With Ryan Williams still on the board, the microscope on the Justin Jefferson trade magnifies
The Tennessee Titans made a calculated decision when they went all in on Justin Jefferson, trading away their two first round picks in this year's draft, which the Minnesota Vikings used to draft safety Koi Perich and linebacker Qua Russaw. The calculus, no doubt, was that at the bottom of the first round, the caliber of talent wouldn't be that of a Jefferson and while that might ultimately end up being true, how Thursday night ended makes that calculus that much more interesting.

Alabama's Ryan Williams was available at 30 and 31, and remains available as the second round is set to begin. Williams isn't Jefferson and might never be that but the prospect of being able to draft Williams and the likes of Perich or Isaac Smith in the first round and then following up with left tackle Howard Sampson and linebacker Arvell Reese in the second round. Is Jefferson, when you factor in his salary cap hit, worth three potential day-one starters on rookie deals?

It's an equation that entirely depends on how you viewed the Titans heading into the offseason. Were they a team that was a superstar away from competing for a Super Bowl? On the surface, they are. In fact, they were just a few plays away from beating the Cincinnati Bengals and playing against a Philadelphia Eagles team they played earlier that season and beat. If it's Jefferson out there, maybe they score 38 points instead of 31.

The other takeaway could be that the Titans got hot, won a bunch of one score games which got them a first round bye and all they did was beat a rookie quarterback and then predictably lost to Cincinnati, needing a late touchdown to make the score competitive? If that's the case, they're a middle of the road team without stability at head coach and now within a top-64 draft pick, just two top 100 picks and are going to be paying a receiver that hasn't had a 1,000-yard season in the last two seasons nearly $50 million.

Jets continue to steal the headlines in the NFL Draft as Ryan Williams' slide ends
Alabama receiver Ryan Williams didn't have to wait long to end his nightmare draft-day slide as the once projected first round pick was selected with the third pick in the second round of the 2027 NFL Draft, joining Texas' Arch Manning with the New York Jets.

Williams, who splashed onto the scene as a true freshman at Alabama, had some inconsistent production in the last two seasons but his flashes of brilliance had many predicting him to be the second receiver taken in the draft and while that was ultimately true, it was 31 picks after Jeremiah Smith, who Williams graced the cover of EA Sport's College Football 26 with two years ago.

It was a round for skill players as six receivers were taken as well as five running backs, including three consecutive selections in Ahmad Hardy (Arizona), Isaac Brown (Miami) and Caden Durham (Cleveland).

No quarterbacks were selected after three went in the first round as Josh Hoover and Sam Leavitt remain on the board.

Could Titans capitalize on draft slide of several top prospects?
The Tennessee Titans are finally scheduled to have a draft pick after sitting out the first night and the first two rounds of the NFL Draft. The Titans, when the draft starts, will have to wait just nine selections before being up.

The NFL Draft has already seen multiple projected first round picks, most notably Ryan Williams, fall out of the first round and even as the third round is set to begin, several prospects remain on the board that had top-60 grades on them. Here are some options:

Image WR Noah Rogers | 6'2", 205LBS | 18th Ranked Player | 4.50 40-Yd Dash (25th) | 10'4" Broad Jump (7th)

The first round buzz around Rogers was probably premature and overblown as the production wasn't really there for him and his performance at the Combine, while solid, wasn't enough, in retrospect, to make teams forget about the concentration drops he suffered from last season and the fact that he doesn't have an elite trait. He'll probably be a really solid receiver for a team at some point but he doesn't make such sense for the Titans, given his skillset, and he's on this list mainly because he is the highest ranked player available that's not a quarterback.

Image S Kaleb Harris | 6'1", 201LBS | 40th Ranked Player | 4.42 40-Yd Dash (1st) | 6.89 3-Cone Drill (2nd)

This isn't fair to Harris since we don't know why he drops which leads to people speculating it might be character or interview related. Harris' Combine wasn't good, it wasn't great, it was phenomenal and he left Indianapolis with the question being whether he'll be a second round pick or sneak into the first round. It was neither for Harris and we might never know why but between his combine performance and the tape, it's hard to figure out why Harris has slid so far.

Image S Adon Shuler | 6'0", 207LBS | 59th Ranked Player | 4.47 40-Yd Dash (4th) | 6.88 3-Cone Drill (1st)

Shuler is one of the most surprising names still available, especially after posting the best three-cone time among all strong safeties. His tape shows a smart, consistent defender who rarely takes false steps and tackles with the kind of technique that coaches trust early. He doesn’t quite have the elite explosiveness of the top-tier safety prospects, but he’s steady and versatile.

