Boulder, Colorado - In a thrilling Big 12 showdown, No. 20 Kansas rallied in the second half to defeat No. 15 Colorado in Boulder, 35-21. The Jayhawks' second-half resurgence was fueled by quarterback Isaiah Marshall, who entered the game after halftime and sparked the offense to a dominant finish.
Kansas struck first with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Damien Keo to Austin Dogins, but Colorado surged back in the second quarter. Buffaloes quarterback Ryan Staub connected on two long touchdown passes to Josh DeCicco, including a 77-yarder, helping Colorado take a 21-14 lead into halftime.
Second Half: Enter Isaiah Marshall. Taking over at quarterback, the junior provided a spark, leading the Jayhawks to three second-half touchdowns. His 12-yard rushing score in the third quarter tied the game, and a late 29-yard touchdown strike to Damien Keo in the fourth quarter sealed the victory.
Kansas leaned on their "three-headed monster" in the backfield with Isaiah Marshall running for 90 yards and a score while Avery Muamba tallied 88 rushing yards on 14 carries, consistently keeping the Colorado defense on its heels. Johnny Thompson Jr pounded out 89 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, adding a crucial element of physicality. Together, the trio spearheaded a Kansas rushing attack that amassed 288 yards, overwhelming the Buffaloes' defensive front.
The Kansas defense clamped down in the second half, shutting out Colorado and allowing only 249 total yards on the day. Donte Cantrell led the charge with seven tackles, while Damani Maxson contributed five stops and a critical interception.
Marshall's entrance in the second half completely shifted the momentum. His late fourth-quarter touchdown pass to Keo capped off a balanced and composed offensive performance, putting the game out of reach and silencing the Buffaloes' home crowd.
With this win, Kansas moves to 5-1 on the season and continues to cement their position as a Big 12 contender. Colorado, now 3-2, will need to regroup quickly after failing to score in the second half.
Kansas fans have plenty to be excited about, as the Jayhawks' combination of Marshall's dynamic play and their dominant ground game looks poised to carry them through the Big 12 gauntlet.
