Tennessee Titans draft preview following Justin Jefferson trade, free agency signings
The Tennessee Titans have signed thirteen players in free agency and with their roster sitting at sixty-one players and the updated roster limit of seventy-five, it's safe to assume that Tennessee's free agency has wrapped up.

The big splash wasn't a signing but a trade, sending away three (yes, THREE!) first round picks to the Minnesota Vikings, along with two second round picks to land star receiver Justin Jefferson. With the move, the Titans went from having a boatload of draft picks, including four in the first two rounds, to not drafting until the third round with the seventy fourth overall pick.

Here are the biggest team needs remaining heading into the draft and some potential fits:

Center
The Titans signed Garrett Bradbury to a one-year deal but the 32-year old is far from a long-term solution and even with the signing of Jon Gaines II to be the presumed backup, the position remains a need.

Following the trade of Lloyd Cushenberry, many draft analysts had mocked Florida's Roderick Kearney to the Titans with one of their first round picks. While Kearney is certainly off the board for the Titans with their remaining draft selections, there are still some solid options for the Titans that should be available in the later rounds.

Image D.J. Chester | 6'6", 315LBS | 32 Bench Press Reps (7th) | 5.04 20-Yd Shuttle (6th) | Round 2-3 Projection

Chester might be available when the Titans are up for their first pick and while he's not the elite athlete that Kearney is, he's still an impressive athlete for the position with some positional versatility with his size and length.

He's the best option at center, the only questions are if the Titans want a different type of center (more on that later) or if they're not willing to invest their highest draft pick on a player that might not play in his first season if he's Bradbury's backup

Image Mark Nabou Jr. | 6'4", 330LBS | 33 Bench Press Reps (4th) | 5.24 20-Yd Shuttle (14th) | Round 3-4 Projection

Nabou Jr. provides something differently at 330 pounds and is a bigger, stouter body than Kearney or Chester but not as good of an athlete. It's notable that during their testing, Chester had favorable numbers in the bench press while the gap in the agility testing was heavily favored towards Chester.

The consensus is that Chester is better but Nabou is a powerful athlete and depending on the type of offense and offensive line that Brian Daboll wants to run, Nabour could be a better fit and better value as he could be available in the fourth round. By comparison, John Michael Schmitz, his starter with the New York Giants, was 320 pounds.

Image Zach Rice | 6'5", 320LBS | 29 Bench Press Reps (11th) | 5.04 20-Yd Shuttle (4th) | Round 3-4 Projection

Why not split the difference? Rice has good measurables and length at six-foot-five, a thicker build than Chester with similar testing numbers in agility. Rice can play anywhere along the interior of the offensive line which is an added bonus but he isn't as polished as the previous two players.

Offensive Tackle
The Titans' didn't pick up the fifth-year option for right tackle J.C. Latham, opening the door and room for questions surrounding his future. While Latham was a Pro Bowl selection and has been playing well, the Titans are clearly prepared to potentially move on from him if the price tag gets too high.

While they won't be in the market for the top tackles in the draft, it's a solid tackle draft and they'll be on the clock with some solid options on the board

Image Lance Heard | 6'6", 330LBS | 36 Bench Press Reps (1st) | 7.57 3-Cone Drill (6th) | Round 3-4 Projection

Heard earned himself a lot of money at the NFL Combine, putting up 36 reps on the bench press with a 10'6" in the broad jump, besting the numbers that the top guys posted. He's dealt with injury issues at Tennessee and the tape doesn't always match the athleticism that was put on display at the Combine. The gamble would be that with development, Heard would improve and if/when the team moves on from Latham, or even potentially left tackle Josh Conerly, he'd be ready to step in.

Image Carter Smith | 6'5", 308LBS | 31 Bench Press Reps (21st) | 7.62 3-Cone Drill (9th) | Day 3 Projection

Smith's size might take him off some team's boards as he's a bit on the lighter side but he might have some of the best feet in the draft. There hasn't been enough of a draft history with this front office to see how they feel about certain archetypes so if they're comfortable with Smith's lack of ideal size, he'd be a good flyer pick in the later rounds.

Image Austin Siereveld | 6'5", 325LBS | 33 Bench Press Reps (14th) | 7.65 3-Cone Drill (9th) | Day 3 Projection

A similar athletic profile to Heard but with not as much experience, Siereveld is a versatile player who played both guard and tackle for the Buckeyes and wasn't a full-time starter until the back half of his senior season. Siereveld can get grabby at times which results in penalties and he probably will be exclusively a right tackle or guard at the next level but the talent is there.

