The Victory Lap: Stanford isn't a perfect team but they're a tough one, the offensive line takes another major blow and new QB target

After Earl Nienhuis threw that pick six against TCU, Stanford looked dead in the water and were just on their way to the gallows along with their playoff hopes. They had dominated TCU up to that point but turnovers kept the game close and all the momentum was on TCU's side.

Somehow, Stanford was able to respond to first make it to overtime and then thanks to Richard Caussin, they were able to escape Dallas with the win.

They showed a lot of resiliency and mental toughness to win that game and while we know that Stanford is talented from their games against Ohio State, LSU, USC and even the loss to Georgia, we learned on Saturday night that they're also extremely tough and can withstand a poor performance to turn it around and that's a good trait to have heading into the final stretch.

Wayne Hoffman out for the season with a broken leg
Stanford head coach Bubba Mack confirmed on Saturday after the game that backup interior lineman Wayne Hoffman broke a bone in his leg and will miss the rest of the season.

While on the surface it's a minor loss, Hoffman played sixty four snaps against Florida, fifty-three snaps against Ohio State and has played at least thirteen snaps in all but one game this season.

He's rotated at both guard spots and center so the loss of him continues to eat into the depth of Stanford's offensive line as they already had to shake up the offensive line last week with the injuries at left tackle, moving starting right guard Jalen Freeman to left tackle and inserting Jamal Harris at guard.

Stanford is probably one injury on the offensive line away from having to turn to guys like true freshmen Jeffrey Redman and Joseph Paschal and at this point in the season, that would be a baptism by fire with incredibly high stakes.

Stanford pivots to West Hills' Danny Roldan as top QB target
Roldan, a three-star according to 247Sports who is ranked as the 25th best quarterback this cycle, posted on his social media that he has received his second FBS scholarship offer from Stanford, joining Illinois.

The offer to Roldan comes on the heels of George Ogbonnaya saying he'll be deciding between Texas A&M and Texas, ending Stanford's year long pursuit of him. Pulling Ogbonnaya away from the state of Texas (and the money that comes with those programs) was always going to be a tall order but it surely seemed like Stanford was going to be able to get it done so it's definitely a huge let down.

Roldan is intriguing though and shows similar traits to Nienhuis which might be why the coaching staff have pivoted to him. He's a big, strong kid at six-foot-four and already at two hundred pounds and stands tall in the pocket. He's probably the most impressive thrower of the football that Stanford has signed out of high school since Alex Rowe and his physical profile gives him a higher ceiling than Stanford's other high school signings such as D.J. Sapp (6'0", 188lbs) and Tevita Luck (6'1", 191lbs).

Cardinal add one of the top ranked centers in the country in Alex DiMarco

Four-star center Alex DiMarco has committed to Stanford, announcing it via his social media page.

DiMarco is the sixth ranked center in the country and chose the Cardinal over offers from SMU and Oklahoma. 247Sports has DiMarco listed at six-foot-three and 276 pounds so he'll need to add some more weight before he's game ready but the Stanford coaching staff are extremely high on his talent and view him as a five-star level project.

What stands out in his film is his bend and sturdiness despite being light for the Power 4 level. He doesn't generate a ton of movement in the running game but in the Stanford offense, where they run a lot of duos, the scheme seldomly asks for centers to dig out defensive tackles on their own and DiMarco's athleticism should bode well for those second level blocks which is a staple of the offense.

Stanford also added three-star linebacker Derek Worthy who they view as having the versatility to play safety as well or even that big nickel role. The two additions bring Stanford's class to the top seven as they flip spots with Michigan.

In expected news, five-star defensive end Jamerson Rasmussen made it official, committing to Georgia.

‣ Odom has some history with Stanford, throwing for 388 yards as a true sophomore back in 2028 in Cal's 44-27 loss to the Tavien St. Clair led Cardinal. Since transferring to Oregon, he's waited his turn for two seasons and finally got the chance to start this year where's been good at avoiding mistakes, outside of the Nebraska game, but doesn't brin a lot of playmaking. He'll need to both take care of the football while also making a splash play here or there as this Stanford offense has shown the ability to score 40+ points against quality defenses.

We saw Stanford struggle last week to bring TCU's Tevin Cole to the ground and Johnson is a more talented running back who breaks a lot of tackles and has more explosiveness than Cole, capable of taking a thirteen yard gain into a sixty yard touchdown.
