Madrid Lose Olise for Two Months to Broken Elbow


Olise suffered a major injury in the win over Getafe.

Real Madrid officially have the injury bug. After star player, Kylian Mbappe, went down for three months just under two months ago, Michael Olise has become the latest to join the injury list. When going for a challenge in the Getafe match, Olise came away on the wrong end and suffered a broken elbow that will leave him sidelined until late March. With this injury, Madrid now have arguably their two best attacking players unable to play. Mbappe is due back in five weeks, but Florentino Perez does not intend to rest on his laurels and plans to sanction several transfers to replenish the squad before the January 31st deadline. Some sales, possibly of key players, will need to be made to re-jigger the squad's depth but Perez and Bompastor are aligned on doing what needs to be done to secure multiple trophies this season.

Madrid Sign Four, Sell Two, Release Two on Busy Deadline Day

Real Madrid have had one of the busiest transfer deadline days in the history of football. The club began the day with the sale of backup defensive midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery. Zaire-Emery had been frustrated by being second choice to Rodri and believed he has the ability to be playing more regularly at a big club. Arsenal helped make that happen with a €130M bid. Bompastor sees Dani Ceballos as an adequate replacement for him in the backup role.

Following that, Madrid sold their first choice keeper, Guillaume Restes, in a shocking move. Restes was leading the league in clean sheets with 8, but with Nottingham Forest dropping an incredible €133M bid, the money was simply too much for Madrid to turn down. They promptly responded to this deal by signing 33 year old Spanish sweeper-keeper, David Raya, from Wolves for €22M.

Kobbie Mainoo had been involved in a disciplinary issue behind the scenes, and had his contract terminated by Perez despite Bompastor being keen to keep the player. Perez continued to back his manager though, moving for a club record €146M for Pablo Gavi from Juventus. The former Barcelona player made what many will see as a traitorous move to the Bernabeu, but will step in immediately as the club talisman in the #8 role and shirt.

Lastly, Madrid sought to add depth. They made a €50M deal for left footed 27-year-old striker, Santiago Gimenez, of Milan to provide cover behind Endrick. Additionally, the club made a €19M deal for Spanish LCB Yarek from Crystal Palace and released David Alaba, who was set to retire at the end of the season.

However, the biggest story of all must be Gavi's move to Real. Not a direct switch like Luis Figo and Michael Laudrup, but still finding himself as part of the group to play for both along with Luis Enrique, Gheorghe Hagi, Robert Prosinecki, Albert Celades, Samuel Eto'o and more.

Kinda decided to go HAM. Haven't talked about this openly in the dialogue but I think Sonia is only planning to do one season at Madrid. Goal is to try to win the treble and move on to other leagues. Gavi being at Juve made for a good storyline of him being cast aside by Barcelona and looking for revenge with Madrid, sort of like Sonia herself with Paris FC.

The PL clubs have crazy money and have been dropping huge bids for Restes throughout the season. He's really good, but only slightly better than Raya but is way more valuable because he's 23 and Raya is 33. Seemed like a great opportunity to recoup a lot of cash to round out the depth of the squad more with all the injuries we've been having, and also make it better fit the 4-1-3-2 I'm using now instead of the 4-3-3 I had optimized for at the beginning of the season.
