2026 Week Three Preview - Oregon State (2-1) @ Stanford Cardinal (1-1)
Ricky McKinley // Dam DailyPublished: September 25th, 2026

Get ready for a trip down memory lane this weekend when the Oregon State Beavers visit former Pac-12 rival Stanford, now a member of the ACC, looking to extend their three-game winning streak against the Cardinal. Both programs have fallen on hard times since the dissolution of the Pac-12, each holding a 7-17 record over the last two years. Call me a homer, but one of these programs is on the rise, and one is stuck in the mud. Oregon State is clearly on the rise, while the Cardinal are finding that the grass isn't always greener.

Oregon State is looking to eclipse their 2025 win total, seeking their third win of the season, while the Cardinal are hoping to rebound from a tough 48-30 shelling by the LSU Tigers last week. Here is a quick recap of where each program stands before this weekend's showdown followed by our weekly "Leon's Lowdown."

Leon's Lowdown

RM: "Welcome back to another edition of 'Leon's Lowdown' with the one, the only, Coach Mando. Let me just say before we start—I love the idea of re-igniting some of these former Pac-12 rivalries in non-conference play. Does the program have more of these cooked up in the future?"

AL: "It's definitely something we're going to integrate as much as we can, Ricky. We've already got other commitments locked in, but anytime we can schedule even one former rival, it's a win. The fans on the West Coast loved the old conference, myself included, so getting a chance to re-ignite some of those is definitely on the board. Hopefully we can get a home and home with someone like Washington or USC, sometime in the future."

RM: "Love getting the old gang back together. Focusing on this week, what're you guys seeing on tape? Should fans be expecting a shootout a la Houston, or another knock-em-down slugfest like last week?"

AL: "They've definitely got playmakers. Elijah Brown has a ton of upside and showed out with four touchdowns against Hawaii and three more in the loss to LSU. So our philosophy is the same as always, force them into mistakes. The benefit we have is athletically, they don't have a true burner, so we don't need to worry about getting beat over the top, so long as we play sound coverage. Blanket receivers, hit the QB. That's always on the agenda."

RM: "They can't complete passes if they're on their backs...pause. Last question before we let you off the hook, Coach. Coach Sean Lewis called out your defense after the win last week, saying they benefited from Denegal being knocked out of the game. Is it safe to say that the team is coming out with a chip on it's shoulder in Palo Alto, despite coming off a win?"

AL: "Coach Lewis motivates his guys his own way, we do it differently over here. I could lose my entire starting lineup to injury, but you would never hear me make that excuse post-game. That being said, we shut out the noise. Chopping wood and carrying water is our mentality, the hard work that no one talks about. If you need some bulletin board material to get you fired up, you're just setting yourself up to lose. The only motivation we need is our drive to make our next game, the best game. Call it cliche, rah-rah, whatever you want. We really don't care what anyone outside of Corvallis thinks."

RM: whistle "Alright, reading between the lines. Bring some backup QBs, Stanford, because Coach Mando has these men on a warpath. Best of luck out there, Coach. Here's to hoping we get to win number three early."

If this game had fallen right after Texas Tech, I'd be on the fence with how the Beavs would do. But after that confidence boost against the Aztecs? I'm fully on board that the Beavs are going to keep the winning streak going.

But before I get to my prediction - I saw all of the re-tweets about last week's prediction. I WAS BEING OPTIMISTIC, SHOOT ME!

That being said, I won't be as bullish this week. Still sticking with the boys in orange and black, but a more conservative line, say 24-17. The Cardinal has some talent on offense, but that young offensive line is going to keep their offense from being able to generate consistent momentum. However, our offense has had trouble being consistent itself, so until they start finding a rhythm, we're rolling with defensive battles that we squeak out.

If I'm wrong, you know the handle — @McRick on X and now IG.

McCreery Saves the Day Again As Beavs Gnaw the Trees
Ricky McKinley // Dam DailyPublished: September 26th, 2026

Boy, oh boy, the Beavers just added another log to the Dam as they left Stanford Stadium with a thrilling 23-20 victory after another late-game field goal by Logan McCreery sends the Beavers to 3-1 to start the 2026 campaign.

Coach Leon's defense held strong through 3 and a half quarters, keeping the Stanford Cardinal out of the end zone despite twice starting in plus territory as the Beavers held a 20-12 lead midway through the 4th quarter. But just when it seemed like the Cardinal were cooked, they found life. Facing 3rd and 1 at midfield, the Beavers crashed the line-of-scrimmage, apparently expecting a QB sneak. But instead, the Cardinal ran a pitch to HB Chris Davis Jr, who smoked Aiden Sullivan around the corner before Kyle Chen finally ran him down 48 yards later.

Two plays later and Zach Giuliano plunged into the end zone, then JonAnthony Hall corralled a tunnel screen for the two point conversion and suddenly the Cardinal went from not finding the endzone, to tying the game.

Kallen Gutridge did not want to wait to notch that third win, marching the Beavers down the field with receptions of ten and fifteen yards to David Wells Jr, before finding Malachi Durant to move within field goal range. A trio of runs later and McCreery was splitting the up-right for his second game winning kick of the season.

