ARKANSAS RAZORBACKS FOOTBALL
Razorback's Recruiting Roundup
Mixed bag in recruiting this week for Razorbacks
By DeAndrew Davis
Image
HB Diego Rivera (Dallas, TX) — Top 3 - Diego Rivera has narrowed his recruitment to three schools, cutting Florida State and TCU from consideration. Arkansas remains in the strongest position for the three-star backfield threat, with Auburn and Penn State joining the Razorbacks in his final group. The 6'1", 189-pound Dallas product has become one of Arkansas' most important remaining offensive targets, and the Hogs now have a legitimate opportunity to close with the versatile running back.
LG Salesi Yu (Southlake, TX) — Verbal Commit - Arkansas picked up another piece for the offensive line with Salesi Yu giving the Razorbacks a verbal commitment. The three-star guard from Southlake chose Arkansas with Colorado and Arizona State still hanging around in the background. At 6'1", 275 pounds, Yu gives the class another interior line prospect, though the staff will still have work to do before turning his pledge into a hard commitment.
RT Kurt Diaby (Oklahoma City, OK) — Hard Commit - Kurt Diaby has officially shut down his recruitment and turned his verbal pledge to Arkansas into a hard commitment. The 6'7", 281-pound junior college tackle gives the Razorbacks a massive, more physically developed option on the offensive line. With Diaby now locked in, Arkansas has secured an important piece at a premium position.
SS Deacon Gizzi (Lufkin, TX) — Arkansas Ends Pursuit - Deacon Gizzi has given TCU his verbal commitment, ending a recruitment in which Arkansas had consistently remained among his top choices. The Razorbacks had been running second behind the Horned Frogs, but with Gizzi now pledged to TCU, Arkansas has elected to end its pursuit and redirect its resources toward other secondary targets. The decision should allow the staff to put additional attention on players such as Brian Wellman and other remaining defensive backs on the board.
WR James Mare (Broken Arrow, OK) — Top 5 - James Mare has made Arkansas a major factor in his recruitment after moving from an open process to a top five. The Razorbacks currently lead for the 5'9", 162-pound speedster, with SMU, Missouri, Louisville and Colorado rounding out his finalists. Arkansas has quickly established itself as the team to beat, making Mare one of the most promising uncommitted offensive targets remaining on the board.
DT Randall Coutee (New Iberia, LA) — Committed to LSU - Arkansas has lost out on Randall Coutee after the three-star defensive tackle committed to LSU. The Razorbacks had made Coutee's top three but were chasing the Tigers throughout the closing stages of his recruitment. With the 6'2", 292-pound Louisiana prospect now off the board, Arkansas will have to look elsewhere as it continues trying to add depth along the defensive interior.
DT Teddy Gray (Marietta, GA) — Top 5 - Teddy Gray has narrowed his recruitment to five schools, with Arkansas taking the early lead in the battle for the massive defensive tackle. Kentucky, South Carolina, Missouri and Clemson join the Razorbacks in the final group for the 6'5", 314-pound Marietta product. Arkansas has positioned itself well entering the next stage of the recruitment, but with multiple SEC programs still involved, Gray figures to remain a contested target.
SS Brian Wellman (Houston, TX) — Top 3 - Brian Wellman has trimmed his recruitment to Washington, Houston and Arkansas. The Razorbacks currently sit third for the 6'0", 198-pound safety, trailing both the Huskies and Cougars, so there is still considerable ground to make up. With Deacon Gizzi now off the board, Wellman's recruitment takes on added importance as Arkansas searches for another safety to add to the class.
RT James Pina (DeSoto, TX) — Top 5 - Arkansas has slipped in the recruitment of James Pina, with Oklahoma State moving ahead of the Razorbacks for second place. TCU continues to lead for the 6'6", 277-pound tackle, while Oklahoma State now sits between the Horned Frogs and Arkansas. The Hogs remain firmly involved in Pina's top five, but the recent movement makes this a recruitment in which Arkansas will need to regain momentum quickly.
FS Enrique Dinucci (Lufkin, TX) — Top 5 - Arkansas has also lost some ground with Enrique Dinucci. SMU continues to lead the recruitment of the 5'11", 203-pound safety, while Mississippi State has now moved into second and pushed the Razorbacks down to third. Houston and Vanderbilt round out Dinucci's top five, leaving Arkansas still very much in contention but needing a strong push to climb back toward the top of his list.
