We take over a Kansas program that is a two-star program with 21 seniors (9 offense, 12, defense). Wide Receiver and Tight End have seven combined seniors so we will need to add an impact player or two there. On defense, our best players are seniors so we will need to replenish on that side of the ball, especially since we are moving away from a 3-4 scheme into a 4-2-5 Man scheme.

9/4/26
Lawrence, KS (AP) – The Coach BigJ Era in Lawrence got off to a rough start on Friday night as the Jayhawks fell 19-13 to Ohio out of the Mid-American Conference. Ohio quarterback Nick Poulos threw for 252 yards in leading the Bobcats to the upset victory.

Ohio's defense came up with the first big play of the game, stuffing Yasin Willis on a fourth and one carry at the Bobcats 35 yard line, midway through the opening quarter.

Following an Ohio punt, the Jayhawks put together a ten-play, 80 yard drive with quarterback Isaiah Marshall scoring on a quarterback sneak on second and inches to put Kansas in front 7-0. Some key plays on the drive were a Yasin Willis 17 yard run, an 18 yard pass to Cam Pickett, and a 17 yard option keeper from Isaiah Marshall.

Ohio responded with a ten-play, 80 yard drive of their own, capped off by a two yard touchdown run from Victor Rosa. A key play of the drive was a 34 yard pass to Duncan Brune on third and 18 at the Kansas 36 yard line.

The Jayhawks would take the lead late in the half on a 40 yard field goal by Martin Connington. The defense then forced a punt, and the Jayhawks had a chance to increase their lead just before the half, but Isaiah Marshall was picked off by Kendall Bannister with just 27 second left until halftime, giving the Bobcats the ball at the Kansas 42 yard line. On third and 16 with 11 seconds left in the half, Duncan Brune ran a draw for 24 yards, setting up a 41 yard field goal from Greg Dickerson as time expired to sends the teams into halftime tied at 10-10.

The Jayhawks forced a punt to open the second half, then drove it down to the Ohio 32, but Martin Connington missed a 49 yard field goal, wide to the right to keep it tied at 10-10.

The Bobcats drove the ball inside the Kansas ten yard line, but were forced to kick another field goal, with Greg Dickerson connecting from 25 yards out to put Ohio up 13-10. Another huge third down conversion kept the drive alive as Nick Poulos found Andrew Metzger for 20 yards on third and ten to keep the drive going.

Early in the fourth, the Bobcats drove deep into Kansas territory, but once again settled for a short Greg Dickerson field goal. This time from 26 yards out, as the Bobcats went up 16-10.

Kansas then gambled on fourth and inches from their own 30. Jalen Dupree got stuffed and the Jayhawks turned the ball over on downs. Greg Dickerson kicked his fourth field goal of the game, this one from 46 yards, and Ohio went up by two scores at 19-10 with 4:45 left in regulation.

The Jayhawks quickly moved the ball down to the Ohio 15 yard line, facing a fourth and three. Coach BigJ sent out the field goal unit, and Martin Connington booted a 32 yard field goal to make it 19-13.

Ohio would pick up one first down, making Kansas burn all of their timeouts, but they did punt it back to the Jayhawks with 37 seconds left. Kansas took over on their own five yard line. Isaiah Marshall hit Dylan Edwards for 18 yards, then hit Nik McMillan for 26 yards to setup a last play Hail Mary from midfield. The pass was knocked down and Ohio held on for the 19-13 upset.

Kansas outgained Ohio 382 to 327, and the Jayhawks ran for 169 yards in the game, but could not come up with a big play on offense or defense to pull this one out. Sophomore Isaiah Marshall completed 23 of 37 passes for 213 yards with an interception. He also ran it seven times for 37 yards. Dylan Edwards ran it 13 times for 66 yards, including two runs of over 20 yards. He caught three passes for 32 yards. Star wideout Nik McMillan caught 11 passes for 107 yards.

9/12/26
Lawrence, KS (AP) – It wasn't pretty at times, but the Kansas Jayhawks got the job done, as they defeated Northern Illinois 45-38 to win their first ever Big Ten game. Halfback Dylan Edwards had a career day, running for over 300 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Jayhawks.

Northern Illinois (1-2, 0-2) marched down the field on their opening possession and kicked a 24 yard Jon Ramsay field goal to take the lead. R.J. McCullers then picked off Isaiah Marshall on Kansas' first possession, giving the Huskies the ball at the Kansas 36 yard line. But the Jayhawks defense came through with a three and out, forcing a punt that went out at the two yard line.

Yasin Willis ran for five yards on first down, then Dylan Edwards broke off a spectacular 92 yard touchdown run to give the Jayhawks the lead. The Huskies answered with a seven play drive, going 79 yards and ending with a six yard touchdown run by Telly Johnson Jr.

Dylan Edwards third touch of the game went 77 yards for his second score, to put Kansas back in front 14-10 in a wild first quarter. Edwards ran it three times for 174 yards....in the first quarter!

After Kansas defense came up with a big fourth down stop on the Huskies next drive, Dylan Edwards did it again. This time, racing a mere 34 yards for a score to put Kansas up 21-10.

Northern Illinois took just three plays to answer with Jalen Macon hitting DeAree Rogers for a 75 yard touchdown, bringing the Huskies back to within 21-17.

Kansas would have a chance to score late in the half, and almost scored seven as Isaiah Marshall hit Carson Bruhn for a 24 yard gain down to the Northern Illinois one yard line, but they had to use their final time out, and decided to kick a short field goal, to go up 24-17 at the break. Kansas outgained Northern Illinois 355-350 in a wild first half.

The game did not settle down after hafltime. Kansas' Taylor David picked off Jalen Macon at the Jayhawks 23 yard line to snuff out Northern Illinois' first possession. But on fourth and inches from their own 32, Kansas decided to go for it and Yasin Willis was stuffed for a two yard loss. Four plays later, Jalen Macon hit DeAree Rogers for a five yard score to tie the game at 24-24.

Yasin Willis made up for the stop on fourth down on the Jayhawks next possession, running it in from 11 yards out as Kansas retook the lead. A nine play, 80 yard response from the Huskies, saw Telly Johnson Jr score again, but the extra point was blocked, leaving Kansas ahead 31-30.

Two plays later, Isaiah Marshall hit Nik McMillan on a slant that went 85 yards for a score to put the Jayhawks up by eight. But Telly Johnson Jr scored his third touchdown of the game on the Huskies next drive, scoring from a yard out on fourth down. The two-point conversion tied the game at 38-38 early in the fourth quarter.

Kansas then drove 82 yards in ten plays to retake the lead on a Yasin Willis one yard run with 7:54 left in regulation. Kansas had a chance to increase the lead on their next possession, but Martin Connington missed a 50 yard field goal, hitting the crossbar.

The Huskies had a last chance, driving the ball to the Kansas 38, but a fourth and one pass was batted down at the goal line and Kansas was able to run out the clock to win it.

Dylan Edwards finished the day rushing it 21 times for 309 yards with three touchdowns for the Jayhawks. Nic McMillan caught nine balls for 167 yards and a score. Trey Lathan had 17 tackles with three TFLs and a sack.

Jalen Macon threw for 434 tards with two touchdowns and an interception in the loss for the Huskies. DaAree Rogers caught ten passes for 192 yards and two scores. R.J. McCullers had eight tackles, a sacks and two interceptions on defense for Northern Illinois.
