Huskies sign Schwartz, McCourty and Newton in first 24 hours of free agency
Sebastian Barnes -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

The Toronto Huskies opened the first day of free agency with three signings, all former pro bowlers as they signed tackle Mitchell Schwartz, safety Devin McCourty and quarterback Cam Newton.

They are all one-year deals with Schwartz receiving a $16.5 million contract, Newton a $5 million contract and McCourty, perhaps the most important one, coming in at $3.1 million.

All veterans that are likely to retire within a few seasons, Schwartz provides stability at right tackle while McCourty looks to shore up the secondary. Newton's role will be to mentor another fellow number one overall pick in Trevor Lawrence. The Huskies were interested in Newton last season but he passed on the opportunity in hopes of starting somewhere else.

The Huskies remain linked to other high profile free agents such as cornerback Chris Harris Jr. and receiver Josh Gordon.

Huskies continue to add veterans as free agency progresses
Sebastian Barnes -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

The Toronto Huskies have signed offensive line Bryan Bulaga, wide receiver Josh Gordon and wide receiver Allen Lazard.

Lazard's deal is the only one that's multi-year, coming in at two years, $4 million while Gordon is a one year, $2.95 million deal and Bulaga is a one-year $5.76 million. Bulaga, who played guard in college, might make the switch from tackle to guard by the time training camp comes around. They could also move newly signed Mitchell Schwartz to left tackle and keep Bulaga at right while moving last year's left tackle Josh Myers inside, a move they've considered.

Huskies break for camp in brand new facilities as second season is underway
Sebastian Barnes -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

The Toronto Huskies signed 19 players to bring their roster total up to 75 as they head into training camp in the brand new team facilities that are just minutes from ManuLife Financial Field.

The signings included QBs Joshua Dobbs and Brad Kaaya, WRs Kendrick Rogers, Braxton Berrios and K.J. Osborn, TEs Lance Kendricks, Donnie Ernsberger and Temuchin Hodges, DEs Chad Thomas, Daeshon Hall, Dion Jordan and Demarcus Walker, DT Mike McCarthy and Tyler Clark, OLBs Harvey Langi, Nick Deluca and Malik Jefferson, CBs Sean Crews and Davontae Harris.

The team also traded a 2023 fourth round pick to the Arizona Cardinals for safety Jalen Thompson.

Top Storylines
The revamped offensive line
Toronto will have an entirely new looking offensive line after drafting two linemen in the first round in Dominique Vernon and Drew Mackey and signing Bryan Bulaga and Mitchell Schwartz in free agency.

The plan is to kick Mackey and Bulaga inside at guard, move last year's starting right guard Netane Muti to center and roll with Vernon at left tackle and Schwartz at right tackle. This is an entirely new offensive line wit the only returning starter in Muti playing a different position. What does this mean for third-year guard Calvin Throckmorton and second year left tackle Josh Myers, both former third round picks?

Hurd returns to running back after struggling at receiver
Jalen Hurd left the University of Tennessee for a variety of reasons but one of them was because Hurd wanted to play receiver instead of running back, where he was setting school records. Hurd went to Baylor, made the switch and had success. He hasn't had success at the next level and after a season of drops in Toronto, the team officially moved him to running back this spring.

At six-foot-four and 227 pounds, Hurd is a decent size running back that will get a chance to win the starting job. Travis Homer is gone and so is Jaylen Samuels, leaving Hurd to battle it out with draft classmate Bryce Love for the starting job.

Who starts at nickel?
Toronto wasn't able to get a premier corner, instead they drafted two corners in Donovan Bigby and Ashley Konrad. Konrad is extremely raw, having only played the position for two years after coming to Rutgers as a receiver. They will both compete with Lavert Hill for that nickel role and should get plenty of playing time as the team is expected to rest top corners Chidobe Awuzie and Sidney Jones IV.

Who will emerge as the fourth receiver?
Outside of the big three of Chris Godwin, Terry McLaurin and Rondale Moore, no other Huskies receiver had more than 15 catches in 2021. While pro bowler Brycen Hopkins is essentially another receiver, Toronto needs that fourth option at receiver to come through during camp to help expand the offense.

Toronto continued their quest for a big receiver with the signing of Allen Lazard and Josh Gordon while also bringing back Kendrick Rogers. They have some shorter options in Braxton Berrios, Darrius Shepherd and K.J. Osborn, with Shepherd and Osborn being longshots to make the roster.

Huskies break for camp in brand new facilities as second season is underway
Sebastian Barnes -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

The Toronto Huskies started their 2022 season with CB Lavert Hill getting bombed on the first play from scrimmage for a 75-yard touchdown. Two plays later, running back Jalen Hurd fumbled the ball. Even with the caveat that most of it's star players weren't playing, it wasn't the start that Huskies fans envisioned.

It was certainly the finish, however.

The passing game came together as the Huskies were able to rally to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 35-27. With Trevor Lawrence sidelined, Cam Newton went 6-for-6 for 90 yards before tagging in Joshua Dobbs who had a wonderful performance going 21 of 34 for 289 yards and three touchdowns.

The stars of the night were Allen Lazard and Josh Gordon with Allen catching eight passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns. Gordon had five catches for 43 yards and a touchdown as well.

Lawrence makes big splash in preseason debut as defense tightens up
Sebastian Barnes -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

Trevor Lawrence looked good for a rookie last year. In his second season, Lawrence looked the part of an MVP in just one half of action as the Toronto Huskies made easy work of the Detroit Lions, winning 30-13.

Lawrence threw for 255 yards and three touchdowns, one to Rondale Moore, another to Chris Godwin and another to fullback Brent Lowe. Moore had a big game, catching six passes for 91 yards and a touchdown.

Defense shows improvement as Huskies beat Titans 20-12
Sebastian Barnes -- Dynasty Sports Staff Writer

The Toronto Huskies found themselves in more shootouts than they cared for last season. They hope to have fixed their defensive woes with a few veteran additions and young blood.

Chase Young had three sacks in three quarters and the rest of the defense balled out in the 20-12 win over the Tennessee Titans.

It was a pedestrian night for Trevor Lawrence and the offense, going 17 of 28 for 188 yards and a touchdown with an interception in what was probably his last preseason game.
