Tennessee Titans draft safety Darnell Brazill out of TCU in the second round
The Tennessee Titans added speed and versatility to the back end of their defense Friday night, selecting TCU safety Darnell Brazill with the 26th pick of the second round. Widely viewed as a top-60 prospect, Brazill gives Tennessee a twitchy, athletic defensive back with clear upside although there are some durability questions with Brazill.
Brazill turned heads during the pre-draft process with his movement skills. He clocked a 4.59-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, then improved that time to 4.54 at his pro day, reinforcing the idea that his game speed matches the film. His acceleration shows up most clearly in short areas, highlighted by a 4.16-second 20-yard shuttle, the best mark among safeties in this class.
That short-area quickness translates well on tape. Brazill displays great agility and change of direction, allowing him to stay connected in man coverage and close throwing windows in zone. He accelerates smoothly out of breaks, takes efficient angles to the ball, and has enough burst to recover when slightly out of position. His jumping ability and overall athletic profile make him competitive at the catch point, even against bigger receivers.
A well rounded defensive back, the biggest question mark around Brazill is his medical history, having yet to play a full season at the college level. The lack of top end speed does project him to be a box safety type, perhaps taking on the role of the departed Isaiah Simmons as well as being a big nickel option for the Titans.

Julian Lewis' draft slide ends as Titans select former Colorado quarterback
The Tennessee Titans have selected Colorado quarterback Julian Lewis with the 79th overall pick, ending his two day long draft slide.
Once a projected first round pick, Lewis' slight frame and lack of elite arm talent led to some questions about his viability as a starter at the next level. The Georgia native has drawn comparisons to Bryce Young during the draft process, weighing in at 192 pounds in Indianapolis at the Combine, ten pounds lighter than Young did in 2023, but is two inches taller than Young.
Lewis was the full-time starter at Colorado for the last two seasons, throwing for forty nine touchdowns and eighteen interceptions over the span of two seasons with a sixty three percent completion percentage. A nimble athlete, Lewis primarily operates from within the pocket but his mobility allows him to buy time and make things happen when things break down.
The biggest question mark around Lewis is if his style of play, with his physical profile, will translate to the NFL which is why teams that were in the market for a quarterback such as Tampa and Indianapolis passed on him for quarterbacks with a stronger build. With Cam Ward as the franchise quarterback and Jalen Milroe as a backup, Lewis comes into a situation where he will likely not be expected to play any time soon and can instead focus on developing.
While the idea of taking best available makes sense for the Titans with two more third round picks, some will wonder if the Titans are essentially wasting a pick on a player that might ultimately never start a game for them.

not trying to run Cam out, but it makes sense. Get Lewis - who is sliding - as an insurance if Cam leaves. If he doesn't and Lewis looks legit, you can leverage him to turn that 3rd into at least a 2nd in the future when you're cash strapped
when they had RFA in Madden I'd always run that gimmick with QBs

Titans address the offensive line depth with addition of Jason Allen, add another edge rusher in Garrison Jones
It wouldn't be a Tennessee Titan draft without a Miami Hurricane being selected as the Titans drafted Miami guard Jason Allen with the 89th overall selection and followed it up a pick later with UConn defensive end Garrison Jones to round out their third round with back-to-back picks.
Allen is one of the heaviest players in the draft, weighing in at the Combine at 345 pounds. There are some concerns with his weight and conditioning, which he has improved on during his time in Coral Gables with respected offensive line coach Alex Mirabal. When Allen is playing at the right weight, the tape pops with his ability to finish blocks in the running game and the nastiness that he brings.
His knee bend isn't always ideal and his technique can get sloppy, especially in the running game when he tries to just overpower guys and gets lazy with his hand placement. Even at his optimal playing weight, Allen will struggle against quicker pass rushers on the inside but he's a good athlete for his size, finishing top five in the 40-yard dash, 3-cone as well as on the bench press, where he put up 35 reps at the Combine and might have played himself into second round consideration if there weren't weight concerns.
Alternatively, Jones is the exact type of player that has given Allen issues in the past. He's a twitched up pass rusher with enough play strength to occasionally line up inside for the Huskies on pass rushing downs although in the NFL, he projects exclusively on the edge. He made a lot of noise at the Combine with a 10'4" broad jump, the best among defensive lineman but his testing saw a dip at his pro day with some wondering if that performances was an outlier. His change of direction skills, however, are evident on tape.
He's got a decent repertoire of moves, including a swift arm-over move and loves to utilize a spin as a counter move. Jones plays with a high motor and has a propensity for finding the football and ripping it out, ending his college career with six forced fumbles. The path to playing time isn't clear for Jones with the addition of Danielle Hunter and the return of four rotational players, including starters Reuben Bain Jr. and Oluwafemi Oladejo. He'll need a strong pre-season to carve out a role but is likely looking at special teams.
