Lawrence, Kansas -
The Kansas Jayhawks put together a statement performance to close out their regular season, routing the Oklahoma State Cowboys 49-10 on Saturday. The victory secured Kansas a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game and gave the program its 11th win of the season, the second-most in school history behind the historic 2007 team.

Kansas imposed its will on the ground, racking up a staggering 321 rushing yards. Johnny Thompson Jr., Avery Muamba, and Isaiah Marshall each eclipsed the 100-yard mark, with all three players finding the end zone. Marshall added to his dual-threat reputation, scoring on a 3-yard run while also showcasing his arm by throwing for 174 yards and four touchdowns.

“Our offensive line really set the tone,” said head coach Jordan McAlary. “When you can dominate up front like that, it opens everything up.”

Despite two interceptions, Marshall’s poise and playmaking ability shone throughout the contest. He connected with six different receivers, including Keaton Kubecka, who led the team with 74 yards on four catches. Kubecka’s highlight came on a 43-yard catch-and-run that set up a critical score in the second half.

The Jayhawks’ defense turned the game into a nightmare for Oklahoma State quarterback Zane Flores. Kansas sacked Flores eight times, with defensive end Tony Terry leading the charge. Terry’s dominant performance included 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a recovery that set up a short field for the offense. The relentless pressure left Flores struggling to find any rhythm, as he completed just 16 of 36 passes for 189 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

Damani Maxson got the Jayhawks rolling early, intercepting Flores on the Cowboys' second offensive play. From there, the Kansas defense tightened the screws, allowing a total of -26 rushing yards and holding Oklahoma State’s top back, Ramon Angulo, to just 10 yards.

“Our guys up front were relentless,” said McAlary. “We knew if we could stop the run and get after the quarterback, we’d be in good shape.”

Kansas set the tone early with a five-yard touchdown pass from Marshall to Thompson Jr. on their opening drive. The Jayhawks never looked back, adding scores from Rashard Slay, Damien Keo, and more as the offense clicked on all cylinders.

In the fourth quarter, Kansas sealed the game with touchdowns from Thompson Jr. and Kubecka, capping off a dominant showing in front of a jubilant home crowd.

With the win, Kansas improves to 11-1 on the season, setting up a clash in the Big 12 Championship Game. The team has its sights set on a potential berth in the College Football Playoff, an opportunity that seemed unimaginable just a few years ago.

“This group has worked so hard, and we’re not done yet,” McAlary said. “We’ll enjoy this one for now, but tomorrow, it’s back to work.”

For the Jayhawks, the dream season rolls on—and the best may be yet to come.

Jayhawk Talk

Each week following their game Kansas Head Coach Jordan McAlary makes an appearance on KLWN to talk about the game, we'll include a few key points in this article.

"I’m just so proud of this team. Winning 11 games is a remarkable accomplishment. It’s only the second time in program history we’ve reached that mark, and to be in the same conversation as that 2007 team is an incredible honor. But what makes it even more special is that we’ve got more football to play. This group isn’t done yet."

"Our offensive line deserves so much credit. Those guys have been the heartbeat of our team all season long. Against Oklahoma State, they absolutely dominated. To run for over 300 yards in a game at this level is a testament to their toughness, discipline, and execution. Johnny Thompson Jr., Avery Muamba, and Isaiah Marshall will get the headlines, but none of that happens without the guys up front."

"Isaiah Marshall continues to prove why he’s one of the best leaders we’ve had here. He ran for over 100 yards, threw for four touchdowns, and showed the kind of grit and resilience that this program is built on. He made a couple of mistakes with the interceptions, but I love the way he bounced back and kept attacking."

"Our defense was relentless. Eight sacks, holding Oklahoma State to negative rushing yards—just incredible. Tony Terry was a monster out there, and Damani Maxson’s interception set the tone right away. It’s not just about the effort; it’s about the preparation these guys put in every week. They’ve earned everything coming their way."

"When I look at this team, I see a group that genuinely loves playing for each other. They’re unselfish, they work hard, and they’ve bought into everything we’ve asked them to do. That’s why we’re in this position. Eleven wins don’t just happen; they’re the result of countless hours of work and belief."

"We’ve got a chance to do something truly special here. We’re going to enjoy this moment, but we know there’s a lot more at stake. This team has earned the right to dream big, and we’re ready to keep chasing those dreams."

Recruiting Update

Kansas has secured two more commitments, bringing their total to four players.

Four star CB Clay Ealy of Hopkinsville, Kentucky chose Kansas over Nebraska and Florida.

Ruston, Lousiana's Shakir Penn excels at run blocking. The 6'1” 296 pounder chose Kansas over Louisiana and Louisiana Tech. Coach McAlary's connections in Louisiana were key in securing Penn's commitment.

“We're excited with the class we've assembled so far.” McAlary said. “We know this is going to be a smaller class for us so we're focused on getting the guys we really want here. Quality over quantity.”
