END OF THE ROAD

January 22nd, 2022
Nissan Stadium
Nashville, Tennessee
BUF (9-8)|00|17|07|14|38
TEN (13-4)|07|14|03|00|24
Tennessee started strong, forcing a Buffalo punt and driving for a score to start the game and go up 7-0.
Buffalo answered on their second possession when Josh Allen connected with tight end Dawson Knox for a short touchdown pass. It would be the first of five touchdown passes for Allen on the day. The score was setup by a roughing the kicker call against Tennessee on a fourth a three field goal attempt by Buffalo that gave the Bills a first down and the Tennessee 15. Allen connected with Cole Beasley for an 11 yard gain then Devin Singletary to the goal line before finding a very open Knox on a five yard out.
On a third and eight from their own 30 yard line Tennessee got the first big play of the game when Tannehill connected with Josh Reynolds on a deep drag and Reynolds raced past the defense for a 70 yard score and a 14-7 Titans lead.
Buffalo's next possession ended in a 44 yard Tyler Bass field goal, making it 14-10 Tennessee late in the second quarter.
The Titans wasted no time answering, scoring in three plays on a Tannehill to Julio Jones 41 yard score. Jeremy McNichols set up the score with an 18 yard catch and run followed by a gain of 17 on a run.
With just over a minute before halftime Josh Allen went to work, completing five of six pass attempts for 75 yards and finding runningback Reggie Gilliam for a 10 yard score before the break.
After Derrick Henry was stopped cold at the one yard line by Buffalo linebacker Tyler Matakevich the Titans settled for a 19 yard field goal by Randy Bullock that extended their lead to 24-17.
Allen and the Buffalo offense answered with another 10 yard score to Gilliam to tie things up later in the third quarter.
The first play of the fourth quarter was the first punt of the game with Tennessee's Brett Kern's weak kick travelling only 36 yards and setting up the Buffalo offense at their 36 yard line.
Eight plays later Buffalo took their first lead of the game when Allen hit Emmanuel Sanders for a nine yard score.
Tennessee went three and out on their ensuing possession following a two yard run by McNichols, a sack and pass being batted down by Bills linebacker Matt Milano. Kern's second punt was only marginally better than his first, travelling 38 yards and setting up Buffalo on their 36 yard line yet again.
Tennessee got the Bills to a third and long but a pass interference penalty kept the Buffalo drive alive, giving them 24 yards and a first down at the Tennessee 37. Five plays later Allen connected with Knox for another score, making it 38-24 Bills with under two minutes to play.
The Titans offense started the possession strong, picking up 53 yards on their first three plays before a pair of incompletions and a strip sack ended the game.
"Disappointed for sure." Tannehill said after the loss. "We put in a lot of work and had a strong season, had a lot of high hopes coming into the playoffs, having homefield. It's tough."
Buffalo, determined not to let Derrick Henry beat them, held the NFL's single season rushing yardage leader to just 58 yards and a score on 15 carries.
"We had those quick scores in the first half so not a lot of offensive plays. They were stacking the box and we expected that so it just didn't work that way." Vrabel explained when asked about a lack of touches for Henry.
Bills standout cornerback Tre'Davious White shut down A.J. Brown, holding him without a catch.
"Great coaching." Vrabel said when asked how the Bills were able to take away the Titans two best offensive players.
For Buffalo's offense it was a nearly flawless game. They scored 38, didn't turn the ball over and only gave up a single sack on 38 pass attempts.
The Bills will continue on in hopes of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy while Tennessee will wonder where they went wrong and work on putting the pieces together for another run next season.

Divisional Playoff Weekend
Saturday January 21st, 2022
49ers (10-7) @ Packers (14-3)
-The Divisional round started off with an upset as Trey Lance and the 49ers topped Aaron Rodgers and the Packers 31-23. Could this have been Rodger's last game in Green Bay?
Chargers (10-7) @ Steelers (10-7)
-Justin Herbert threw a trio of TD passes and Chargers defense picked off Big Ben twice including a pick six by Drue Tranquill en route to a 31-15 win. Have we seen the last of Roethlisberger?
Sunday January 22nd, 2022
Bills (9-8) @ Titans (13-4)
-Josh Allen threw five touchdown passes and the Bills held Derrick Henry under 60 yards as the other number one seed in the playoffs was one and done. Can Tennessee add some pieces in the offseason and go deeper next year?
Cowboys (11-6) @ Buccaneers (14-3)
-Dallas nearly pulled off the upset but a Tom Brady to Mike Evans TD pass with 33 seconds left in the game gave Tampa Bay the win and kept their hopes alive for the repeat. Will Tom Brady ever fall off?

I really didn't!
It was one of those games where the CPU just wasn't going to let me win. Their receivers were catching everything!
I'll get deeper into roster stuff as the offseason goes on but I'd love to do the following:
Better QB2, Receiving RB, WR3/Slot, upgrade TE, tweak OL, Defensive front 7 is pretty solid, good at both safety spots but need to re-sign both back ups or bring in new ones. CB should be the biggest change. I'll probably try to move on from Skrine and Jenkins and work with Molden, Fulton and Farley. I'll need a kicker too.

I'd have to look but I think we currently have over 20 free agents even after re-signing my LBs and Ben Jones
