Braxton McCoy II, one of the top defensive backs in the 2022 class, announced on social media that he is transferring from IMG Academy (Bradenton, Florida) back to Clairemont High School in San Diego, California to play quarterback where McCoy starred as a freshman.
McCoy played his sophomore season at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada where he was the team's backup quarterback along with catching eight passes as a receiver and intercepting four passes at corner. He transferred to IMG the following season where he split time between IMG's varsity team at quarterback and as a cornerback on their national team.
Since his departure, Clairemont's varsity football team has yet to win a game, going winless in 2019 and didn't play in 2020 due to COVID-19 shutdowns. Clairemont's playoff appearance during McCoy's freshman season was their first since 2012 as the freshman signal caller threw eighteen touchdowns and added an additional nine touchdowns on the ground.
According to 247Sports’ composite list, McCoy is a three-star recruit who is ranked as the No. 32 cornerback in the nation with offers from Jackson State, Georgia Southern, UNLV and San Diego State among others.
