Boulder, Colorado -
In a thrilling Big 12 showdown, No. 20 Kansas rallied in the second half to defeat No. 15 Colorado in Boulder, 35-21. The Jayhawks' second-half resurgence was fueled by quarterback Isaiah Marshall, who entered the game after halftime and sparked the offense to a dominant finish.

Kansas struck first with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Damien Keo to Austin Dogins, but Colorado surged back in the second quarter. Buffaloes quarterback Ryan Staub connected on two long touchdown passes to Josh DeCicco, including a 77-yarder, helping Colorado take a 21-14 lead into halftime.

Second Half: Enter Isaiah Marshall. Taking over at quarterback, the junior provided a spark, leading the Jayhawks to three second-half touchdowns. His 12-yard rushing score in the third quarter tied the game, and a late 29-yard touchdown strike to Damien Keo in the fourth quarter sealed the victory.

Kansas leaned on their "three-headed monster" in the backfield with Isaiah Marshall running for 90 yards and a score while Avery Muamba tallied 88 rushing yards on 14 carries, consistently keeping the Colorado defense on its heels. Johnny Thompson Jr pounded out 89 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, adding a crucial element of physicality. Together, the trio spearheaded a Kansas rushing attack that amassed 288 yards, overwhelming the Buffaloes' defensive front.

The Kansas defense clamped down in the second half, shutting out Colorado and allowing only 249 total yards on the day. Donte Cantrell led the charge with seven tackles, while Damani Maxson contributed five stops and a critical interception.

Marshall's entrance in the second half completely shifted the momentum. His late fourth-quarter touchdown pass to Keo capped off a balanced and composed offensive performance, putting the game out of reach and silencing the Buffaloes' home crowd.

With this win, Kansas moves to 5-1 on the season and continues to cement their position as a Big 12 contender. Colorado, now 3-2, will need to regroup quickly after failing to score in the second half.

Kansas fans have plenty to be excited about, as the Jayhawks' combination of Marshall's dynamic play and their dominant ground game looks poised to carry them through the Big 12 gauntlet.

Jayhawk Talk

Each week following their game Kansas Head Coach Jordan McAlary makes an appearance on KLWN to talk about the game, we'll include a few key points in this article.

On the Quarterback Situation:
"We’re in a fortunate position to have two quarterbacks who can really lead this team, Isaiah [Marshall] came in and gave us a spark in the second half, but Brad [Matlock] has also shown he can manage the game and make plays when we need him. They each bring something unique to the position. Isaiah’s dynamic playmaking ability and Brad’s steadiness both offer tremendous value. We’re going to continue evaluating and putting the team in the best position to win. Having both of them gives us a lot of confidence moving forward."

On the Team’s Second-Half Performance:
"I couldn’t be prouder of how our guys responded after halftime," McAlary said. "We made some adjustments, and the team just executed. The defense locked down, the offense found its rhythm, and we showed the resilience you need to win tough games like this."

On the Three-Headed Rushing Attack:
"Our running game was incredible, Isaiah [Marshall], Johnny [Thompson Jr.], and Avery [Muamba] were all outstanding. They each bring a different style to the field, and when they’re clicking like that, it’s really tough for defenses to stop. Credit to our offensive line, too—they set the tone up front and made it possible."

On the Importance of the Win:
"Every win in this conference is hard-fought, and beating a quality team like Colorado on the road is huge for us. We still have areas to improve, but this was a big step in the right direction. I’m proud of the way the team competed and finished strong."

Provo, Utah -
The Kansas Jayhawks delivered a statement performance on October 16, 2027, dismantling BYU 48-10 in front of a hostile Provo crowd. The victory was defined by a suffocating defensive effort and a relentless ground game that overwhelmed the Cougars from start to finish.

Kansas’ defense set the tone early, forcing a fumble on BYU’s third offensive play when Greydon Grimes strip-sacked sophomore quarterback Ben Bolin. Seth Sahara recovered the loose ball deep in BYU territory, and three plays later, Avery Muamba punched it in for the Jayhawks' opening score.

