Arizona State Dominates UNLV On Their Way To 3-0
42 Arizona State (3-0) @ #25 UNLV (2-1) 7| Allegiant Stadium | Las Vegas, NV.
By Emilio Suarez Image September 18th, 2027
If the UNLV Rebels were starting to show cracks after narrowly surviving an upset bid by Utah Tech last week, they turned into full blown fissures by the time the Arizona State Sun Devils wrapped up a convincing 42-7 victory at Allegiant Stadium.

Arizona State looked like a team composed and prepared, dismantling the Rebels with dazzling efficiency as they took a 21-0 lead into the half, only narrowly missing out on the shutout after a bomb in the final minute was completed for the Rebels only scoring opportunity of the contest.

Kyson Brown continued to dazzle, contributing 126 yards and two touchdowns while Austin Carlisle showcased his dual-threat capabilities with a passing and receiving touchdown in the contest. Austin Mack was refreshingly efficient, tossing two touchdowns without a turnover in the win.

"This is what we wanted to do, come out and leave no doubt," proclaimed Kyson Brown after the game.

Arizona State will head back to Tempe ready for their most daunting task of the early slate, a showdown with the West Virginia Mountaineers.

2027 Week Four Preview
Arizona State (3-0) @ #18 West Virginia (2-1)
The Devil's Due Mailbag — Week Four Preview Image By: Emilio Suarez
Published: September 24th, 2027
The ASU Sun Devils may have toppled a ranked team last week in the UNLV Rebels, but the West Virginia Mountaineers are on an entirely different level, making this week's showdown in Morgantown a must-see Big XII matchup early in the 2027 campaign.

Michael Hawkins Jr. has himself in the Heisman conversation, but even his heroics couldn't save the Mountaineers from getting outgunned 42-21 by the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Hawkins Jr. and WVU will look to get back on track with the Sun Devils heading to town this week.

Pitchfork Points

Image Who wins the Heisman showdown?

Kyson Brown has quietly put together his own Heisman-caliber season to kickoff 2027 as a dual-threat rushing and receiving threat, but if Arizona State is going to keep Hawkins Jr. at bay, they'll need to lean on Brown in the running game. If they can control the clock with a persistent rushing attack, they'll limit the opportunities of Hawkins Jr., and thus, the scoring.

Image Containment is a must.

Michael Hawkins Jr. is so lethal because he can beat you with his arm or legs. If the Sun Devils want to survive the showdown, they'll have to keep him one-dimensional. That means sound coverage and keeping all eyes on Hawkins Jr. If he's allowed to run free, the Sun Devils will not only be chasing him all over the field, but on the scoreboard as well.

Image Win TOP and turnover battles.

It's not a revolutionary concept, but the Sun Devils will have to win both the time of possession and turnover battles to withstand the potent Mountaineers offense. If WVU is allowed multiple opportunities, or has time to run the Sun Devils defense ragged, it'll be another long afternoon.
