The Rock stands victorious as the final WWE Champion of the Ruthless Aggression Era.

Main Event: (#2) The Rock vs. (#3) Hulk Hogan | One on One | Semi-Final :fivestar:
In a match that will be remembered for ages, Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock clashed in a battle for the WWE Championship that had fans on the edge of their seats from start to finish.

The Rock took early control, unleashing a barrage of powerful strikes and showcasing his unmatched charisma. The crowd roared as The Rock set up for his signature People’s Elbow. With a crowd-favorite flourish, he connected with the move, covering Austin with confidence. But to everyone’s shock, Stone Cold kicked out at just 1! The arena erupted in disbelief as the Rattlesnake showed his incredible resilience.

Undeterred, The Rock maintained his focus, delivering a series of precise and punishing moves. He whipped Austin into the ropes, landing a thunderous Samoan Drop that echoed through the arena. Austin fought back fiercely, trading blows and hitting a series of impactful moves, but The Rock’s relentless determination was evident.

Stone Cold attempted his iconic Stunner, but The Rock countered with a quick reflex, turning the tables. The Rock followed up with a flurry of powerful corner clotheslines, each one wearing down the Texas Rattlesnake. The Rock then set his sights on finishing the match.

With the crowd roaring, The Rock lifted Austin for a second Rock Bottom. The move connected with stunning precision, and The Rock covered Austin once more. The referee counted—1, 2, 3!

ANNOUNCER: "The Rock has done it! The Rock is the new WWE Champion!"

The Rock stood victorious, his hand raised in triumph as confetti fell from the rafters. Despite a fierce battle, Stone Cold Steve Austin showed his indomitable spirit, but on this night, The Rock proved to be the better man, closing out the match with a well-deserved victory. This match not only crowned a new champion but also delivered an unforgettable end to an era in the WWE Universe.

Ratings Soar Following WWE Championship Tournament, Smackdown! Set to Return

Image
New WWE Champion, The Rock, is set to usher in a revival in WWE as the face of Friday Night Smackdown!

Following the end of the WWE Championship tournament in which The Rock defeated long-time rival Stone Cold Steve Austin to win the WWE Championship, WWE brought the Ruthless Aggression era and the business altogether to a close. Ratings have been struggling in recent months, and the company has been struggling to stay afloat. However, ratings during the tournament were through the roof with the company massively outperforming expectations, fueling the belief that wrestling still might be able to stay relevant in modern pop culture.

Now in 2024, rather than closing its doors, WWE is now seeking to reinvigorate itself with the spirit created during The Rock's amazing run with the return of Smackdown!, unofficially known as The Rock's show to television. Not only will it be returning, but it will be returning in lieu of Monday Night RAW, meaning that Friday Night Smackdown! will now be the company's flagship brand moving forwards.

There is an understanding though that part of the reason for the drop in ratings was over-reliance on older talent. While The Rock will be retained, several of the company's older superstars who participated in the tournament: Bret Hart, Stone Cold and Hulk Hogan among others, will also be brought back despite their slightly advanced ages 17 years later. During the tournament, Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes and young stars Roman Reigns (Rock's cousin), CM Punk and Seth Rollins had strong showings that will cement them as part of the future WWE roster. Former champions John Cena, Randy Orton, Batista, Rob Van Dam and Kurt Angle will also be brought back to the company.

The tag division will feature old favorites D-Generation X, the New World Order, the Steiner Brothers, the Brothers of Destruction and the Dudley Boyz, but also younger teams like the current World Tag Team Champions, The Usos, The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) and Imperium. It is also expected that some new signings will help fill out the mid-card division with the company in contact with stars like Finn Balor, Dominik Mysterio, AJ Styles, Bron Breakker and Shinsuke Nakamura to sign new deals. There are currently no plans to bring back the Women's Division.

This is an exciting shift and new era for the company and one that will hopefully be a success, led by possibly the company's greatest ever superstar and current WWE Champion, The Rock. Cody Rhodes, JBL and the Usos will also continue on as the Intercontinental, United States and World Tag Team Champions respectively after having held those belts
