Founded in 1911 as International, Molde Fotballklubb adopted its current name in 1915 and has grown into one of Norway's most successful football clubs. Based in the coastal city of Molde, the club spent much of its early history competing in regional competitions before gradually establishing itself on the national stage. Nicknamed "De Blaa" (The Blues), Molde became known for its attacking football and passionate local support, eventually making the Aker Stadion—opened in 1998—one of the country's most recognizable football venues.

Molde emerged as a consistent force in Norwegian football during the 1970s and 1980s, regularly challenging for honors despite often falling just short of league success. The club captured its first major trophy by winning the Norwegian Cup in 1994, a breakthrough that marked the beginning of a new era. Five years later, Molde became one of only a handful of Norwegian clubs to reach the UEFA Champions League group stage, competing against European giants including Real Madrid and Olympiacos in the 1999-2000 season.

The club's greatest period of domestic success arrived under legendary manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who guided Molde to its first-ever league championship in 2011 before successfully defending the title in 2012. Another Eliteserien crown followed in 2014, alongside a league and cup double. Under Erling Moe, Molde added further league titles in 2019 and 2022, cementing its place among Norway's elite. The club also claimed Norwegian Cup victories in 2005, 2013, 2014, 2022, and 2023, giving it six cup triumphs heading into the 2024-25 campaign.

By the start of the 2024-25 season, Molde had established itself as one of Scandinavia's premier clubs. With five league championships, six Norwegian Cups, regular appearances in UEFA competitions, and a reputation for developing talented players while playing attractive football, the club entered the new season aiming to challenge domestically and make another deep run in Europe.
