Coach Porter's Notes
They have some bulk in the middle of the defensive line and a bit of speed off the edge, nobody jumps off the page but we need to account for them all.
Linebackers aren't overly talented but they do have some speed as well.
Corners are below average, safeties are decent.
Would really like to see a big game for us on the ground.

TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT
Delaware needs stop on last play of the game to secure win over Middle Tennessee
Image

Saturday September 19, 2026 | Johnny “Red” Floyd Stadium - Murfreesboro, Tennessee | 2:00 PM

Murfreesboro, Tennessee - With seven seconds left in the game MTSU had the ball at the Delaware ten yard line after a spike stopped the clock. Quarterback Lincoln Kienholz took the snap then lobbed a pass into the back of the endzone toward 6'4” freshman wide receiver Roy Allen. Delaware's Will Kendricks, Kingsley Royal and Nyair Domnie converged on the ball and Royal made contact just as Allen got his hands on the ball. Kendricks watched as the ball fell harmlessly to the turf then pumped his fist in celebration of Delaware's 16-12 win that seemed harder than it needed to be for the Hens.

“We moved the ball well.” OC DJ Porter explained after the game. “We're happy from that standpoint. Most times 16 points isn't going to win you a game so we're grateful for Coach Rojas and his guys bailing us out in this one. We'll look at the tape and make adjustments and get ready for New Mexico State.”

Middle Tennessee got on the board first, sacking Mason Kelsay in the endzone to secure a safety midway through the first quarter.

Delaware would take the lead early in the second quarter when Skyler Sholder connected on a 22 yard field goal.

Middle Tennessee didn't waste much time with Kienholz calling his own number and scampering for a 51 yard touchdown 90 seconds later.

The Delaware offense responded, putting together a long drive and capping it with a 24 yard Kelsay touchdown pass to Donovan Lewis to put them on top 10-9 just before halftime.

Defense was the story in the second half with only field goals being put on the board after the break.

Sholder hit from 40 yards and 21 yards with MTSU's Robby lamp connecting from 51 yards out in between.

Sholder's final field goal came with 28 seconds left.

Kienholz completed three deep passes to set up the final play of the game at the Delaware ten yard line.

Delaware Head Coach Tony Sanchez, who has primarily let his coordinators speak after games, did chime in after this one. “We found a way to win and that's the most important takeaway from this one. We have things to improve but, like I said, we found a way to win.”

BLUE HEN REPORT
News and notes from Delaware's latest game
Delaware 16 – Middle Tennessee 12

Trending Up
QB Mason Kelsay | Despite the low point output Kelsay and the offense did do a decent job of moving the ball. Kelsay also did not turn the ball over.
RB Darrion Dupree | Over 100 yards for the first time this season, Dupree ground out some hard yards and averaged over five yards per carry. He dd lose the ball on a fumble, something we hope won't become a trend.
WRs Yannick Smith and Donovan Lewis | Smith and Lewis both recorded their highest number of receptions and yardage on the season against MTSU, giving Kelsay more options when he dropped back to pass.
TE Jake Bredell | Bredell saw more playing time as Riley Williams dealt with an injury. Bredell caught five passes, albeit for only 27 yards. He was a reliable security blanket for Kelsay.
Trending Down
The OL | Kelsay found himself under more pressure than you would expect from the MTSU front seven and the running lanes were less than ideal. OC DJ Porter has mentioned the potential for some adjustments to the lineup and according to sources this looks to be the week where changes are made.
Quotables
HC Tony Sanchez | “We found a way to win and that's the most important takeaway from this one. We have things to improve but, like I said, we found a way to win.”
Injury Notes
The OL | At one point Delaware had three offensive linesmen out of the game with injuries. All of them have been medically cleared and should be available for the game against New Mexico State.
TE Riley Williams | Williams missed more than half of the game with an elbow injury, he has been medically cleared.
News
Porter and Rodgers rework offensive line | “As important as cohesion and stability are for an offensive line we felt like we needed to shuffle some things around and try some different combinations to see what may help us get a little bit better play up front.” OC DJ Porter explained. They have aggressively shuffled the lineup with Sam Secrest, who had transitioned to LT over the offseason, moving back to center. Noah Rosahac will replace him at left tackle. Also, Josh Janowski replaces Amos Talalele at left guard.
Next Up
Delaware (4-0|1-0) hosts New Mexico State (1-2|0-1).

Coach Porter's Notes
It's time to assert ourselves in the running game. Last week was a bit closer to what we're looking for but we have not been able to lean on the run game consistently. We're hopeful that the personnel changes we have made up front will help.
Defensive line is decent, LE Hopper (#94) is the best of that group. Good strength and reads plays pretty well.
OLBs are pretty good. Grays (#26) is all over the field.
Defensive backs are, in general, a vulnerability. Miller (#11), the deep safety, is the exception. He is the best player on the team.
