Buffalo Heads Into Last Major Recruiting Weekend With Hope
Brian Dohn -- 247 Sports Buffalo Insider
At the beginning of the season, this upcoming week was supposed to be one of the biggest weekends for Buffalo and the MAC. Buffalo and Akron were poised to have big seasons after meeting last year in the MAC Championship. However, Buffalo has fallen short on their end of the deal. The Bulls sit at 2-4 in conference play and 3-7 on the season. It was a disappointment after the high expectations they came into the season with. However, Buffalo still has an enormous upside to recruiting this weekend if they can pull off an upset against the current and undefeated conference leaders in the last game at UB Stadium for the season.
Visiting this week will be several 3-star recruits: Josh Iosivas [CB #51], Eric Emanuel [QB #88], and Tyree Grubbs [C #55]. These recruits all have Buffalo listed as their top school at the moment and this week should allow the Bulls to seal the deal.
This also comes off the disappointment of losing out on two other recruits. Timote Seumalo [C #97] committed to Bowling Green this past week and Charles Sabri [RG #106] has left Buffalo out of his top 3 as he narrowed his list of schools.
While the loss of Seumalo can be mitigated by Buffalo hopefully picking up a commitment from Grubbs this week, Buffalo does not have any other Right Guards who have committed or are on the recruiting board currently. Look for this to be a position they try to fill during the transfer portal in the off-season.
Look for Buffalo to try to solidify their ranking as one of the top classes in the MAC with a hard push on several of their interested recruits this week, especially for top target Josh Iosivas.

Buffalo Posts No Fly Zone Against Zips
Last year Akron handed the only two MAC losses that Buffalo suffered. The last was a heartbreaker for the Bulls as they were run over in the MAC Championship. Despite having a disappointing season the Bulls took to the field looking for revenge.
Revenge is what ended up being served by the Bulls after nullifying the pass offense of Akron by forcing 4 interceptions, two by Marquis Cooper. The Bulls dominated in a 21-7 win at UB Stadium in their final home game of the season.
This game was also the first game that Gunnar Gray has started for the Bulls this season. After throwing 4 interceptions in the previous game, the decision was made to start Gray over previous starting quarterback Jack Shields. Gray still struggled throwing 2 interceptions but ended the day 19-32, with 206 yards and a touchdown as well.
The real star of the show was the defense. The Bulls forced 4 turnovers, all interceptions, and kept a high scoring Akron offense to just 7 points. The defensive line was able to stay in the face of Ben Finley all game and kept him off balance.
“It just goes to show that this team is about pride. They could have given up on the season but they put in the work and showed that this team still has something to show this conference before the season is over,” Defensive Coordinator Mike Harrison said in the post game press conference.
Buffalo will head on the road to Kent State to close out what has been a disappointing season after the expectations coming into the season.
