Coach Porter's Notes
Sam Houston has had a rough season, but they’ve played a tough schedule and have shown fight.
CB Tyler Bailey (#12) is a sure tackler and their most experienced corner.
Jalyn Stanford (#2) at strong safety is physical and active.
We want to control the tempo and lean on our run game early, especially against a defense that’s struggled to make plays.
Protecting the ball is a bug focus for us this week as well.

DELAWARE STARTS A BIT SLOW BUT STEAMROLLS SAM HOUSTON
Hens defense picks up the slack as Delaware moves to 11-0

Saturday November 7, 2026 | Elliott T. Bowers Stadium – Huntsville, Texas | 7:30 PM

Huntsville, Texas - For a moment, it looked like Sam Houston might hang around. But Delaware’s defense had other plans.

After a quiet first half that ended 9–3 thanks to a safety and a short touchdown run by Darrion Dupree, the undefeated Blue Hens woke up in the third quarter to bury the Bearkats and improve to 11–0 on the season.

Quarterback Mason Kelsay found Yannick Smith for a 50-yard touchdown strike early in the third, followed just 29 seconds later by a pick-six from linebacker Will Kendricks. That quick-fire 15-point burst broke the game wide open and snuffed out any hopes of an upset.

“We were a little off early, but once the defense made a play, the floodgates opened,” head coach Tony Sanchez said. “We trust our guys to respond, and they did just that.”

Delaware tacked on three field goals in the fourth quarter from the steady leg of Skyler Sholder, and the defense remained smothering, finishing the night with three forced turnovers and a safety.

The Blue Hens held Sam Houston to just 26 rushing yards and kept quarterback Aidan Collie out of the end zone despite 245 passing yards. Kendricks and Kahlil Ali each intercepted Collie, and KT Seay led the team with 11 tackles.

Offensively, Dupree posted 101 yards and a score on 21 carries, while Kelsay added 64 yards on the ground and 173 through the air with a touchdown and an interception.

Now 11–0 and on the verge of perfection, Delaware continues to show why it’s capable of winning ugly, dominating late, and leaning on a defense that gets better each week.

BLUE HEN REPORT
News and notes from Delaware's latest game
Delaware 33 – Sam Houston 6

Trending Up
Defense | Delaware turned in arguably one of its best defensive performance of the season. The Blue Hens held Sam Houston to just 26 rushing yards. The 6 points allowed are the second fewest all season. Delaware also posted its first safety and pick-six of the year.
LB Will Kendricks | Kendricks delivered a statement play in the third quarter, jumping a short route and returning the interception 24 yards for a touchdown. He added three tackles and three pass breakups in a disruptive effort. Kendricks earned National Defensive Player of the Week as well and CUSA's version of the honor.
RB Darrion Dupree | Dupree surpassed the 100-yard mark for the sixth time this season, rushing 21 times for 101 yards and a touchdown. He also added a 2-point conversion.
CB Hassan Manning Jr. | Manning was everywhere, recording nine tackles, 2 TFL, half a sack, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. He was a problem for the Bearkats for the entirety of the game.
K Skyler Sholder | Delaware’s kicking game was clinical. Sholder went 3-for-3 on field goals (48, 34, 35 yards) and added three extra points. His steady leg helped build the lead in the fourth quarter. Sholder has brought stability to a position that many though would be an issue for the Hens in 2026.
Trending Down
Red Zone Touchdowns | Despite multiple red zone opportunities, the offense managed just one touchdown inside the 20. Settling for field goals worked against Sam Houston but could be costly against better opponents.
Passing Game | Kelsay completed only 50% of his passes (15/30) and tossed a red zone interception. While he did connect on a deep ball to Yannick Smith for a score, overall chemistry seemed slightly off.
Quotables
HC Tony Sanchez | “That’s what a championship defense looks like. Every time we needed a play, someone stepped up.”
LB Will Kendricks | “They didn’t see me coming. I saw the QB glance, and I broke. That was ours the whole way.”
CB Hassan Manning Jr. | “We had something to prove. Didn’t like how we finished against Rutgers. This was a reset.”
QB Mason Kelsay | “I’ve got to clean it up. Defense bailed us out. But we’ll get it sorted.”
Injury Notes
LB Makai Alexander | Alexander missed the game due to a PCL injury suffered vs. Rutgers. His timeline remains uncertain.
News
Still Perfect | Delaware improves to 11–0, matching the longest win streak in program history.
Poll Climb | The Blue Hens rise to #14 in the playoff rankings.
Recruiting Update | 3-star QB Jeff Johnson of New Jersey committed to Delaware.
Crowded in the Middle | Delaware has run away with the top seed in the conference at 7-0. Behind them there are seven of the remaining 10 teams with identical 3-2 conference records all fighting for the chance to knock off the Big Bad Blue Hens in the conference championship game. Sam Houston, sitting at 1-4 in conference, is still technically in the mix for a spot but would need an almost unsurmountable amount of scenarios to play out for that to become a reality.
Next Up
In a bit of a scheduling anomaly Delaware (11-0 | 7-0) will have two consecutive weeks off after packing the schedule full from week 0 to week 10. The Tub will host a live Blippi experience next week before preparing for Delaware's week 13 game against Missouri State (0-10 | 0-6) on November 28th.

BLUE HEN REPORT
Delaware Recruiting Update

QB Jeff Johnson of Hightstown, New Jersey has signed with the Hens. Johnson is a player that OC DJ Porter is very high on. Porter feels Johnson is underrated at three stars and praised his arm strength and accuracy at all levels of throws.
Delaware has elected to move on from CB Nick Davis who is reportedly close to signing with Oregon State.

BLUE HEN REPORT
Delaware Recruiting Update

CB Tavarres Avant of Oak Park, Michigan has signed with Delaware.
Delaware elected to walk away from four star DE Pat Groshek after the Oradell, NJ native moved Notre Dame into his top spot above Delaware.
CB Quintin Fiore appears to be close to signing with Virginia, prompting Delaware to remove him from their board.
OT Telvin Watford met a similar fate after getting closer with Purdue.
