McQUEEN SPINS MID-RACE, RALLIES TO STRONG 4TH AT PHOENIX
Image
RESILIENCE DEFINES McQUEEN’S NIGHT AFTER EARLY SETBACK IN THE DESERT

Phoenix Raceway has a way of punishing impatience while rewarding composure, and for Logan McQueen III, Saturday night’s GOVX 200 was a lesson in both.

After qualifying mid-pack, McQueen’s No. 55 Peak Motorsports Chevrolet showed steady speed early, keeping pace inside the top 15 as the field settled into long green-flag runs. Stage 1 saw McQueen collect valuable points, while Stage 2 showcased his short-run pace as he surged forward and briefly controlled the field.

The turning point came midway through the final stage.

While battling in traffic, McQueen was caught up in an incident that sent his Chevrolet spinning and forced an unscheduled pit stop under caution. Dropped deep in the running order, the setback threatened to undo what had been shaping up as a breakthrough night.

Instead, McQueen went to work.

Restart after restart, the No. 55 carved through the field with aggressive but controlled moves, capitalizing on tire falloff and late-race chaos. When a late caution hit Alex Ward and the rest of McQueen's crew did the math and determined they could stay out. With the rest of the race staying clean McQueen clawed his way back into the top five.

Up front, Aric Almirola controlled the pace, holding off Sam Mayer and Sammy Smith to secure the victory. Behind him, McQueen completed one of the drives of the race, crossing the line fourth for a major momentum boost heading into the early stretch of the schedule.

“Phoenix is about not panicking,” McQueen said post-race. “We had a moment that could’ve ruined our night, but the car stayed good and the team kept me focused. That’s the kind of run that builds confidence.”

PENALTIES, ANGER, AND RESET: McQUEEN SALVAGES 21ST AFTER BLACK FLAGS AT LAS VEGAS
Image
McQUEEN RECOVERES FROM MAJOR SETBACK TO SALVAGE 21ST

Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a place that exposes every weakness, mental, mechanical, and procedural, and for Logan McQueen III, Saturday’s running of The LiUNA! became a test of composure rather than outright pace.

McQueen’s No. 55 Peak Motorsports Chevrolet showed solid speed throughout the afternoon, keeping the team inside the top 20 through the opening stages as long green-flag runs defined the race. Stage 1 passed cleanly with McQueen finishing 2nd. Stage 2 saw McQueen battle with Almirola and Allgaier before moving into first and pulling away in the closing laps.

McQueen stayed in the top three for the first half of the final stage, continuing to swap spots with Almirola and Allgaier.

Then came the unraveling.

Midway through the final stage, McQueen was hit with a black flag for pit road speeding, a costly mistake that immediately forced a stop-and-go penalty. Still frustrated and rushing to recover lost track position, McQueen was flagged again, resulting in a second stop-and-go penalty that dropped the No. 55 deep in the running order.

The radio traffic was heated. McQueen was livid, at the situation, at the mistakes, and most of all, at himself.

After serving both penalties, McQueen rejoined the race near the back of the field, staring down what looked like an inevitable lost night.

Then the caution flew.

With a few laps to reset mentally, McQueen leaned heavily on his support system, crew chief Alex Ward on the pit box and spotter Rick O’Shea overhead, and refocused on damage control. From there, the No. 55 began clawing forward methodically, taking advantage of tire falloff and capitalizing on mistakes ahead.

Restart by restart, McQueen worked traffic with renewed patience, refusing to force moves that could compound the damage. When the checkered flag waved, he had battled back to a hard-earned 21st-place finish, a result that reflected resilience more than raw performance.

McQueen was charging hard toward a top 20, with Daniel Dye and Ryan Sieg both within striking distance when an incident at the back of the field forced a green, white, checkered finish.

Up front, Justin Allgaier dominated the night, controlling the race and leading a JR Motorsports 1–2 finish ahead of Connor Zilisch and Sam Mayer.

For McQueen, the numbers told only part of the story.

“This one’s on me,” McQueen admitted post-race. “I put us in a hole, plain and simple. Alex and Rick were unbelievable tonight, they kept me from letting one mistake turn into ten. I was angry, but they calmed me down and got me back in race mode. We salvaged something, and that matters over a long season. Rick stays so calm, everything just bounces off him.”

Crew chief Alex Ward echoed that sentiment, emphasizing growth over frustration.

“Mistakes happen, especially on pit road here,” Ward said. “What I’m proud of is how Logan reset. A lot of drivers let that spiral. He didn’t. He refocused, listened, and brought the car home the right way. That’s maturity.”

Alex Ward (Crew Chief): “We made mistakes tonight, that’s on all of us. What matters is Logan didn’t let it spiral. He reset, trusted the process, and brought the car home. Over a long season, those nights matter more than people realize.”
Logan McQueen III: “I was hard on myself, but I should be. Still, I’ve got the best crew chief and spotter out there. Alex and Rick kept me calm when I wasn’t. That finish belongs to them just as much as me.”

Considering the inconsistency we have started the season with we will take it. Need a nice stretch of races here to build some momentum before we get into the second half of the schedule.
