With five league games left, Spurs remain in pole position for first Premier League title
It's no longer a fever dream. Spurs are on their way to winning the Premier League, a feat that hasn't been accomplished by the North London club since its inception in 1992.
Spurs held serve against Aston Villa in a 2-2 draw but otherwise, April was exactly what the doctor ordered with dominant victories against Newcastle and Brighton as well as advanced in the Europa League and the FA Cup to keep a treble on the table for Spurs with a month left in the season.
Tottenham holds a four point gap over second place Liverpool with a game in hand. The magic number for Spurs is eighty-nine points, which would clinch the league even if Liverpool were to win out their remaining games. It's a favorable slate of games to do so for Spurs as their road affairs are against Brentford, Manchester United and relegation battling Sunderland in the season finale. They could easily pick up those nine points in those three games, which would clinch the league.
Even if they only manage to get six or seven points from those three games, the two home games give ample opportunity against Everton and Southampton, another team battling relegation.
Liverpool, meanwhile, has Chelsea next weekend and then it's Leicester City, Aston Villa and Newcastle on the final match day. If they drop points next week against Chelsea, Spurs find themselves in a situation where they could potentially clinch the title at home against Everton. If that scenario does play out, Spurs fans could have a situation where they clinch the league against Everton in their mid-week battle, beat Liverpool in the FA Cup Final that ensuing Saturday and then lift the trophy in front of their home fans four days later.
