Mike Harrison Joins Texas A&M as Defensive Coordinator for 2030 season

Image
College Station, TX — Texas A&M has announced the hiring of Mike Harrison as its new defensive coordinator, a marquee addition to new Head Coach Tim Burch's staff. Harrison, who helped Tulsa win the 2029 National Championship, brings a track record of defensive excellence and championship success to the Aggies.

Harrison arrives in College Station following a storied tenure at Tulsa, where he guided the Golden Hurricane to back-to-back American Athletic Conference titles in 2028 and 2029. His defenses were consistently ranked among the nation’s elite, producing multiple national defensive award winners and earning a reputation as one of the toughest units in college football. Harrison capped his time at Tulsa with a 51-30 career record, a 4-2 mark against rivals, a 4-2 bowl record, and a 7-6 record against Top 25 teams.

"Joining Texas A&M is an incredible opportunity," said Harrison. "The tradition here is unmatched, and I’m excited to work with Coach Burch to build something special. Defense has always been my passion, and I’m ready to bring that same energy and focus to the Aggies."

Harrison’s move to Texas A&M follows a challenging 2029 season for the Aggies, who finished 5-7. The program is now under the leadership of Tim Burch, who takes over with a career record of 33-42. While Burch faces the task of turning around a struggling team, Harrison’s arrival signals a commitment to building a dominant defense that can compete in the grueling SEC.

"Mike Harrison is one of the best defensive minds in the game," said Burch. "What he accomplished at Tulsa is remarkable, and his experience winning at the highest level is exactly what we need as we rebuild this program. I have no doubt his leadership will make an immediate impact on our players and our culture."

The Aggies will lean on Harrison’s championship pedigree as they aim to regain their footing in the SEC. Known for his meticulous preparation, innovative schemes, and ability to develop players, Harrison is expected to transform Texas A&M’s defense into a unit capable of competing with the best teams in the country.

As the Aggies gear up for the 2030 season, fans are optimistic that the combination of Burch’s fresh vision and Harrison’s defensive prowess will usher in a new era of success in College Station. With Harrison now on board, Texas A&M’s defense has a proven leader ready to rise to the challenge.

Ah tough way to go out. But, congratulations to Olvera and Waddell on the big accolades. I love the move to Texas A&M. The competition is about to get really fierce.
