Racing Louisville FC Soar Under Patão as Summer Transfer Window Opens.
Louisville, KY — At the midway point of the NWSL season, Racing Louisville FC are making noise—and not just on the pitch.
Under the sharp leadership of head coach Filipa Patão, the club sits in 4th place with a 6-7-2 record (25 points). Known for her tactical sophistication and emphasis on technical midfield play, Patão has molded a team that is increasingly tough to break down and dangerous in transition.
The star of the moment? Ella Palis. The 26-year-old French midfielder is having a breakout campaign, earning NWSL Player of the Month honors for May. Palis has notched 10 goals, placing her 3rd in the league in scoring—a staggering feat for a central midfielder who joined the team with more questions than expectations.
"Ella's been nothing short of a revelation," Patão told reporters last week. "She’s our engine, our compass, and she’s only getting better."
But as July 1 marks the official opening of the summer transfer window, Racing Louisville are making moves behind the scenes. The club confirmed the sale of goalkeeper Olivia Sekany to Paris FC for $35,000, a deal sources say had been in the works for weeks.
Additionally, Louisville are leveraging their youth academy pipeline. Promising Moroccan left back Najat Aziz has been loaned to Liverpool FC Women on a two-year deal, while center back Christine Tremblay—a towering Louisville' native—has been loaned to the Houston Dash for two years in search of consistent minutes.
Meanwhile, whispers of Kosovare Asllani’s potential retirement at season’s end have only added to the intrigue surrounding the squad’s future. The 35-year-old Swedish icon has not made a formal announcement, but in a recent interview with DS.net, Asllani hinted, “I’m at peace with my career. Whether this is the final chapter, I’ll decide soon.”
That uncertainty, combined with Racing Louisville’s top-four standing and an open transfer window, has many wondering: Does Patão have her eyes set on another marquee signing?
With the team just a few points off the top of the table and the locker room buzzing with confidence, the answer remains uncertain.
One thing’s clear—Louisville’s summer is just heating up.