Defensive Line
Defensive ends Oluwafemi Oladejo and Rueben Bain Jr. are both on rookie contracts and Azeez Ojulari has three years left in his deal so the Titans are in a good position at EDGE but could continue to improve their depth especially since free agent signee Marcus Davenport is a one-year deal.

The interior could also use some insurance policies as Jeffery Simmons is one the final year of his deal and T'Vondre Sweat is on the last year of his rookie deal. While its likely that the Titans re-sign both of them, a contingency plan could also be in the works.

Image EDGE Kelby Collins | 6'4", 275LBS | 27 Bench Press Reps (10th) | 4.73 20-Yd Shuttle (31st) | Day 3 Projection

Collins didn't test as well at the Combine as expected but his Pro Day numbers were eye popping with a 10'8" broad jump at nearly 280 pounds. The Titans are probably going to be on the market for a 'jumbo' EDGE player, akin to Rain and Davenport. We saw them move around Bain and Charles Omenihu last season to great success, especially when Simmons or Sweat were out with injuries.

The Alabama product would be that kind of versatile chest piece that is athletic enough to play defensive end in a four-man front but also capable of going inside in odd fronts as well as the occasional pass rushing snaps from the interior.

Image EDGE Adepoju Adebawore | 6'4", 260LBS | 26 Bench Press Reps (15th) | 4.54 20-Yd Shuttle (5th) | Round 2-3 Projection

If the Titans want a twitched up pass rusher to potentially move Bain inside, permanently, Adebawore is a solid option. He ran an eye popping 4.58 at the Combine and then ran a 4.52 in his Pro Day. He's a physical player with a motor that runs through a whistle. The Titans may need to move up to get him as he could go anywhere from the middle of the second to the earlier portion of the third round.

Image EDGE Jaxson Howard | 6'4", 250LBS | 27 Bench Press Reps (12th) | 4.65 20-Yd Shuttle (20th) | Round 3-4 Projection

A former highly touted prospect whose production never matched the talent, this would be the ultimate high risk/high reward gamble for the Titans. Some draft analysts thought Howard would skyrocket up draft boards with his testing which would overshadow the lack of production but he graded out as an average athlete at the Combine for the position.

There are flashes of greatness and brilliance from Howard on tape, especially from this past season, but he just hasn't shown the ability to be an every down player, especially against the run and his sack production doesn't justify drafting him to be a pass rushing specialist.

Image DT Bear Alexander | 6'3", 302LBS | 33 Bench Press Reps (12th) | 7.50 3-Cone Drill (9th) | Round 3-4 Projection

It's a common saying in the scouting and coaching world that potential gets you fired. The Titans took a gamble on Jermaine Matthews Jr. last year despite mixed production from him at Ohio State and it paid off. Alexander is as blue chip as they come and after bouncing around schools, he had a solid few seasons with the Ducks to get him into Day 2 considerations but will likely slide into that third round.

There's some character concerns here and as a team that's still establishing the culture, without a permanent head coach named no less, do they roll the dice on a talent like Alexander or is he just living off from his high school hype?

Image DT D.J. Hicks | 6'3", 296LBS | 32 Bench Press Reps (14th) | 7.70 3-Cone Drill (23rd) | Round 3-4 Projection

In a world where this is Simmons' last season and the Titans instead opt to resign Sweat, they would then need an athletic, pass rushing defensive tackle to pair with Sweat and replace Simmons. Hicks is exactly that as a sub-300 pounder with good movement skills. He didn't test as well as his tape would suggest but the pass rushing element is there from Hicks along with the production.

Linebacker
Zaire Franklin is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and had Whit Weeks been a full-time starter, he might have competed with T.J. Parker and Bain for Defensive Rookie of the Year so the starting linebackers are set.

The team traded away Nakobe Dean and even with the signing of Brandon Smith and returning the likes of Taurean York and James Williams, the Titans could be looking to add some more depth to the position as Franklin is on the wrong side of thirty.

Image LB Jeremiah Alexander | 6'2", 230LBS | 4.63 40-Yd Dash (11th) | 25 Bench Press Reps (5th) | 6.93 3-Cone Drill (2nd) | Round 2-3 Projection

Alexander tested like one of the twitchiest linebackers in the class, especially with that 6.93 three-cone — an elite number that shows up on tape with how quickly he redirects. The Titans have been looking for a strongside linebacker who can both set the edge and stay on the field in sub-packages, and Alexander fits that modern mold. He’s physical downhill and can play through contact better than his 230-pound frame suggests.