For the Titans, Shuler would make sense if they’re looking for an interchangeable safety who can handle split-field responsibilities right away. He’s not a pure centerfielder, but his reliability and movement skills make him an easy projection to early playing time as they look to replace Xavier Woods.

Image WR Cayden Lee | 5'11", 180LBS | 62nd Ranked Player | 4.40 40-Yd Dash (6th) | 6.78 3-Cone Drill (2nd)

Lee’s slide is more about positional stacking than any real flaw. He’s undersized and doesn’t have overwhelming production, but he tested extremely well and his agility numbers show up on tape with how sharply he gets in and out of breaks. He’s a smooth, nuanced route runner who can create separation underneath, especially in an offense that features Justin Jefferson and a speedster like Ja'Kobi Lane.

The question is whether Tennessee wants another smaller separator rather than a bigger-bodied target who complements their current roster. Lee is a very clean prospect, but his fit depends on how they envision their receiver rotation.

Image S Malik Hartford | 6'3", 200LBS | 65th Ranked Player | 4.45 40-Yd Dash (3rd) | 6.89 3-Cone Drill (3rd)

Hartford is a long, rangy safety with some of the best movement skills in the class for his size. At 6'3", he covers ground impressively well, and his combination of length and top-end speed gives him the traits to develop into a true deep defender. The concern has always been his play strength — he can get washed out in the run game and doesn’t always finish as consistently as teams prefer from a starter. How does he mesh with Kevin Winston Jr. and do they want a little more physicality from this position?

Titans draft Syracuse center Zach Rice with their first pick of the NFL Draft
The Tennessee Titans made their first selection of the 2027 NFL Draft, selecting Syracuse center Zach Rice with the 74th overall pick.

It's been a busy offseason for the Titans at the position, trading away multi-year starter Lloyd Cushenberry to Cleveland and then signed former Vikings and Patriots center Garrett Bradbury to a one-year deal in free agency.

Rice fits stylistically somewhere between Bradbury and Cushenberry as he is closer to Cushenberry in terms of size at six-foot-five and 320 pounds but has a similar athletic profile to Bradbury with his athleticism and movement skills.

Rice was a former five-star prospect who bounced around from North Carolina to Syracuse where he transitioned from tackle to guard to his eventual landing spot at center. Whether or not he has the upside to be a decade long starter in the NFL remains to be seen but he projects to be a solid rotational player capable of being a day-one starter and being serviceable (enough) to be Cam Ward's next center, a battle he'll need to win in the spring and summer.

2027 NFL Draft Third Round Selections
65. IND ‣ C Malik Nabou Jr, Texas A&M
66. NE ‣ S Kaleb Harris, Auburn
67. NYJ ‣ TE Lawson Luckie, Georgia
68. LV ‣ QB Josh Hoover, TCU
69. CAR ‣ DT Bear Alexander, Oregon
70. ATL ‣ HB Nate Frazier, Georgia
71. TB ‣ HB Jadarian Price, Notre Dame
72. NYG ‣ TE Decker Degraff
73. SEA ‣ TE Luke Reynolds, Penn State
74. TEN ‣ C Zach Rice, Syracuse

Titans trade No. 91 pick to Seattle for future third round pick, a fifth-round pick in this year's draft
The Tennessee Titans have traded out of the third round, sending away the 91st overall pick in the draft to the Seattle Seahawks for a future third round pick and the 169th overall selection in this year's draft. The Seahawks selected edge rusher Enow Etta out of Michigan with the acquired draft pick.

The Titans had long been linked to selecting a safety with one of their two picks but saw a run of safeties after they opted to draft Zach Rice at No. 74. Shortly after, Adon Shuler and Malik Hartford went off the board, the two top safeties left, and then Zion Branch and Derek Williams were selected a few picks later.

The Titans next pick will come in the fourth round which, for now, promises to be a busy round with three selections in that round.

The final tally, for this draft, on the Justin Jefferson trade is now in as the Vikings drafted Da'Shawn Womack with the third round pick involved in the trade to acquire Jefferson. As a whole, the Vikings traded Jefferson for safety Koi Perich, linebacker Qua Russaw, center D.J. Chester, defensive tackle Jamari Lyons and the aforementioned Womack. Ironically, that would have been a solid draft for the Titans, addressing areas of needs on the roster currently.
