Buffalo Bills at New England Patriots Preview
DynastySports.com

New England (12-2) avoided near disaster last week against Cincinnati, managing to score 29 points in the final nine minutes of the game to walk away with a ten-point win. The Patriots now host Buffalo (6-8) and if they clinch the top seed, New England will spend the rest of its season within the comforts of Gillette Stadium.

The Patriots are headed towards another first-round bye it seems like. New England would need to drop all of their remaining games with Los Angeles Chargers and Cleveland winning out in order for New England to not lock up a top two seed. New England can lock up the top seed with a win today or a Cleveland loss. The only thing standing in there way is a Buffalo team that aren't quite out of the playoff race.

Winners of two straight, the Bills can make the playoffs by winning out and by everyone in front of them -- Houston, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Baltimore, Indianapolis and Pittsburgh -- losing out. If more than one of those teams win a single game in the last two weeks, Buffalo is out. If Buffalo loses on Sunday, they are out.

Buffalo will be hoping for a better result than their week four game against New England. Josh Allen threw for 306 yards but failed to reach the endzone in the Patriots 42-9 win over the Bills. It was another four-touchdown performance from Tom Brady who leads the league with 45 touchdowns and 4,818 yards. Brady is on pace to break Peyton Manning's single season record for most passing yards, needing 659 yards in the last two games to do so.

Brady, Patriots overcome slow start to finish Bills, clinch first-round bye
The New England Patriots clinching a first round bye. The Buffalo Bills missing the playoffs.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Buffalo's three-point lead was short lived as New England would go on to score 21 unanswered points before completing their 35-6 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

New England relied on its passing game to get to the goal-line and then handed the ball off to Sony Michel and Corey Grant who each had touchdown runs and catches of less than two yards during New England's run. Tom Brady added two more touchdowns in the fourth, including one to rookie N'Keal Harry to give the rookie four touchdowns in his first two games.

Brady now sits with 48 touchdowns on the season, one shy of his career record. The veteran also went over 5,000 yards on the season and is currently at 5,220 with 257 yards short of the single season record.

Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots Preview
DynastySports.com

To no one's surprise, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has remained quiet on the notion of him not playing his starters in the regular season finale against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. A game that has little meaning for the Patriots but plenty meaning for the Dolphins.

With a loss, Miami (2-13) will secure the top pick of the draft, where many expect them to draft Tua Tagavaloila of Alabama. The team was reported to be tanking this season in an effort to land the Alabama quarterback and are now just four quarters away from their season being a success.

New England (13-2) on the other hand have locked up the top seed in the AFC which comes with a first-round bye and home field advantage throughout. There are some statistical stakes for New England, however. Tom Brady needs 257 yards to match Peyton Manning's record for most passing yards in a single season. His lowest total on the season was 202 yards with his second lowest being 273 so it stands to reason that if Brady plays this game out, he has a legitimate shot at the record. But at what cost?

There's also the question of Jarrett Stidham, the rookie quarterback that has not played this season with Brady having played all 1,106 snaps this year. It would be an impressive feat for Brady to not only get the record, surpass 50 touchdowns (he needs two more) and play every single snap at 42 years old.

Another player to watch is rookie running back Damien Harris. The third-round pick has just ten carries on the season and with Sony Michel already over the 1,000-yard mark, Harris figures to get some burn.

Defensively, Jamie Collins has the potential to finish the season with more than 100 tackles in back to back seasons after recording just 41 tackles in 2017. Collins return to the Patriots has been a undoubted success given his low price tag.

Brady gets record, Patriots secure 14th win of the season in blowout of Dolphins
In just three quarters, Tom Brady accomplished all he needed to in the regular-season finale by seizing another prestigious record and home-field advantage in the playoffs.

He knows his next time out probably won't be so easy.

Brady set the NFL single-season record for yards passing and threw two touchdowns as New England won its fourteenth game of the season with a 50-13 victory over Miami on Sunday.

"This was a good game today," Brady said. "We needed this win. We needed to improve on some things. The coaches challenged us in a couple of areas and I think we responded to those challenges."

The Patriots (14-2) were nearly perfect in building a 36-7 lead before coach Bill Belichick gave Brady and some other regulars the rest of the third quarter off to rest for the first playoff game two weeks from now in Foxborough.

Brady threw touchdown passes to Josh Gordon and James White before his exit. Gordon, who had arguably his best game of the season with 9 catches for 135 yards, was the recipient of the record breaking pass that put Brady over the record. New England did not stop the game to congratulate Brady but instead finished it off with a touchdown run by Corey Grant who was sure to find Brady after the touchdown and give him the ball.

That ended Brady's day having completed 33 of 41 passes for 304 yards. He finished the season with 5,524 yards and 50 touchdown passes.

Patriots fans also got a glimpse at rookie quarterback Jarrett Stidham. His first play was an eight-yard scramble and his first pass was intercepted. He missed his next five passes before completing his last three, including a touchdown to Jonnu Smith.

Smith finished the game 4 of 9 for 46 yards.
