Spurs late rally not enough, Thunder roll, 109-100
October 30, 2024 -- Paycom Center
OKLAHOMA CITY -- For a few minutes after tip-off, it looked as if the San Antonio Spurs would be en route to their first win, taking an early lead. It was short lived, however, as the Oklahoma City Thunder took a 28-23 lead after one quarter of play and fended off every potential lead-changing rally the Spurs threw their way – as the Thunder held on for a 109-100 win for their second win of the year.
For the Spurs, it was Keldon Johnson who led the way with 24 points in 21 minutes of play, while Victor Wembanyama added 19 pints, eight boards, and four blocks. Devin Vassell (5/15 FG, 0/7 3PT) and Harrison Barnes (4/10 FG, 3/6 3PT) added 12 apiece, and Chris Paul scored 10 points and dished out six assists.
San Antonio fought back in the fourth, but could never pull close enough to tie the game, though they did get in striking distance of two points multiple times.
For OKC, Shai Alexander-Gilgeous dropped 30 points on 10-of-29 shooting with six boards and six assists. Jalen Williams chipped in with 16 points and Chet Holmgren added 12 to go along with eight rebounds. Lu Dort and Aaron Wiggins scored 11 each.
Up Next -- San Antonio visits the overachieving Utah Jazz (3-1) tomorrow night for a back-to-back game on Halloween.

Kept it close to a very good (but clearly underperforming) OKC team. Hopefully you sneak past Utah next game

Halloween thriller ends in Spurs first win, hold off Jazz, 106-104
October 31, 2024 -- Delta Center
SALT LAKE CITY -- In a game with six lead changes, and none larger than eight points, the Utah fans were handed a thrilling nail-biter that came down to the final seconds and full court heave that nearly gave the home crowd a memory to cherish forever – however, it was the Spurs who prevailed, 106-104, on Halloween night for their first win.
Victor Wembanyama was the main catalyst for San Antonio, scoring 19 points, including 3-of-4 free throws in the final minute to ice the game – and swatted four shots. Tying for 18 points each was a struggling Devin Vassell (6-16 FG, 2-9 3PT, 4-6 FT) and Keldon Johnson (7-10 FG, 3-4 3PT, 1-1 FT) off the bench. Johnson is quickly becoming an early candidate for Sixth Man of the Year with his recent scoring outbursts. Chris Paul had his best scoring night of the season with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting and dished four assists.
Utah opened the third quarter on a 12-2 run and looked to be in prime position to secure another win and went on to score 61 points in the second half, but the Spurs fought off the rally to recapture the lead and ultimately hang on for the win.
"We got our first win tonight because we finally played a complete game," said coach Gregg Popovich.
Up Next -- After a day off, San Antonio hosts a shorthanded Minnesota Timberwolves (3-2) team who will be without their newest addition Julius Randle (leg, 6-8 weeks) on November 2nd.
