Muamba's big game leads Blue to win in Spring Game
Coaching staff closer to naming starters at key positions

Avery Muamba scored a total of three touchdowns for the blue team as they topped the white squad by a score of 31-21 in the annual Kansas spring game.

Muamba caught a touchdown pass from Brad Matlock and ran for two more touchdowns in the win.

Matlock connected on 12 of 18 pass attempts for 189 yards and two touchdowns for blue, the second passing touchdown coming on a deep ball to tight end Trey'Dez Green.

For the white team Isaiah Marshall threw a touchdown pass to Rashard Slay while also adding a rushing touchdown. Johnny Thompson Jr provided the other score for white.

Defensively the coaching staff tried a number of different combinations, hoping to find the right formula.

Jordan McAlary on the Kansas Spring Game:

“I thought both quarterbacks really showed what they bring to the table today. Isaiah [Marshall] made some big-time throws and used his legs to extend plays, and Brad [Matlock] was incredibly sharp in the pocket, especially with his accuracy down the field. It’s a great problem to have when you’ve got two guys pushing each other like that. On the ground, Avery Muamba was the spark. He took over the game at times, and it’s exciting to see his growth—he’s become a real difference-maker for us.

Defensively, what stood out to me was our depth. We rotated a lot of different personnel groups, and there wasn’t much of a drop-off. Guys were stepping up and making plays all across the board, which is exactly what you want to see in a game like this. It gives us confidence that we can be versatile and adapt when we need to.”

I’d love to get a spot in the CC game, gravy beyond that.

Schedule is pretty tough for sure.

Id like to see Marshall claim the starting spot, cut down the turnovers and be a more effective runner. Also being able to push the ball deep consistently would be good. Matlock is right there and has better accuracy ratings, especially deep. I need to get some more reps with both of them so we’re likely looking at a rotation to start the season. Will probably be looking to get multiple receivers reps too so we can see if we have any gems there.
