Another Major Test In Death Valley

Before we get to the big test on the road vs LSU. It was one of the easiest SEC games we will ever have and that's home vs Kentucky who has just a 72 grade. Hazzard jumps out to a 21-point 1st quarter then adds 10 in the 2nd until winning 44-0. The defense holds them to just 153 yards of offense and gets 2 turnovers. We spread out the HB carries with nobody getting more then 5.

5 Game Balls vs Kentucky
HB Tejada = 5 carries for 80 yards, 2 TD
OT Cox = 17 pancakes, 1 sack allowed
OT Amaro - 16 pancakes, 0 sacks
CB Burns = 5 tackles, 2 PBU
LB O'Connor = 8 tackles, 2 TFL

Editor's Note - This was one of the 2 games I just watch so that's why no highlights and a little goofy stats

________________________________________________

The SEC schedule didn't do us any favors this year as it's the 3rd major test on the road. This time vs LSU who has 2 loses and ranked 16th, but a 99 overall team and the #1 stadium ranking. It will be a great test after the heartbreak loss vs Alabama.

We kick a FG the first drive then got the ball back quickly and go up 10-0. That backup speedy HB Gossett continues to make plays and scores from 11 yards out. This was from I-form pro with a hole that you could have drove a truck through. CB Hassenauer (86 ovr) is making his case for the Hall of Fame this year and gets an interception. Late in the 2nd as we are just trying to waste clock HB Tejada goes untouched 88 yards for the TD and shocking the route is on. Our defense is a force and gets another 3 and out and we add a TD in the final seconds before half. The jet option was ruled a pass so this helps out QB Cesaro's stats. The defense wasn't done getting 2 more interceptions in the 3rd quarter. Everyone's favorite TE Prosinski also scored on a 26-yard run and we are going to have to work on where he holds the ball. The best defense performance we have ever seen in our lives and we are in shock. With 3 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter LSU has just 69 yards of offense. We did decide to play backups in the 4th quarter and they ended piling up some yards in the 4th with 2 TD's and 235 passing yards. Hazzard blows out the most talented team in the country on the road and win 45-14

5 Game Balls vs LSU
CB Hassenauer = 3 tackles, 1 PBU, 1 INT
CB Childress / LB Lincoln = 1 Int each
S Alvarado = 7 tackles, 1 PBU
HB Tejada = 9 carries for 150 yards, 1 TD
DE Chryplewicz / LB Tutt = 1 sack each

10 Midseason Storylines

1. Where's the Passing Game ?
Last year QB Cesario had the best passing season in Hazzard history 73% with 25 TDs and 8 Interceptions. With a WR/TE Room that is just as good and his improvement we figured that would cancel out the improved competition. So far this year he hasn't played well with 5% less,15 yards less a game and just 4 TD and 4 Interceptions. We are chalking this up to having 3 major road games vs elite teams and the stats will come the 2nd half of the season. We are never going to throw for a lot of yards, but he want more passing TDs in the redzone when teams stack the box. With a 88 overall grade we project him to go pro after his Junior season

2. Should Junior Office be Starting at QB?
Fan's love the backup QB and when you run the ball 80% of the time it's expected you will start the guy with 94 speed, 90 accel/agility and platinum magician over the guy with 85/80/80. With the slow start of Cesario it has fans wanting to put in Office and open up more of the triple option game. Junior definitely isn't a thrower with just 86 arm power and best accuracy a near capped out 81. For now Uncle Jesse has no plans to make a QB change, but with 2 games coming up as big favorites we could see Junior take some snaps. It's shaping up that Junior battles with a 5* QB this spring or maybe even mores to HB

3.#7 Ranking
After the crazy over reaction and dropping to #12, Hazzard is back up to #7. With a schedule that softens the 2nd half we do project to make the playoffs. We still have to face #9 Florida at home and #19 A&M on the road.

#4 HB Tejada Not in Heisman Race
Many expected the senior HB to be up for the award coming off the Doak Walker last year and a grade of 92 overall. He is having a big year with 672 yards and 5 TD's, but he has just 3 catches. The receiving stats is something the voters look for. He also hasn't be needing to carry the load with some other senior power backs around to the dirty work. Tejada is a hoss with 98 speed, 99 accel,99 agility, 99 change of direction, 99 break tackle, 86 trucking and platinum downhill. He is currently 7th in the country in yards so it's not going to take much to get him into the award races. The Doak Walker could be tough with FSU HB Ogletree with 855 and 13.

