Pittsburgh, PA. -If you turned off the Pittsburgh Steelers game at halftime Sunday, you missed one of the more remarkable second-half performances this franchise has produced in years.

The Cleveland Browns handed Pittsburgh just about everything that could go wrong in the first two quarters—a 67-yard touchdown run on third-and-one to open the game, a fumbled kickoff that led to another score, a red zone interception from Leonard Lawry, and a pair of costly holding penalties that turned promising drives into field goals. By the time Cleveland's Glen Wolff connected with Tony Castillo on a 20-yard touchdown strike with just under a minute remaining in the half, the Browns led 24-6 and the Steelers looked overwhelmed and overmatched on their own home field.

Then Josiah Trader caught the second-half kickoff at his own seven yard line and didn't stop running for 93 yards.

The return was a moment of electric atonement from the same player whose first-half fumble had gifted Cleveland six point and ignited a 33-point second half that transformed a potential embarrassment into one of the more satisfying wins of the Nathan Scheelhaase era. T.J. Watt took it from there, recording the first of four second-half sacks on the very next Cleveland possession, separating Wolff from the football with a vicious strip sack that Cooper DeJean scooped up and returned into scoring position. Lawry found DK Metcalf in the end zone on the ensuing drive and suddenly Pittsburgh had a pulse.

Cleveland steadied themselves briefly, converting a short field goal after Jermaine Ward snuffed out what appeared to be a more dangerous drive with a timely sack. But the momentum had irrevocably shifted. Lawry executed back-to-back touchdown drives with the precision and composure his supporters have always insisted he possessed—finding rookie Juan Steward and then tight end Gabe Gomez to give Pittsburgh a 32-27 lead with under three minutes remaining.

The defense, which had been shredded for 24 points in the first half, looked like an entirely different unit as the clock wound down. Back-to-back sacks following the go-ahead score left Cleveland facing a fourth-and-32 from deep in their own territory, an impossible ask for any quarterback, and Wolff's desperation heave was swatted away by DeJean without ceremony. Quinshon Judkins finished the scoring with an eight-yard touchdown run on the short field to push the final margin to 39-27.

Pittsburgh's defense finished with seven sacks on the afternoon, six of them coming in the second half. Watt's four-sack performance alone was a reminder that the all-time sack record remains firmly in his crosshairs.

Offensive coordinator Zac Taylor acknowledged the obvious in his postgame remarks while allowing himself a measure of cautious optimism.

"We've been kind of lethargic offensively despite some big numbers," Taylor said. "Even more so in the first half today. But it was nice to finally see everything click and watch the guys put some solid drives together. We're hoping this is the 'aha' moment that sparks this team going forward."

Whether it is will be answered quickly. Pittsburgh travels to Baltimore next week in a divisional showdown that will serve as the most revealing test of this Steelers team's legitimacy through the early weeks of the 2030 season.

Stifled Myles Garrett quite a bit and that defensive line did work in the run game. Might have a serious gamer in that QB.

I mean, you take away the 67-yard run and they only had 260 yards and 17 points, with one of the touchdowns coming off a turnover

all of his throws have sailed since the preseason, which is strange. I may be drifting too much with him

little inside baseball as senoir djp would say - I purposely went with a QB who didn't have great speed to make the offense look different than the AR15 era and raise the challenge a bit. Definitely feel it sometimes :kghah:
