New England dominates Minnesota despite resting starters for most of the game
By the end of New England's first drive, the Indianapolis Colts had clinched the top seed in the AFC and with it a bye week following their win over the Tennessee Titans in the regular season finale. With this result now in hand, Jerod Mayo had a choice to make. Leave his starters out there to help secure the number two seed or rest them and risk falling to the third seed with a loss and a Baltimore win.

Mayo and the Patriots had their cake and ate it too with Drake Maye throwing for two touchdowns in three drives and then sitting for the rest of the game as New England's backups secured the 40-17 win over a hapless Minnesota Vikings team.

Joe Milton III showed signs of an NFL starter, completing 71 percent of his passes while averaging 11 yards per attempt and throwing for 241 yards and two touchdowns, including a 77-yarder to Barion Brown. Brown had one of his best games of the year after struggling with injuries throughout the season, catching three passes for 110 yards. Gavin Sawchuck saw extensive playing time for the first time, rushing for 77 yards and had two total touchdowns.
