MADISON, Wis. (AP) — South Alabama defensive coordinator Jerome Singleton has accepted a job offer at Wisconsin as the Badgers’ new defensive coordinator.
Singleton is not expected to coach in the Jaguars' bowl game against Ohio University.
Wisconsin coach Charles Huff announced the hire on Thursday. Singleton replaces Mike Tressell who was let go along with head coach Mike Locksley and the rest of his staff following Locksley's one-year tenure as the Badgers head coach.
“I’m thankful to have the opportunity to add Jerome to our staff,” Wisconsin coach Charles Huff said Thursday in a statement announcing the hire. “Jerome has phenomenal experience from across the college football, the National Football League and I’m excited for the schematic, recruiting and coaching talents he’ll bring to our defensive staff.”
Singleton spent the past two years in Mobile as the Jaguars' defensive coordinator, leading the Sun Belt's top ranked scoring defense, total defense and rushing defense. The Badgers defense finished dead last in the Big Ten in scoring defense and rushing defense.
Prior to his time with South Alabama, Singleton had a successful tenure as head coach of Inglewood High School after being an assistant with the Los Angeles Rams, the University of Alabama and the University of California - Berkeley.
