2030 Charlotte 49ers Football Players Leaving
NinerLawyer -- NinerNation.net Forum

The defections have started already as Melvin Vandermade has entered the portal. Expect more to come.

NinerLawyer wrote:We simply can't pay Vandermade what he will make in the open market. I wish him well. Keeping him after that season was never going to happen

ninernoize wrote:Not surprised at all with Keaton entering the portal felt like he made himself a lot of money in the bowl game against Auburn
could see an SEC school calling for him after that performance
bigcatnc wrote:so what's even the point of college football anymore at a program like ours? we get guys. they either suck or they are good. if they are good, they leave. what's the point?
NinerLawyer wrote:You got to watch your team play for thirteen games and on nine of those days, you got to watch them win. That's the point.

Ex Tennessee QB Jamerson Shead, No. 1 recruit in '30, picks Charlotte

Quarterback Jamerson Shead, the No. 1 prospect in the 2030 class, announced Saturday that he is transferring to Charlotte.

Shead entered the transfer portal last month, leaving Tennessee after one season where he redshirted. He was widely expected to compete for the starting quarterback job this upcoming spring along with redshirt sophomore Jose Orio and incoming true freshman Barry Reynaud.

The 6-foot-2, 182 pound Shead, originally from Fort Mill, South Carolina, is the highest ranked portal player to ever sign with the 49ers and comes in the second year of Jaleel Mosley's tenure in Charlotte. Shead was ranked as the highest available freshman quarterback in the portal and the third ranked player in the transfer portal.

The Niners do return last year's starter in Damiere Pratt, a second-year starter who led the Niners to their first nine win season in program history and the program's first bowl win, beating Auburn in the Gator Bowl.

Charlotte football adds nine transfers as roster takes shape ahead of spring football
Cam McCaffrey -- The Charlotte Observer Sports Writer

Charlotte had eight players leave through the transfer portal but the nine additions will replenish the roster as Jaleel Mosley's staff have put together their first full recruiting class.

The class is highlighted by Tennessee transfer Jamerson Shead who comes with a high profile as a former five-star recruit. Shead spent last year as a backup at Tennessee, redshirting for a five-win Tennessee team, before opting to return closer to home to play for the Niners and in Mosley's offense which has produced some prolific offenses.

Other additions include receivers Patrick Witten (Cincinnati) and Javier Portilla (Texas), running backs Quincy Odeyingbo (Kennesaw State) and Joel Creech (Michigan State), offensive lineman Matthew Crocker (South Carolina), cornerbacks David Parry (Virginia Tech) and John Ware (North Carolina) as well as linebacker George Lelito (Army).

Witten is the most productive of the bunch with sixty receptions for 725 yards and six touchdowns with the Bearcats. Crocker brings some experience as a starter in the SEC, allowing just two sacks in his eight starts for the Gamecocks.
