Racing Louisville FC Make First Splash of Transfer Window with Montpellier Midfielder Palis.
Racing Louisville FC have wasted no time making waves in the transfer market, announcing their first signing of the window with the acquisition of 25-year-old central midfielder Ella Palis from French Première Ligue club Montpellier.
The deal, finalized for $38,000 with a $4,000 weekly wage, marks an early and strategic move by head coach Filipa Patão, who is looking to bolster her squad’s defensive versatility following the transfer of veteran center back Arin Wright to Tottenham.
“She’s the kind of player who does the dirty work and makes everyone around her better,” said Patão. “Her positioning, her calm under pressure, and her leadership will be invaluable.”
Though naturally a central midfielder, Patão has confirmed plans to rotate Palis between CM and CB this season, taking full advantage of her defensive acumen and tactical discipline. With Wright’s departure and the club’s push to reinforce its spine, Palis’s adaptability will give Racing crucial flexibility as they look to build on their breakout campaign.
Palis becomes the latest piece in what is shaping up to be a carefully constructed roster overhaul in Louisville. With more moves likely on the horizon and a transfer budget exceeding $500,000, Patão and Racing are sending a clear message: they intend not just to compete, but to contend.
Expect more signings in the coming weeks as Racing Louisville FC continues its calculated climb toward NWSL supremacy.

Racing Louisville FC Land Star Defender Sophia Kleinherne in Major Transfer Splash.
In a bold and commanding move, Racing Louisville FC have secured the signature of German international center back Sophia Kleinherne for $185,000 and a $5,300 weekly wage, making her the club’s most high-profile signing under head coach Filipa Patão.
Kleinherne, 24, arrives from the Frauen-Bundesliga with a sterling reputation as one of Europe’s most dependable and technically gifted defenders. Known for her clean tackles, precise passing from the back, and aerial dominance, Kleinherne is expected to immediately step into a leadership role in the Louisville backline. Her arrival marks a new chapter in Racing’s evolution—one that signals not only ambition, but a clear desire to get back into the Playoffs & contend for the NWSL championship now.
“She’s not just a defensive anchor—she’s a statement,” said Patão. “Bringing in someone of Sophia’s caliber shows the direction we’re going. We want to win, and we want to build something long-term around leaders like her.”
Her signing comes as part of a calculated reshuffling of the squad that has already seen veteran Arin Wright transferred out and French midfielder Ella Palis brought in from Montpellier. Together, Kleinherne and Palis are set to form a new-look defensive spine that could redefine Racing’s identity heading into the season.
The $185K fee is one of the largest in club history, but insiders believe it’s money well spent. Patão, backed by an increased transfer budget for 2025, was reportedly adamant that Kleinherne was the marquee addition Racing needed to stabilize the back and elevate the entire squad.
With the German international now in the fold, Racing Louisville FC's defensive identity just got that much better.

for reference, Palis' FC 25 overall is 75 & Kleinherne's is 82. Kleinherne is now the highest rated on my roster. DeMelo & Flint are both 81's. Asllani is a 78.

On paper for sure. I'm not sure how ratings are around the world, but adding an 82 CB to our team feels pretty major competing in the NWSL. There's definitely some 90+ rated in the UK & Spain, but I'll take what I can get for now

It's like we just signed Tony Allen in NBA terms.

Oh we going for broke in Year 2!!!

I didn't expect to perform as well as we did in season 1 so we have to capitalize on that success! Losing Wright sucks but I'm excited with the transfers we got. There was a ton of missed transfers along the way, but the two we secured were the two we needed for season 2
That being said, we need a lil run together to shake off the rust.. Let's compete in the preseason Beats Cup.

Two goal shutout is huge to start things off
The team looked great in that first match. I'm looking forward to starting the NWSL season to see where we rank
