Salt Lake City, UT. - San Antonio Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson made a pre-game adjustment before Game 4, inserting Stephon Castle into the starting lineup in hopes of generating more concerted defensive pressure on Ace Bailey—who has topped 40 points in every game of the series.

The strategy backfired spectacularly.

Game 4 became the highest-scoring affair of the series, with Utah outlasting San Antonio 133-123 in an offensive showcase where both teams shot over 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from three. But the Jazz's ability to get to the free-throw line proved to be the difference-maker: Utah scored 20 more points from the stripe than the Spurs by game's end.

Bailey was dominant throughout, putting up 51 points with remarkable efficiency. He saved his best for last, scoring 17 points in the fourth quarter alone to transform a precarious 5-point lead into a comfortable 10-point cushion.

When asked about Utah's significant advantage at the free-throw line, Bailey remained measured and poised.

"We're executing, fighting for good shots, and when they're playing tight defense, contact happens," Bailey said. "The refs made the calls they saw. I can't control that. What I can control is making the shots when we get them—and we did that today. That was the difference."

Richard Jefferson, analyzing the game on broadcast, was struck by Bailey's composure in his first playoff series.

"You watch him out there and he moves like a playoff veteran," Jefferson said during the fourth quarter. "Someone who knows what to expect and has the perfect counter for everything. I keep having to remind myself—this is his first playoff series ever. His poise is remarkable for someone his age."

The Jazz head back to San Antonio with a 3-1 series lead, one victory away from advancing to the second round and eliminating Victor Wembanyama and the defending champion Spurs.

But Jefferson offered a word of caution to Utah fans celebrating prematurely.

"Utah better not get caught playing with their food," he warned as the game wound down. "This Spurs team is still dangerous. Wemby is still playing at an elite level. If you told me San Antonio wins three straight to take this series, I wouldn't call you crazy."

Game 5 is scheduled for Tuesday night in San Antonio.

These are just insane numbers from Bailey. At this point, Spurs got to put Wemby on him defensively.

I don't know why they've been playing so far off him. Every off-ball screen they go under. Even when I've had him take Vassell or Harper in the post, no one rotates over

San Antonio, TX. - For the third consecutive season, the San Antonio Spurs' championship hopes ended in the first round.

The Utah Jazz dispatched San Antonio and presumed MVP Victor Wembanyama 135-115 at Frost Bank Arena, capping a dominant series performance with a 20-point victory that never felt close. Utah entered halftime with just a slim 4-point lead, but then exploded for 31 points in the pivotal third quarter to build a commanding 15-point cushion that San Antonio could never threaten.

Ace Bailey put on one of the most dominant individual performances in NBA playoff history, setting a Utah Jazz franchise playoff record with 58 points. In a stunning display of offensive dominance, Bailey nearly outscored the entire Spurs team in the third quarter, pouring in 17 points while San Antonio managed just 18 as a team.

When asked about his relentless approach in the second half, Bailey credited the team's championship mentality and preparation under Joe Mazzulla.

"We've worked all year on execution and that killer instinct," Bailey said. "Wemby's elite, San Antonio's got great players, but once we had them on the ropes, we couldn't let them steal momentum. We wanted to finish it here and now, and that's what we did."

Bailey's explosive debut has already rewritten the Utah record books. His Game 3 performance of 55 points ranks third in Jazz playoff history. His 51-point effort in Game 4 ties for fourth. His 49-point game in Game 2 ranks fifth.

Through five playoff games, Bailey now holds four of the top five highest-scoring performances in Utah franchise playoff history—a staggering achievement for a player in his first postseason appearance.

The celebration was tempered by concern over Anthony Black's health.

Midway through the third quarter, Black drove for a layup and was fouled hard by Stephon Castle. Tempers flared immediately, with PJ Washington having to be separated from Castle as Black was left clutching his knee on the court. He did not return to the game.

Though the incident seemed to galvanize Utah—the Jazz went on an 11-2 run to close out the quarter—the potential loss of their defensive anchor looms large heading into the second round.

"He's sore," Mazzulla confirmed after the game. "We'll get him back home, get him evaluated, and see what we're dealing with for the next round."

The Jazz will await the winner of the Dallas Mavericks-Los Angeles Lakers series, which is headed to at least six games. The Lakers staved off elimination yesterday and return to Los Angeles trailing 3-2 in the series.

Utah's second-round opponent will be determined within the next few days, giving Utah needed rest to evaluate Black's injury and plan on how to potentially navigate his absence.
