I'll post an article about it before we get rolling, but we fucked ourselves with a terrible finish

Utah's Lethargic Finish Costs Them Home Court In Opening Round

Salt Lake City, UT. - The Utah Jazz's late-season free-fall has set the stage for a brutal first-round matchup: a trip to San Antonio to face Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs—without the home-court advantage they squandered.
With ten games remaining, the Jazz sat comfortably as the third seed with legitimate aspirations of a deep playoff run. Then reality set in.
Utah went 3-7 over those final ten games, watching their playoff positioning crumble in real time as they plummeted from third seed all the way down to sixth. The collapse cost them four crucial home games in the opening round—a monumental swing in a best-of-seven series.
Head coach Joe Mazzulla refused to panic or excoriate his team despite the disappointing finish, instead framing the late-season struggles as a teaching moment for a young roster.
"We took our eye off the prize, and that's on us," Mazzulla said candidly. "But I think people forget how young this team is. Sure, Bam's a veteran. But everyone else? Young and hungry. Sometimes you need this experience—realizing when you have to elevate, when the margin for error shrinks. For most of these guys, this is their first playoff appearance. You underestimate the difference between sleeping in your own bed for four games and being on the road. They'll learn from this, whatever happens, and be ready for what comes next."
It's a measured take from a coach who has seen plenty of adversity in his career. But not everyone around the league is as optimistic.
ESPN analyst Richard Jefferson was far less charitable in his assessment, pointing directly to the Spurs matchup as a potential disaster.
"They fooled around and not only lost their home-court advantage, but now they're going to go up against the man who is the odds-on favorite to win MVP: Victor Wembanyama," Jefferson said on *Around the NBA*. "I know Coach Mazzulla is framing this as a learning opportunity, and I agree. They're going to learn real quickly that actions have consequences."
The sentiment is widespread. Over 88 percent of analysts polled by major sports outlets picked San Antonio to win the series—a damning indictment of Utah's perceived chances despite their 50-32 record and talent-laden roster.
But Mazzulla's competitive fire was evident when asked about the doubters.
"We've seen the trends," he said with a slight smile. "If you think that's going to do anything but motivate us, you must not be familiar with how I coach."
Making matters worse: Cameron Boozer's injury timeline has shifted dramatically.
The second-year forward has been sidelined since early January with a fractured left leg—an injury originally projected to heal in time for the playoffs. However, a recent setback has extended his recovery window to 4-6 weeks, effectively ending his season barring an improbable deep run to the Finals.
It's a devastating blow for both Boozer, who was developing into a legitimate second-option forward, and for the Jazz, who lose a key rotation piece during their most critical stretch.
"It's a tough break," said team leader Ace Bailey, who has emerged as the unquestioned leader of Utah despite being only in his third season. "We feel for Cam. He wants to be here, he was working his ass off in rehab. But sometimes life has a different plan. Nothing we can do about it but go out there and prepare to play our hearts out with the guys we've got."
Utah split the regular season series with San Antonio, winning twice early in the year before losing the final two matchups—both after Boozer's injury. The Spurs, who lost in the first-round in each of the last two seasons, are hungry to add to their Championship trophy case and Wembanyama's ascension into legitimate MVP consideration has made them the most dangerous team in the Western Conference.
For the Jazz, the road ahead is daunting: No home-court advantage, no Cameron Boozer, and a team that has proven it can beat them down the stretch.
But this is also the moment where championships are won or lost—in adversity, when everything points to failure.
Before the Jazz can focus on San Antonio, the Western Conference play-in tournament will determine the final two playoff seeds.
The seventh-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder will face the eighth-seeded Los Angeles Lakers, while the ninth-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves will battle the tenth-seeded Los Angeles Clippers for the final playoff berth.
In the Eastern Conference, the seventh-seeded Boston Celtics will face their Atlantic Division rivals, the eighth-seeded Philadelphia 76ers, while the ninth-seeded Detroit Pistons will take on the tenth-seeded Washington Wizards.
The Jazz's first-round matchup against San Antonio represents a deciding moment on whether their offseason investments actually moved the needle. They traded a king's ransom of draft picks for Bam Adebayo. They signed veteran champions in Marcus Smart and Draymond Green.
Yet here they are: sixth seed, without home court, without their promising second-year forward, facing the presumed MVP.
Everything Joe Mazzulla said about learning opportunities is true. But learning opportunities only matter if you survive them.
For Utah, the time for excuses has passed. The time for execution begins now.

Wemby gonna give you straight meat but you might have enough depth to carry yourself through. Even though Castle coming off the bench might go crazy.