The biggest question is whether Tennessee values the SLB spot enough to spend a Day 2 pick, especially with other needs along the defensive front. Alexander is talented enough to justify it, but the positional value debate will linger.

Image LB Grayson Howard | 6'4", 236LBS | 4.75 40-Yd Dash (14th) | 21 Bench Press Reps (10th) | 7.11 3-Cone Drill (6th) | Day 3 Projection

Howard has the size and measurables teams want in an interior linebacker, but his tape is still a bit inconsistent. At 6'4", he’s a big-bodied second-level player who can thump downhill and take on guards without getting overwhelmed. His lateral agility numbers were better than expected, and that could help him carve out a role on special teams early.

Howard doesn't offer the positional versatility of the others and would be exclusively Franklin's backup and eventual replacement potentially. Does that justify picking him up with one of your first draft picks if he's not likely to play for at least a year or two?

Image LB Qua Russaw | 6'2", 243LBS | 4.48 40-Yd Dash (2nd) | 26 Bench Press Reps (3rd) | 6.98 3-Cone Drill (3rd) | Round 2-3 Projection

One of the most explosive linebackers in the class, Russaw lit up the testing circuit with elite numbers across the board. That 4.48 at 243 pounds is borderline EDGE territory, and the Titans could view him as a movable chess piece in their sub-front packages. He plays with violence and rarely hesitates, triggering downhill with the kind of burst that stresses blocking schemes.

The concern is coverage consistency — he has the athletic tools but can play out of control. Still, if the Titans want a true weakside linebacker who can run, chase, and blitz at a high level, Russaw fits the bill and may not even make it to their pick.

Image LB Troy Bowles | 6'2", 230LBS | 4.71 40-Yd Dash (23rd) | 21 Bench Press Reps (14th) | 7.19 3-Cone Drill (18th) | Round 3-4 Projection

Bowles had solid, if not unspectacular, testing across all drills, but his value comes from his instincts and play recognition. His ability to diagnose quickly could make him a plug-and-play contributor in the right system. Bowles pedigree, the son of Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles, could make him worth a flyer as he could be one of those guys that ends up being a fifteen year pro.

Safety
The Titans added safety Lonnie Johnson and are bringing back Kevin Winston Jr. and Isaiah Simmons after letting Xavier Woods and Dee Delaney walk. The position remains a need, especially for a true free safety type that can be that single high safety.

Image FS Markeith Williams | 6'2", 185LBS | 4.45 40-Yd Dash (3rd) | 39.2" Vertical Jump (4th) | 10'4" Broad Jump (3rd) | Round 3-4 Projection

Williams is one of the more intriguing centerfield options in this class, pairing true single-high range with a long, wiry frame. His explosive testing backs up what shows on film — he covers space fast and erases vertical shots with ease.

The concern is functional strength and tackling consistency, especially at just 185 pounds. He’ll need time in an NFL weight program, but the upside as a high-volume snaps free safety is undeniable if Tennessee wants to add some more top end speed to their back end.

Image SS Zion Branch | 6'2", 210LBS | 4.43 40-Yd Dash (2nd) | 40.0" Vertical Jump (1st) | 10'4" Broad Jump (3rd) | Round 3-4 Projection

Branch is a prototypical strong safety with elite explosiveness — his 40-inch vert and 4.43 speed both ranked near the top of the position. He plays downhill with bad intentions and has the kind of strike power that the Titans have clearly valued with guys like Winston and Simmons.

Georgia used him in multiple roles, and his athletic profile suggests he can handle tight end matchups while also contributing heavily in run support. The question for Tennessee is how much they value a traditional box presence which they already have in Simmons so there could be some redundancy but they could be viewing it as an upgrade over Simmons.

Image FS Joenel Aguero | 5'11", 205LBS | 4.53 40-Yd Dash (8th) | 37.4" Vertical Jump (9th) | 10'0" Broad Jump (12th) | Day 3 Projection

Aguero is a compact, sturdy-built safety whose best play comes when he’s attacking downhill. He’s physical, tackles well in space, and brings an edge to the position that coaches will like. While his testing was solid, it didn’t elevate him above the mid-round cluster of safeties, and there are still questions about his ability to hold up in deep coverage.

For the Titans, Aguero profiles as a depth piece who contributes on special teams immediately and rotates in as a third safety in big nickel looks. The ceiling isn’t as high as other prospects, but the floor is stable — and that has value late on Day 3.