#5 LB Jimmy Tutt Steps Up
We went with speed and unproven in our LB room and it's been just fine. Junior Jimmy Tutt (81 ovr) has stepped up with 30 tackles, 10 TFL and 6 sacks. If he can get some more tackles and get those sacks at 10+ he can be up for some post season awards. He had just normal dev and will be back for his senior season next year

#6 Pass Defense 19th in Country
After being top 10 last year and nearly everyone back we weren't sure how it would fare in the SEC. Even with a loaded front half schedule the pass defense is 19th in the country with 209 per game. It does have some fans wishing we hadn't gone to the 2nd string vs LSU in the 4th quarter. We have 3 underclassmen CB's with playing style deal breaker, so we have to pay attention to this as we need all 3 of them back next year and we are barely making them happy. This unit could look way different next year with the following players all expected to leave or easily could Senior CB Burns (89), Sophomore Toney (87), Sophomore Hassenauer (86), Sophomore FS Alvardo (93), Sophomore SS Grymes (88)

#7 Gossett's Not Waiting Till Next Year
Jahlil Gossett (85 ovr) is the #1 HB for next year his deal breaker is pro potential which we have meet. Then we are about to get 3 or 4 more HBs drafted this year. He is a E/W playmaker so a speed type with 99 speed, 98 accel and platinum shifty. We use him as the #2 HB so he plays in formations like flexbone, wishbone and then also is our return guy. He wasn't awaiting around and his 7 rushing TD's lead the team and he only has 31 carries. He has also added 10 catches and 1 TD as well as 2 PR's for TD. This could mean he wins the jet award and maybe a increase to his impact dev. We could be a little thin at HB compared to usual next year, but we definitely know who the #1 will be

#8 7th Ranked Recruiting Class
A bit of a tease here as we are going to wait a few more weeks until we go in depth on who has committed. We have just 4 commits with 1 5* and three 4*. We are currently in week 7 and week 8 is the big recruiting week for us. We will have 5* elite QB Jame Leamon, 4* gem blocking TE Jose Franco, 4* OG Trent Abraham and 5* gem C Finau Hufanga all on campus. We currently lead for all 4 guys so baring something unexpected we expect commits from all of them after they visit. We will also be able to schedule late visits for weeks 9 which will be a big one since it's Florida. Then also weeks 12 and 13.

#9 SEC Champ Game Likely
With a 4-1 SEC record it's likely Hazzard will make the SEC title game in year 1. SEC does play 9 conference games now and just 1 we are saying is an automatic win. It's to early to tell who we will face off with, but we are hoping for a rematch with Alabama or maybe the 99 overall UGA team. We don't play UGA in the regular season

#10 238-pound HB Carswell Make His Debut
We scouted the earth far and wide for athlete contact seeker HB and finally 2 years ago we found one we thought was good enough to offer. We always like the normal contact seeker HB's better even with them coming in about 25 pounds less. People have mixed opinions of Eric despite him being a 4* gem, he had just impact dev and some are scared away by his 85 speed and 86 acceleration. As we said a 238-pound HB with 89 trucking and 91 acceleration. However, the elusiveness is close to capped out and no real abilities at this time. Eric was solid in his debut vs the starting unit of LSU and had 11 carries for 49 yards. He will get the benefit of some HB's getting drafted which will help. Look for him to work on that power and start at flexbone FB next year. We are losing 3 senior HB's and then 2 more likely to leave early for the draft.

Holding Serve

Hazzard took care of business in both games they were heavy favorites, but they didn't cover the spread.

Mississippi state leaves the 6'6 Brigance unguarded inside the 5 for the first TD. Then Gossett gets his 3rd PR for a TD and basically wraps up the Jet Award before we even know the nominees. Right before half and about to go up 12 our power HB Gay fumbles. Tejada has a 76-yard impressive run and Hazzard wins this one 35-7 on the road. One of the better games for our starting QB highlighted by 2 short rushing TDs. We leave to many points on the board with just a 37% redzone % including a rare turnover on downs inside the 5. They also held us to 1/4 on 4th down. A big game for our LB Tutt and maybe this will make him a candidate for some awards. Overall a SEC win on the road by 28 with no injuries you will take it.

The next game was suppose to be the easiest of the year a Out of conference showdown with one of the worst teams in the country. We overlooked them I guess as we are only up 10 at half and that was with a FG at the buzzer. We took the liberty fo resting some seniors the plan was to throw the ball a lot and work on that. Then our QB Cesario and HB Tejada gets banged up so we go ahead and give them the day off. We did get 7 catches and a 1 TD from out big 5* TE, but he had less then 20 yards. We talked about how the fans wanted to see the 94 speed QB start and this game will only raise those voices. Junior Office had 50 yards rushing with 2 TD and was 85% passing. Uncle Jesse says he is sticking with Cesario, but Office looked like the fastest QB in the country tonight. We win it 34-16 and they pile up a pretty good amount of passing yards here by the coolest named QB in the country John Wayne with 278.

