Richard Noggin is a true race fan but forget him.

Noggin might be one of the old guys McQueen beat up on on the short tracks back home.

We’re getting closer, hoping to move up to Xfinity next season. I would like to run the trucks some next season too but you can’t do part time in a lower series so I would have to run 50+ total races if I do both. Still considering it.

MCQUEEN OUTDUELS HEIM UNDER THE LIGHTS; CLAIMS REGULAR SEASON TITLE IN RICHMOND THRILLER
Image
LOGAN MCQUEEN III SURGES FROM 13TH TO WIN THE eero 250 AND LOCK UP THE REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP

Richmond Raceway under the lights has always rewarded patience, tire management, and bravery on corner entry. On Saturday night, Logan McQueen III delivered all three and then some.

Starting 13th after a tight qualifying session, the driver of the No. 51 Horizon Hobby / Peak Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado carved through the field with the precision of a veteran, the aggression of a rising star, and the weight of a championship battle on his shoulders.

By the end of Stage 1, McQueen had muscled his way to 6th, collecting five key stage points. But the run was anything but calm. A stack-up in Turns 1 and 2 forced him low to avoid a spinning truck, and by the time the smoke cleared, McQueen was the one still pointed forward.

Stage 2 brought the first major duel of the night: McQueen vs. Ty Majeski.

McQueen climbed into 4th midway through the stage and began pressuring Majeski for 3rd. After a clean overtake into Turn 3, Majeski returned the favor three laps later, nudging McQueen up the track to reclaim the spot. The battle simmered until lapped traffic in the closing laps broke Majeski’s rhythm. McQueen pounced and snatched 3rd at the end of the stage.

Then came Stage 3 and the defining run of McQueen’s season.

He cleared Layne Riggs quickly and focused forward. Corey Heim, the points leader, was setting a blistering pace but McQueen reeled him in lap by lap. With the regular season championship on the line, McQueen made the decisive pass with a sharp exit off Turn 2.

The final twist came on pit road.

McQueen pitted from the lead, but Heim stayed out two extra laps. Those laps proved costly. The No. 51 team, led by crew chief Alex Ward, executed a flawless stop, sending McQueen back onto the track just as Heim entered pit road. McQueen retook the lead as Heim was coming off pit road and held him off.

Heim’s late-race tangle with lapped traffic sealed it. McQueen drove away, stretching the lead to nearly two seconds at the checkered flag.

With his 7th win of the season, Logan McQueen III clinched the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Regular Season Championship setting up what promises to be a heavyweight playoff fight against Heim, Riggs, Majeski, Chandler Smith, Kyle Busch, Ross Chastain and more.

Next week the playoffs begin with the opening race of the Round of 10 at Darlington in the Sober or Slammer 200.

CHASTAIN CLAIMS PLAYOFF OPENER AS DARLINGTON DEALS McQUEEN A CRUSHING BLOW
Image
ROSS CHASTAIN DOMINATES LATE; LOGAN McQUEEN III ENDURES DISASTER-FILLED PLAYOFF OPENER

Darlington Raceway lived up to its nickname on Saturday night “The Track Too Tough To Tame” and for Logan McQueen III, it may go down as the toughest race of his young career.

The Round of 10 opener started with promise. McQueen rolled off from 12th in the No. 51 Horizon Hobby / Peak Motorsports Chevrolet and immediately showed speed, climbing into the top 10 by Lap 8. The truck handled well, the radios were calm, and the team looked poised for another steady playoff run.

But Darlington has a way of deciding things on its own terms.

With just a handful of laps left in Stage 1, chaos erupted in front of the leaders. A three-truck stack-up entering Turn 1 bounced across the groove, forcing McQueen to dodge left. He cleared the first slider, only for the No. 75 truck to snap sideways and clip the nose of the No. 51.

The contact shoved McQueen into the inside wall. The truck stayed running, but the stage was lost. He limped to pit road and restarted dead last to begin Stage 2.

What followed was one of McQueen’s grittiest drives of the season.

Avoiding two separate wrecks, threading traffic with precision, and leaning on the high groove, McQueen clawed through the field. Every lap gained felt like a rescue mission.

By the end of Stage 2, he was back in the picture crossing the line 9th and earning two valuable stage points. The No. 51 team, behind on track position but not on heart, looked poised to salvage the night.

That hope evaporated in an instant.

Late in the final stage a massive multi-truck crash erupted out of Turn 2. A sideways No. 77 ricocheted back across the track, right in front of a line of playoff drivers. McQueen had nowhere to go.

McQueen limped the truck home to a gutted 30th-place finish, his worst result since Daytona.

Ross Chastain put on a clinic, slicing through traffic and managing the final run with veteran finesse. The Niece Motorsports driver took his second win of the season and first of the playoffs, setting the tone for a chaotic championship chase.

For McQueen, the night was a disaster, but not a death sentence. With two races left in the Round of 10, the No. 51 team still sits well above the cutline, but the margin has evaporated. Every point matters from here.
