2026 Week One Preview
Morgan State (0-0) @ Arizona State (0-0)
The Devil's Due Mailbag — Week One Preview Image By: Emilio Suarez
Published: September 4th, 2026
It's time to put your Forks in the air and break out the face paint, Sun Devil fans, because the opening weekend of the 2026 season is finally here! Arizona State went a respectable 8-5 last season, but even so it was still a massive disappointment after riding Cam Skattebo to the College Football Playoff in 2024.

The first step towards reaching their second College Football Playoff begins tomorrow when the FCS Morgan State Bears invade Mountain America Stadium at 3:30 PM.

Pitchfork Points

Image Who will emerge from the QB Battle?
The injury to Cam Dyer was a huge blow to the level of competition for Arizona State's QB battle that raged on through the summer, but we'll settle the debate once and for all this weekend. Hopefully. All signs point to Cutter Boley getting the start, but sources close to head coach Kenny Dillingham indicate both Mikey Keene and Jake Fette will get some snaps in during the game.

Image Can the secondary hold up?
The Sun Devils' front seven is ferocious, led by the colossal defensive tackle CJ Fite. Jalen Thompson and Emar'rion Winston are the bookends who should each command single coverage with the disruption Fite will cause at the point of attack. But it won't amount to anything if the secondary can't hold up in coverage. Ashton Stamps is the bonafide star of the unit, but if Rodney Bimage Jr and Chance Rucker can't hold their own, teams will throw away from Stamps and dice apart the secondary. Until they prove themselves, look for teams to rest Bimage and Rucker early and often.

Image Can the offensive line keep their QB upright?
Regardless of who is under center, they won't stand a chance if the offensive line can't hold up their end of the bargain. The Sun Devils ranked in the bottom third of the nation in sacks allowed per game, and it showed with the injury riddled season Sam Leavitt suffered as a result. Cutter Boley, or whoever else may win the job, could be the next coming of Peyton Manning, but if they don't have time to pass the ball, it'll be a moot point.

Arizona State Overcomes Slow Start In Dominant Opening Win
17 Morgan State (0-0) @ Arizona State (0-0) 63 | Mountain America Stadium | Tempe, AZ.
By Emilio Suarez Image September 5th, 2026
Tempe, AZ. - In the end, the Arizona State Sun Devils did exactly what everyone thought they would to open the season: eviscerate the FCS Morgan State Bears. What none had on their bingo card, however, was the Bears exiting the first quarter with a 17-14 lead after a pair of explosive touchdowns was combined with a Cutter Boley interception.

Once the opening day jitters wore off, the Sun Devils were back to hotfooting their way into the end zone. It was 35-17 by the half in what became the eventual 63-17 rout. Cutter Boley shook off the early interception to finish with 188 passing yards and four touchdowns in his two quarters of play.

While both Mikey Keene (78 yards, 2 TD) and Jake Fette (51 yards) saw a quarter of action, it became clear that Boley was the man calling the shots in Tempe.

"We kind of knew it going in," admitted Dillingham when asked about Boley's status as the incumbent starter, "But you don't know for sure until they throw the pads on and see how it shakes out live."

"Now we know," added Dillingham with a smirk.

The Morgan State Bears offense went nuclear in the first quarter, tallying 151 yards of offense to seize the brief lead. Then, the Sun Devils found their mojo and the Bears went running for the hills. Morgan State only amassed 48 yards across the final three quarters while the Sun Devils lived in the backfield, totaling seven sacks and a staggering 17 tackles for loss.

"Once we started playing with a lil' confidence, we was off to the races," nodded defensive coordinator Brian Ward.

"That's what you want to see, adapting and overcoming. Hopefully we adapt just a bit sooner next week," cautioned Ward.

Arizona State's first real test of the 2026 season will come next week, when the Sun Devils travel to Kyle Field to face off against the Texas A&M Aggies.

WR Omarion Miller
5 REC, 104 YDS, 3 TD

I bet you heard those saxophones start playing after that first quarter.

Omarion Miller seems like such a gamer. I could see him getting an easy 1,000 yards for you.

BRO. I was like ain't no way. On the 75-yard touchdown the TE broke three tackles and stiff armed the last dude that caught him

I really like the whole receiving corp. so far, but yeah Omarion is a dude. Wish I could get one more year outta him
