green and black ninja gear, Yamamoto blends precise taijutsu with devastating strikes, including the Kamigoye and Kinshasa.
- Apollo is a 6'4", 250-pound former boxer and semi-pro basketball player hailing from Los Angeles. Known for his purple and gold boxing gear in tribute to the Lakers, Apollo uses his devastating knockout punch, the Weapon of Mass Destruction, to bring the fight to his opponents.
- Bulk Bronson is a 6'5", 295-pound powerhouse with a background in bodybuilding. Donning black short tights, this bald, muscular juggernaut overwhelms his opponents with sheer strength and brutal intensity.
- Donny Zenk is a 5'11", 205-pound patriot with long blonde hair and a star-spangled outfit. Zenk’s high-flying athleticism, paired with his show-stealing 630 Splash, makes him a crowd favorite and an electrifying competitor.
- Mansa is a 6'3", 245-pound bruiser who fights for the cause of liberation as part of the New African-American People’s Association. With his imposing beard, combat pants, and Nation-inspired hat, Mansa dominates with power moves like the Dominator.
- Prototype is a 6'5", 235-pound former college linebacker from Wisconsin. Known for his red and white football-inspired gear, Prototype mixes power and technical skill, finishing opponents with the Protoplex or Protolock.
- Tomahawk Torres is a 5'10", 193-pound Mexican luchador whose speed and agility make him a constant threat. Paying homage to lucha libre legends, Torres wows crowds with his Spanish Fly and Frog Splash.
- Voodoo is a 6'3", 310-pound monster from Haiti, shrouded in dark magic. With his haunting presence, boogeyman-like dreads, and devastating finishers like the Voodoo Bomb, he’s one of the most feared competitors.

JBL got in an argument with Smackdown! GM Teddy Long backstage over having to defend his championship again tonight against Steiner after a controversial win at Money in the Bank. Long punished him for it, letting him know he'd be defending the United States Championship not just against Steiner, but in a 10-man Gauntlet match including the eight new signings from DSW and Steiner. And to add insult to injury, JBL would be entering first.
Akira Yamamato kicked things off and put up a great fight against JBL but eventually succumbed to a clothesline from hell and pinfall. Mansa followed suit as the #3 entrant and Prototype suffered a similar fate at #4. At #5 though, Donny Zenk was able to take advantage of a weary JBL. JBL did hit the Clothesline from Hell again but Znek was able to roll out of the ring before he could get the pin to stay alive. Later, Zenk hit him with a Codebreaker out of nowhere and then a Swanton Bomb to pin JBL and ensure there'd be a new champion on the night. Zenk was badly hurt though and was quickly eliminated by former DSW World Heavyweight Champion, Tomahawk Torres. Torres would then be pinned by the man he beat in the DSW tournament final, Apollo. Apollo followed that up by catching Voodoo with a knockout punch to make it to the last opponent, Big Poppa Pump. Apollo put up a fight but he was very fatigued after his previous fights and ended up succumbing to a nasty Frankensteiner as Scott redeemed his MITB loss with a United States Championship win tonight.

Newcomer, Gunther, defeated the IC Champion Cody Rhodes in a dominant showing in his debut. That wasn't enough for him though as he attacked Cody Rhodes after the match, seemingly bent on injuring the IC champ.

The Rock was set for a mega main event, defending the WWE championship one on one against his long-time rival Stone Cold Steve Austin. The two were going blow for blow for a while, evenly matched until Rob Van Dam came running down the ramp with both men down. He cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase, making it a Triple Threat cash in for the first time ever. Van Dam tried to isolate both Rock and Stone Cold, but couldn't get a pinfall on either early and was now properly inserted into the match. He ended up making a critical mistake when he took Stone Cold out but sauntered back into the ring not mindful of The Rock, who had gotten to his feet. Rock hit him with a Rock Bottom and then locked Van Dam in a sleeper hold, forcing him to submit to retain the belt. Van Dam has become the first person to unsuccessfully cash in the Money in the Bank briefcase.

July 2007 | RAW | Week 3

Newly crowned US Champ, Scott Steiner, makes his way down to the ring.
Match #1: Jimmy Uso vs. Rey Mysterio | One on One | Normal
Rey Mysterio defeated half of the tag team champions, Jimmy Uso, after the two got into a series of traded blows that Rey won. Mysterio then climbed the top rope and hit Uso with a West Coast Pop to get the victory. In a shocking move though, Mysterio assaulted Jimmy after the match signaling the start of a heel turn for the long-time fan favorite luchador.

Scott Steiner participate in his first match since winning the United States Championship but faced a tough test in former 4 time US Champ, John Cena. Cena was all over Steiner early, eventually hitting him with an F-U that the champ was somehow able to kick out of. Steiner started to gain momentum, hitting Cena with his finisher, but that also was only good enough for two. Cena was able to take advantage of a ref distraction and poke Steiner in the eyes later in the match, hitting him with a second F-U after to get the win. While he celebrated though, a returning AJ Styles came rushing to the ring and confronted Cena head on as the two stared each other down heading into the commercial break.

The Rock came out with the WWE Championship and a briefcase. He made an announcement during his promo to the fans that he would be retiring the WWE Championship in favor of one of his favorite belts of all time, the World Heavyweight Championship, Big Gold Belt. Batista, a former World Heavyweight Champion in his own right, came out to the ring and offered Rock a handshake in a seeming show of respect. He pulled his hand away at the last second though, disrespecting the People's Champ and prompting Rock to challenge him to a match. Batista overwhelmed The Rock with his power at first, but Rocky was eventually able to take control, beating Batista somewhat easily all said and done with the Rock Bottom.

CM Punk got a hard-fought victory over Drew McIntyre after kicking out of not just a Future Shock DDT but also a Claymore in this match-up. After Punk beat McIntyre though, a debuting Seth Rollins came rushing down to the ring to stand face to face with Punk. Rollins very much had started down a similar path to Punk in the independent scene particularly with the Ring of Honor promotion and now these two were standing face to face in a WWE ring instead.
