Sanchez' Hens get the win over former team NMSU

Newark, Delaware - ”That was a hot call.” Mason Kelsay said of his 74 yard touchdown connection with senior receiver Thomas Amankwaa early in the fourth quarter of Delaware's 28-23 win over New Mexico State.

“It was something we talked about when we got that look. T.A. gave the signal and that was in. Strike up the band.”

The long touchdown would prove to be the difference in a game that Delaware led 21-3 at halftime before New Mexico State outscored them 20-7 in the second half.

“Good adjustments by them defensively.” Said Delaware OC DJ Porter. “We had some things that were easy money in the first half that they took away in the second so we had to make some changes as well. They put up some points but we were able to put on e in the endzone and that was enough.”

Kelsay threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns along with an interception. He also ran for 87 yards. Delaware was able to find success on the ground with the reshuffled offensive line, rolling up 220 yards rushing.

Darrion Dupree led the Hens with 104 yards on 23 carries, scoring twice. Amankwaa's 103 yards led the way for Delaware.

Delaware's defense was led by KT Seay and Collin Gill. Seay and Kingsley Royal each recorded interceptions in the win.

Coach Porter's Notes
One of the better defensive lines we have faced. No glaring weaknesses. Reed (#98) is fast off the edge. Interior DL is a bit small, may be able to exploit that in the run game.
OLBs Lightsley (#50) and Murphy (#0) are a strength, both of them are fast. They do not a lot of depth behind those two.
CBs are solid with good size. FS Bodnar (#31) is an eraser. Other safety is probably the weakness of the group.