5 Game Balls
QB Cesario = 12/18, 104 pass yards, 3 total TD, 0 Int
HB Tejada = 12 carries for 197 yards, 1 TD & 3 catches for 40 yards
HB Gosset = 17 rush yards, 34 receiving yards, 97 PR yards, 1 TD
LB Tutt = 11 tackles, 2 TFL, 1.5 sacks, 1 PBU
DT Mondeaux = 3 tackles, 2 TFL, 1.5 sacks

5 Game Balls
QB Office = 12/14, 125 pass yards, 3 total TD, 50 rush yards
TE Willingham = 2 catches for 53 yards
LB Tutt = 10 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 PBU
LB O'Connor = 4 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sack, 1 PBU
DT Saubert = 5 tackles, 4 TFL, 2 sacks

I have no clue where that defense performance came from easily the best I've ever seen in 10 years. My defense is good rated high mid 90's and generally will finish top 10 in scoring and pass defense. But this was on the road vs a 99 overall offense so i was shocked. I do know kinda regret going to mostly 2nd stringers in the 4th quarter. But I had several starters starting to show wear and tear and didn't want to risk injuries. They would have still likely put up yards as they always do in the 4th just not sure if would have been 200.

First Ever Elite QB Commits to Hazzard
It's week 9 so let's take a look at recruiting which is likely the last look we will have before early signing day. After never finishing in the top 10 as of now Hazzard is 4th with 3 five * and five 4*. With a 18 person senior class and more that will enter the portal or go pro plenty of room to secure the first ever top 5 class. We definitely didn't get everyone losing out on CB Ojaba to UGA who was in our 5 most wanted. Then Dylan Blank a 4* S to Texas and the last major one 4* Jimmy Whithair to Florida

QB James Leamon - 5*
We talked about him earlier in the year and we have never even got a 4* commit from the QB spot and now we have a 5*. We saw the commit coming and a week pulled out of the other 5* Ben Richey who likely ends up in the conference with UGA. James is as exciting of a player as you get a 6'5 5* QB with 90 speed, 92 acceleration and 81 break sack. His arm strength at 91 is solid, but could be better. His accuracy is a weak spot with 76 short being the high. As always it comes down to dev trait and you would like to see some abilities. However a QB that's that fast in this offense we can make up for the accuracy in year 1. Now the attention turns do you start him day 1 ? Does Cesario come back for his senior year? What do you with current 94 speed QB Junior Office ? Do you use him in backup role year 1 and mop up duty to keep him happy and play someone else ?

TE Jose Franco - 4* gem
Prosinski is going to be the best player in school history and everyone knows that. However, we use a ton of 2 and 3 TE sets and we have 4 TE's graduating. Jose is the super rare 4* gem TE and we are hoping for star dev. Blocking TE's develop better then anyone in the game so if he gets that dev trait a lock for a 1st round pick. He already has 73 run block and 83 strength. We expect him to be TE #2 next year and we still need to add a few TE's and typically the portal is kinda weak at that spot so will look at some 3*.

C / ATHL Damarius Winter - 5*
We talked about C/ Athlete Finau Hufanga as part of our 5 must have commits and its 99% certain he commits to us this week. Damarius is another similar looking prospect likely to end up at C or OG since he has 3 abilities screen enforcer, quick step and quick drop. He has 85 accel, 80 run block, 89 impact block and 82 pass block and appears like a 100% lock to be a stud in the OL. He has a gold OL rally ability and is 307 pounds

OG Tim Uluave - 4* gem
We talked about Tim in our 5 must have guys and he was one we thought we would lose out on to USC. They had the pipeline advantage by +5 being the in state school and had him in for a visit. We pull off a major win for he raw strength OL and since his deal breaker is play style he will never leave us. He doesn't have any abilities, but 91 strength and 77 run block. We will redshirt him and he can compete for a starting job as a redshirt freshman. The 40th overall player in the class and a 4* gem he is basically a 5*, but won't require a ton of playing time that first year.

OG Trent Abraham - 4*
The 129th player in the class and another OL here which you see a trend. He has 91 strength and 77 run block. We likely redshirt him year 1 and is a raw strength type

OT Gage Meeks - 4* gem
You guessed it another great looking OL prospect a 4* gem with 88 strength and 74 run blocking. He has no abilities and a little less run blocking so he will need time to develop so will redshirt. He was another almost 5* ranked 35th in the country. He is a big'un as well 6'7 and 326 pounds that we thought we could lose to the in state Washington. With the other 5* C this OL is going to be the best in the country by a wide margin in about 2-3 years.

