Huskies get their center in Tretter, hopeful replacement at receiver in Boykin

After focusing on defense, the Toronto Huskies added to their offense with the signing of center J.C. Tretter to a one year deal worth $3.5 million and landing receiver Miles Boykin with a two year, $9 million deal.

Boykin is a potential replacement for receiver Terry McLaurin, who signed a four year, $49.4 million deal with the New York Jets. Boykin caught 63 passes in 2021 but just seventeen in 2022 as his role lessened with the Baltimore Ravens. The Huskies are hopeful they can get the most out of the six-foot-four receiver who brings some interesting skill sets to the receiver room.

They also signed tight end Austin Traylor, defensive end Christian Wilkins and Joe Jackson to one year deals.

Huskies trade up in draft, ship former 3rd round pick TMyers to Detroit

The Toronto Huskies did not wait for the draft to do some reshuffling, trading away right tackle Josh Myers and the 26th overall pick in the draft to the Detroit Lions for their eight overall pick.

This is rather unusual for a team to move up in the draft before the draft is even here, sight unseen as to who could potentially be available at eight. This move, however, gives Toronto the leverage now to either stay put or trade back out while the eight overall pick, at this present moment, has its lowest value.

Many wonder if Toronto is perhaps targeting LSU receiver Dustin McNeill, the top player in Mel Kiper's draft board or free safety Gabe Toon out of South Carolina.

Bowles impact evident as Huskies bulk up along the interior

The Toronto Huskies have signed defensive tackle Marcell Dareus and Dontari Poe to one year deals in the $1 million range, a deal that is a clear sign of the switch in defensive philosophy.

With the Huskies hiring Todd Bowles as their defensive coordinator, the team will now deploy a 3-4 defense as their base, moving Chase Young and Montez Sweat to outside linebacker. This created a need for more beef up front, which Dareus and Poe bring as they have both played the nose tackle position. They're expected to backup Da'Ron Payne.

The team also signed wide receiver Andy Isabella and tight end David Wells to one year deals.

Berrios rewarded for breakout season with long-term extension

Braxton Berrios was one of the surprises of the 2022 season as the former camp invite ended up becoming a key piece of the offense. For that, the receiver/return specialist got a three year, $9.54 million extension to keep the fan favorite in Toronto.

With the Berrios signing, Toronto heads to the draft with many pegging them to land one of the top interior linemen in center Blaine Masters, Richard Messina and Stephen Zeigler with their eight overall pick despite the team signing J.C. Tretter. Given Tretter's age, center remains an unsolved piece of the offense in terms of the future.
