The Devil's Due Mailbag — Week Two Preview

It's been over a year since the Sun Devils' football program was ranked, falling out of the Top 25 in the 2025 season in mid-October. But after stringing together a four-game win streak, ASU has once again cracked the list and is hoping to ride that momentum to finish out the season strong with a ranked matchup against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
OSU had been leading the pack in the Big XII, until the Kansas State Wildcats served them a slice of humble pie. Still, with an upset win over Texas Tech, the Cowboys are still gunning for a spot in the conference championship. Whichever school loses this weekend in Tempe will be officially eliminated, adding even more fuel to an already volatile matchup.
Pitchfork Points
Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers.I feel like a broken record at this point, cause this problem has stretched across two separate quarterbacks now. But can someone throw the ball to the good guys, please? We've survived to this point with Fette as the starter, but at some point the defense isn't going to be able to back him up. His debut was dazzling, but we've kind of survived his mistakes since. We need another solid outing to have confidence in the young gun to close out the season strong.
Where has Winston gone?Emar'rion Winston is still our leading sacker, but has only added three sacks to his total since missing some time with an upper arm fracture earlier in the season. He hasn't recorded a sack in either of the last two games, instead commanding double teams while CJ Fite and Zac Swanson finally break through. Getting production from others is nice, but I'd love to see a Winston sack party in one of the biggest games of the year.
Can the secondary hold up against the Cowboy's aerial assault?I feel like since the defense started nabbing interceptions, we've given them a pass for getting lit up. That can't continue against the Cowboys. They've got a six-shooter full of weapons and we simply won't survive if Mestemaker has the time, and windows, to throw like AB3 did last week. We can't bank on interceptions and fumbles to save us all season. It's time to flex our muscle.
