DeJean Staying In Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh, PA. - The "Khanartist" strikes again.

Cooper DeJean, one of the most coveted cornerbacks on the free agent market, has reportedly agreed to a four-year, $88 million contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers—a massive investment in a secondary that will face some of the NFL's elite quarterbacks twice a year.

The Steelers may have passed on re-signing Alex Highsmith and Marlon Humphrey, but the opportunity to sign a 25-year-old Pro Bowl cornerback fresh off three Super Bowl appearances proved too enticing to pass up.

With Jalen Ramsey entering the final year of his contract and turning 34 next season, the Steelers needed to plan for the future while maintaining their championship window. DeJean provides both immediate impact and long-term stability at one of the game's most important positions.

"You look at what Cooper can do, and he's going to be all over the field," defensive coordinator Brian Flores said after the signing. "He can play nickel, fill in at safety, cover deep in dime sets—it's really astounding the type of versatility he's going to provide for our defense."

That versatility is exactly what separates DeJean from Humphrey, whom the Steelers signed last offseason to bolster the secondary. While Humphrey excelled in man coverage as a traditional boundary corner, DeJean's ability to play multiple positions gives Flores the flexibility to deploy complex coverage schemes and disguise looks pre-snap.

It's particularly valuable given the quarterback gauntlet Pittsburgh faces in the AFC North and throughout the conference. Joe Burrow in Cincinnati. Lamar Jackson in Baltimore. Plus regular matchups against Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and other elite signal-callers in the playoff race.

"When you're competing for championships, you need to be able to match up with the best," GM Omar Khan said. "Cooper gives us that ability. He can shadow their best receiver, play in the slot on third downs, or drop deep as a robber in zone. That kind of chess piece is invaluable."

At $22 million per year, DeJean becomes one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL and consumes a significant chunk of Pittsburgh's available cap space. But the Steelers view it as a necessary investment to maintain their defensive identity while transitioning from Ramsey to the next era of Pittsburgh secondary play.

The expectation is that DeJean and Ramsey will form a dominant duo for the 2028 season, with Joey Porter Jr. manning the other boundary corner spot. In 2029, when Ramsey's contract expires, DeJean will slide into the CB1 role he's being paid to fill long-term.

"This is about winning now and winning later," Khan said. "Cooper is in his prime. He's proven he can perform on the biggest stages. And he's going to be a cornerstone of this defense for the next four years."

Khan made it clear that the DeJean signing represents Pittsburgh's only big-money move this free agency period. With the contract consuming roughly $22 million in cap space annually, the Steelers have limited financial flexibility remaining.

"We realistically had one big contract in us this cycle, and you're looking at it," Khan admitted. "Everything else will be value signings, draft picks, and developing the talent we already have. But when you get a chance to add a player like Cooper, you don't let him walk out the door."

The Steelers still have needs to address—most notably right guard and depth at linebacker—but those holes will likely be filled through the draft or smaller veteran signings rather than splashy free agent additions.

For now, the focus is on what DeJean brings to a defense that already features two-time Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt, elite linebacker Patrick Queen, and emerging star Joey Porter Jr.

"We just added one of the best young corners in football to an already elite defense," Flores said. "I can't wait to get to work."

The Khanartist has struck again. And this time, he went all-in.

Pittsburgh, PA. - The Pittsburgh Steelers announced thy inked veteran offensive guard Patrick Mekari to a one-year, $6 million deal to add stability to the offensive line.

According to reports, the Steelers engaged both Teven Jenkins and Mason McCormick, but when they signed with the Chicago Bears and Tennessee Titans, respectively, the Steelers switched gears.

Sources close to the Steelers organization indicate this is likely the last free agency signing before the draft as Pittsburgh will attempt to fill the rest of their depth through the draft, where they have seven total picks including two 1st-round and two 2nd-round picks.
