if we can get Marshall passing like he did against Colorado and a better defense we got a shot at making some noise.

Kansas DC Chris Polizzi takes Utah State head coaching position
Polizzi parlays top ten defensive performance into head job

In a significant development for Kansas football, defensive coordinator Chris Polizzi has been named the new head coach at Utah State University. Polizzi replaces Jim Mora, who finished his two-year tenure with a disappointing 8-16 record. The move comes as Kansas prepares for their upcoming College Football Playoff game, adding a new challenge for head coach Jordan McAlary and his staff.

Polizzi’s defensive unit was a key factor in Kansas’ successful season, ranking among the nation’s best in multiple statistical categories. The Jayhawks allowed the 7th least total yards in the nation, surrendering just 3,764 yards over the course of the season. Their rush defense was particularly dominant, giving up only 835 rushing yards, the 2nd least in the nation. Kansas also allowed 280 points, tying for 21st least nationally, and excelled in creating pressure and turnovers. Despite dealing with numerous injuries in the front seven, the Jayhawks recorded 38 sacks, tied for 14th most in the nation. Their ball-hawking secondary was a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks, finishing 2nd in the nation with 23 interceptions.

“Chris has been an integral part of our success this year,” said McAlary. “He’s a fantastic coach, and I have no doubt he’ll do great things at Utah State. That said, losing him at this stage is a big hurdle for us as we prepare for the playoff. We’re going to miss his leadership, but we’re also excited for his next chapter.”

In Polizzi’s absence, assistant coach Joe Bolden will assume the role of interim defensive coordinator and take over play-calling duties. Bolden, who has been with the program for the past two seasons, is well-regarded within the Kansas coaching staff and will look to maintain the high standard set by Polizzi.

Utah State’s decision to bring in Polizzi signals a commitment to turning around their program. Known for his ability to maximize talent and adapt to injuries, Polizzi’s leadership and defensive expertise could provide the Aggies with the stability they need to return to competitiveness in the Mountain West Conference.

“I’m incredibly grateful to Coach McAlary, the players, and the Kansas community for an unforgettable experience,” said Polizzi in a statement. “While it’s tough to leave, the opportunity to lead a program like Utah State is a dream come true. I’m looking forward to getting to work and building something special in Logan.”

As Kansas moves forward, the challenge of balancing playoff preparations with staff adjustments looms large. For Polizzi, the transition marks a new beginning and an opportunity to put his stamp on a program eager for success.