DE Isaac Harper - 5*
As we said we only went after him because he is from Hazard KY even though that's not where we are from as we are in Georgia. Still a 5* pure power type with 91 strength, 82 accel, 76 block shed and 81 tackle. We likely put him on the 2nd unite and special teams and hopes that keeps him happy and doesn't leave us for playing time. He is 6'6 and 222 so likely fits in as a base DE more then a pass rusher

S Regie Addison - 4*
A 4* and could potential start next year if some players leave us or we can't get anyone in the portal. The coverage type which is what we look for at the position so a great scheme fit with 92 speed, 82 zone just needs work tackling. He is the 216th player in the class and in a perfect world is a 2nd unit player. But we are thin with young S so he may have to play next year

Maybe Daisy is why my campus lifestyle grade is respectable. Yea this is easily the best class I've had and should be my first inside the top 5. At this rate I may not have many spots reaming from the portal as I try not to over sign.

QB Controversy In Hazzard

A big game vs Florida who came into this ranked 9th at 6-2, but would go on for a bad 2nd half of the season with an 89 rated roster. Nick Ball who is filling in at slot CB gets a pick 6. Then Cesario scores a rushing TD and the good guys are up 17-7 at half. Late in the 4th our backup Junior Office breaks a long one and you will see at the end of the run we try and just get down to end clock. but it was to late. Our defense ends up giving us the ball back a few plays later. The Florida defense was tough and held us to just 20 points as we win this one 27-17. We had just 339 yards of offense and just 22 passing yards

5 Game Balls
OT Amaro = 10 pancakes, 0 sacks
S Grymes = 10 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 PBU
DE Redmond = 3 tackles, 2 TFL, 1.5 sacks, 1 INT
DE Chryplewicz = 3 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sack
LB O'Connor = 9 tackles
________________________________________________________

A potential trap game on the road vs A&M who while note elite has talent. It wasn't as Hazzard wins this one with ease and easily covering the spread 49-13. They didn't stop our run game as we get 349 yards on 51 carries and add 94 passing yards. We did get the passing game going a little more while under 100 yards we did have 3 TDs. The bad news star freshman TE got hurt, but he will be back next. He did have a TD catch before leaving. We held them to just 165 passing yards and we are now in great shape with our DB playing style grade. A name to file away HB Tim Kong (77 ovr) who saw his first action. Tim is being redshirted and has a playing time dealbreaker we will need to get him into the game down the stretch to keep him happy. On top of having a awesome name he has star development as a elusive brusher. He looked good in his first action.

5 Game Balls
QB Cesario = 10/13, 88 pass yards, 3 TD, 1 INT
HB Tejada = 7 carries for 109 yards. 1 TD
HB Kong = 11 carries for 72 yards, 1 TD
LB Lincoln = 6 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack
CB Burns = 5 tackles, 4 PBU

____________________________________________________________
Auburn at home in the rain turned into one of those games you just have to survive. While he would have 2 drops in this game star freshman TE Prosinski gets another TD and helps Hazzard to into the locker room up 17-7. What didn't help was the 3 interceptions thrown by our QB including one that was returned all the way. Our backup QB Office would throw a TD as they decide to not guard our 6'6 WR inside the 5. We added some new plays before the year from singleback and find a tricky type one a jet pa boot and it works for a TD to Tejada. Despite us getting a safety Auburn takes a lead on a 70-yard TD run and we have just about 2 minutes to come back or the season could be over. Backup QB Junior Office is in the game as Cesario was hurt and he makes the QB controversy a real thing as he wins the game on a playaction bootleg and shows off that 4.3 speed. A ugly win 37-34 as we lose the turnover battle by 3. We again hold a team to under 200 passing yards

5 Game Balls
QB Office = 24 pass yards,32 rush yards, 3 total TD
HB Tejada = 13 carries for 129 yards & 3 catches for 62 yards 1 TD
HB Gossett = 27 rush yards, 5 catches for 66 receiving yards, 39 KR yards
LB O'Connor = 7 tackels, 1 TFL, 1 sack
DE Chryplewicz = 2 sacks

________________________________________

The final regular season a easy one vs Mayberry and we win 46-10. We thought it was going to be sort of close with no score in the mid 2nd until we turned it on. We took this chance to play a lot of backups with another off week coming. One of those was our starting QB Cesario and now who knows who will start for the SEC title game vs Oklahoma. This game should ensure HB Tim Kong is back and that was a priority with a lot of our HB's getting drafted

QB Office = 9/15, 199 pass yards, 2 total TD, 1 INT
WR Brigance -= 67 rush yards 27 receiving yards, 1 TD
HB Kong = 12 carries for 79 yards
S Grymes = 13 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 PBU
4 players with 1.5 sacks each
