Bye week comes at the right time for a Bulldogs offense that is beginning to sputter
MSU's offense appears to be running out of gas following hot start

For an offense that is averaging forty-five points per game, going four quarters without an offensive touchdown feels like a lifetime. Between the final three quarters of the loss to Florida and the dreadful start to the eventual win over UConn, Mississippi State's offense failed to reach the endzone. As they head into the bye week, Bulldogs head coach G.J. Kinne says the momentary reprieve comes at the right time.

"We've got guys banged up, trying to get healthy," Kinne said on Sunday of the team's plan for this bye week, "I think it's going to be more of a mental approach to this week. Get guys healthy, really get our offense going again because we haven't been at our best for the last few weeks and we've got a lot of things to clean up going forward."

Senior running back Sean Cuono made quite the return last week, staring in the win over the Huskies with 239 yards of total offense and three touchdowns. He only played eight snaps in the season opener before missing the next four games with an injury. Top outside receiver Jamison Hamm, who hasn't played since the Tennessee game, is also nearing a return although it's unlikely, according to Kinne, that he plays before the month is over.

The bye week also provides a reset for true freshman quarterback Brett Mixon whose thrown an interception in four consecutive games. Mixon leads college football in drop backs with 319, accounting for nearly seventy percent of MSU's offensive plays. It's a trend that Kinne isn't sure is sustainable nor in the best interest of Mixon or the team.

"I think the identity of our offense is clear," Kinne said of the pass-first approach, "I still think there's a balanced way of going about that and a sustainable way of doing it, especially with a young guy at quarterback. He's played six or seven college football games. He's closer to being a high school player than he is to what he's eventually going to be so as a team, we have to do a better job of protecting him, whether that's up front, with the run game, play calling, game planning, all of it."

MSU finishes the season with the teeth of their SEC schedule. They travel to #6 Missouri next week before hosting #10 Georgia, on the road against Arkansas and #1 Texas A&M and end the season at home against Texas, with Steve Sarkisian likely coaching for his job, and then the Egg Bowl.

you let them paper tigers punk you? :smh:

shit talk aside - an expected loss tbh. wins over Tennessee and Florida are encouraging even with a disappointing loss

fraud because we lost to the #4 team in the country by 3 points, on the road, and didn't get the ball back after scoring with 4 minutes left

respect

As long as we can find two more wins this season, a bit of a success tbh. We should beat Arkansas, just need to find another

Did you win or not?

They don't give out championships for moral victories.
