Each week in the days following Kent State's game I will spend a few moments chatting with members of the coaching staff. I'll share some key points in this column.

This morning I spoke with offensive coordinator Jordan McAlary following Kent State's loss at Penn State.

Another tough opponent on the road in Penn State, what are some positives you're taking from the game?
Yeah I mean it wasn't the result we were hoping for obviously but we started poorly and definitely a lot of teams it that situation just throw in the towel and that's when you see the 60 to mothing scores and whatnot. So we were proud that we kept fighting up to the end of the game.

What are some of the things you're looking at on tape and hoping to make some adjustments to?
These past two weeks we have had a lot of opponents in the backfield on passing plays so we're going to need to look at that issue for sure. Whether it's something we need to address schematically or with personnel or if it's a technique issue we need to get that cleaned up. We can't have the QB absorbing so many hits.

Anything else?
Drops. Got to figure those out. Way too many.

Can you give us a player of the week?
Tommy for sure. We had a good number of drops in key situations early and, you know, you want to see your QB take command but the way he did it with those guys it was all positive and they responded. He stood in a took some hits and scored twice for us so ended up being a good game all around for him.

Back home and opening up conference play Saturday. Anything different there?
Just got to get it done in conference at home.