Coach Leon had high praise for the offense in his post-game press conference:

•••

Question One: "John Montgomery from The Stanford Daily. Coach Leon, Cardinal running back Chris Davis Jr gave your defense fits today with his final 48 yard burst nearly handing Oregon State the loss. What adjustments did you try to make to slow him down and more specifically, what happened on that 3rd down call?

Armando Leon: "Chris played a hell of a game, no shade here. We adjusted our gap assignments and changed where we were bringing pressure multiple times in the game, but he always seemed to figure it out. I know on a few of those runs our backers were caught out of position and that's something we'll have to address this week. But like I said, he played a hell of a game and sometimes all you can do is hold on for dear life and hope he doesn't win the game.

"As for the 3rd down call, they'd ran the QB sneak twice before in that same formation and had earned the first-down on the last attempt, so we thought that was the move. Instead, Davis took a pitch and the defensive end didn't seal the edge. It happens, especially when you're crashing the center, but it shouldn't have. I'm just glad our O was able to bail us out."

Question Two: "Marty Hobbart, KZSU 90.1, Coach. You mentioned the offense, but your own defense came up with a touchdown of their own. Walk us through that play."

Armando Leon: "We keep finding ways to impact the game and that's most important. On the interception, it was late in the half and they were running the two minute drill. The call was simple, press man and shade inside. Play under the receiver to go for the pick and use the sideline as an extra defender. Noble played it perfectly, baited the Elijah Brown into the throw, then made a move. It helped Brown not only threw to a covered receiver, but behind him and that allowed Noble to have enough room to accelerate for the touchdown."

Question Three: "Olivia here again Coach, with Oreognlive. Last question for you. Four different times the Cardinal were within striking distance, and each time your unit held firm. Not to mention, twice inside the red zone. How deflating was it for the first touchdown you gave up, be the one that tied the game and could have potentially sent it to overtime?"

Armando Leon: "It was unfortunate, mainly because I think that one drive is going to be the take away from this game where my guys played their asses off, again. We need to clean up some of our pursuit angles to keep Davis from having such a monster game, but even with the spark from Davis, they still needed a desperation drive and a conversion to pull even. We stood tall, even when we took the field with our backs against the wall, and that's what we'll take away from this game.

"That, and a win."

•••

It's a double edged sword for the Beavers' defense tonight. On one hand, when they did fold they allowed the Cardinal to tie the game and potentially send it to overtime. On the other, they also kept them out of the endzone despite a pair of turnovers by their own offense, and added a touchdown on a pick six to end the half.

But no matter how you slice it, the bottom line is...

BURN THOSE TREES BABY. Four straight wins over our former Pac-12 rival and more importantly, THREE WINS.

2026 Week Five Preview - Montana @ Oregon State (3-1)
Ricky McKinley // Dam DailyPublished: October 2nd, 2026

The Beavs are back to building the dam after adding a gargantuan tree in the form of the Stanford Cardinal, who the Beavs chopped to notch their third win of the season. And while they say don't count your chickens before they hatch, with FCS Montana heading to Reser's Stadium this weekend? Forget chickens—I'm counting them, plucking them, and serving them for dinner. I'd bet my house we're running our win streak to three.

With Montana coming to town, we're keeping this preview short and sweet—just the essentials and a quick hit of "Leon's Lowdown."

Leon's Lowdown

RM: "Welcome back for an abbreviated edition of Leon's Lowdown. Coach, with an FCS opponent this week we're going to make this section quick. Montana is a school you know well—you spent two years in Bozeman with Montana State, their biggest rival. What's the mindset going into a match against a foe you know so well, but on the other side now?"

AL: "First off, the media may view this as a warm-up game. But I promise you, not a single person in our locker room does. I made damn sure of that. I've been on both sides of it. My first year with the Bobcats, we took down the Lobos in the ABQ, then obviously last year we traveled up to Eugene and got the BTA as my players would say. This is still football. You never get the luxury of overlooking an opponent.

"That being said. I've never lost to Montana yet and I don't intend on ending that streak. Additionally, we have a pair of recruits on hand for the contest in MLB Dion Doucet and CB Damian Skaggs, so we've got to show out. At least a little bit. "

•••

There you have it, folks, short, sweet, and to the point. The guys are preparing like they're going to battle and Leon's still got that edge.

We're going big on this joint. 49-3. Pull your 401Ks and take it to Vegas; 'cause this one is locked in. Coach Mando ain't going to let the boys slack with new blood on the sideline. This is going to be a bloodbath.

You’re lucky Earl wasn’t playing for the Tree. Defense is looking better, just in time for the conference games to start happening.

 for the headline, well done.

Stanford is ass, low 70s is insane for a P4 team

btw, you're missing the final score for Stanford in the box score

I'm not sure what's going on with our run fits. On a lot of these big runs, they bounce them outside and simply out run out LB :smh:

yeah I saw that the minute I scrolled through this morning :pgdead:

I was surprised with how low they were, same with Boise at a 76. But I did all of the XP sliders so