The Jayhawks’ pass rush terrorized Bolin all game, forcing five interceptions while holding BYU to a staggering -8 rushing yards on 19 attempts. Kansas capitalized on the Cougars’ six total turnovers, repeatedly setting up short fields for their offense.

“The defensive line was incredible today,” Kansas head coach Jordan McAlary said postgame. “The way they pressured the quarterback and dominated up front gave us the opportunity to control the game on both sides of the ball.”

On offense, Kansas relied on its depth to overcome an early setback. Starting quarterback Isaiah Marshall looked sharp before leaving the game with an injury late in the first quarter. Backup Brad Matlock entered and kept the offense rolling, throwing for 111 yards and two touchdown passes, including a 24-yarder to Damien Keo in the second quarter.

Kansas leaned heavily on its running game, amassing 272 yards on 46 carries. Johnny Thompson Jr. led the way with 103 yards and two touchdowns, while Muamba added 102 yards and a score on 18 carries. Muamba also contributed in the passing game with four catches for six yards and another touchdown. Keo added three receptions for 52 yards and a score, providing a spark in the air attack.

Despite the personnel change at quarterback, the Jayhawks maintained efficiency, attempting just 19 passes while controlling the clock and tempo. “When you’re running the ball like we were today, it makes everything easier,” said Matlock. “Credit to our offensive line and the backs for making it happen.”

BYU’s lone bright spots came in the form of a 31-yard field goal by Matthias Dunn in the first quarter and a late second-quarter touchdown pass from Bolin to Jordan Ogundeji. However, the Cougars’ inability to establish a rhythm offensively spelled their doom.

Kansas improved to 6-1 (3-1 Big 12) with the win, firmly cementing themselves in the conference title conversation. BYU fell to 2-4 (1-2 Big 12) as they continue to search for answers amid a challenging season.

The Jayhawks will look to build on their momentum as they return to Lawrence next week. Meanwhile, BYU faces an uphill battle to regain confidence in their young quarterback and struggling offensive line.

Jayhawk Talk

Each week following their game Kansas Head Coach Jordan McAlary makes an appearance on KLWN to talk about the game, we'll include a few key points in this article.

On the dominant defensive performance against BYU:
"What can you say about the defense? Six turnovers, negative rushing yards... that's as good as it gets. Our guys up front played lights-out, and the secondary was ready to pounce on anything. We pride ourselves on being disruptive, and Saturday was a masterclass in that."

On Isaiah Marshall’s injury and Brad Matlock stepping in:
"Isaiah’s injury is tough. We’re still waiting on the final results, but it’s looking like he could miss a few weeks. That said, I have the utmost confidence in Brad Matlock to lead this team. He’s been preparing for moments like this, and you saw what he’s capable of against BYU. We’ll keep running the ball hard, and Brad’s shown he can execute key passes when we need them. The offense won’t skip a beat."

On the offensive game plan moving forward:
"We’ve built this offense to be versatile. The run game has been our bread and butter, and when we’re clicking like we did on Saturday, it opens up opportunities in the passing game. Whether it’s Isaiah or Brad under center, the formula doesn’t change—we stay aggressive and take what the defense gives us."

On the upcoming bye week:
"The bye week couldn’t come at a better time. This gives us a chance to rest up some of our guys, especially after a physical game like that. We’ve got some bumps and bruises across the roster, and this week will let us hit the reset button while keeping the momentum we’ve built. It’s also a great time to fine-tune a few things and make sure we’re ready for the back stretch of the season."

On Johnny Thompson Jr. and Avery Muamba leading the ground attack:
"Johnny and Avery were phenomenal. Over 100 yards each and four total touchdowns between them—that’s exactly what we need from those guys. They’ve embraced the physicality of our run game, and they’re a nightmare for defenses to stop when they’re in rhythm. We’re going to keep leaning on them."
