May 2007 | RAW | Week 1

Punk lifts HBK up into the GTS.

Match #1: (#1) Stone Cold vs. (#16) Cody Rhodes | One on One | Round of 16 :fourstar:
Cody Rhodes came in as the biggest underdog in the tournament as the #16 seed, and knowing he needed an advantage, he acted a bit out of character, attacking Austin from behind before the match started. Austin rallied against his attack but definitely started off at a disadvantage. Rhodes at the momentum early, but that was cut short very quickly with an early Stunner from out of nowhere. It looked like Austin would make quick work of Rhodes, but he kicked out at two. Things continued and Cody got increasingly more desperate to try to get the win, especially after hitting a Cross Rhodes on Austin that only earned him a 2 count. He went for a flying dive outside the ring on Austin and missed and from there it was all over. Austin threw him back into the ring and hit him with a nasty Stunner to win and advance to the quarter-finals of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament.

Match #2: (#8) Bret Hart vs. (#9) Kurt Angle | One on One | Round of 16 :threestar:
This started off as a technical masterclass with two of the best mat-technicians and submissions specialists in the game going head to head. Bret had the slight advantage early but momentum shifted when Angle hit an Angle Slam against the run of play. It wasn't long till he locked in the Ankle Lock but Bret was able to use his own submission speciality to escape and reverse it into a Sharpshooter that Kurt had to crawl to the ropes to get out of. The fight continued and Kurt started to use his power to overwhelm Bret and weaken his legs. Hart went for a Piledriver but Kurt slipped out of it and locked in an Ankle Lock again in the center of the ring. Bret had nowhere to go and had to tap as Angle advanced in the first upset, albeit a minor one, of the tournament.

Match #3: (#4) Undertaker vs. (#13) Batista | One on One | Round of 16 :threehalfstar:
In a pretty shocking turn of events, Batista manhandled Undertaker from the onset here. He definitely used underhanded tactics, pushing the referee into the way and slipping in and out of the ring, but Taker never really got going. He kicked out of two Batista Bombs, but a third one came after a nasty rake to the eyes out of the ref's view, disorienting Taker. Batista capitalized on that with the pinfall and first major upset of the tournament as he advanced to the quarter-finals.

Main Event: (#5) Shawn Michaels vs. (#12) CM Punk | One on One | Round of 16 :fourhalfstar:
CM Punk gave his absolute best against Shawn Michaels and gave him everything he could handle. An Anaconda Vise early on in the match followed by a GTS had Michaels reeling and off balance from the onset, but the Heartbreak Kid eventually recovered. He hit Punk with a Superkick that earned a two count then followed that up with a Sweet Chin Music that CM Punk shockingly kicked out of just before three. Shawn went high risk after that going for a flying Elbow Drop that Punk dodged at the last moment. Punk went for another GTS and connected with it, thinking he had the match won, but HBK kicked out at the last millisecond. This frustrated Punk and then HE went high-risk with a flying body splash. HBK rolled out of the way and as soon as Punk got to his feet he was on the receiving end of another Sweet Chin Music that knocked his lights out. One, two, three. Shawn Michaels advances to the quarter-finals to join Stone Cold, Kurt Angle and Batista.

May 2007 | RAW | Week 2

Rock comes out sporting his new High Chief look.

Match #1: (#2) The Rock vs. (#15) Rob Van Dam | One on One | Round of 16 :twohalfstar:
The Rock came flying out of the gates. He was sporting his new High Chief red and black gear and he definitely showed he was the High Chief in this match. RVD never got going as it seemed like it only took seconds for Rock to get him with a spinebuster and follow that up with a People's Elbow to get the victory and advance to the quarter-finals.
► Show Spoiler
Match #2: (#7) Triple H vs. (#10) Roman Reigns | One on One | Round of 16 :fourhalfstar:
After seeing his cousin, The Rock win his match in dominant fashion to open the night, Roman Reigns wanted to make a statement of his own, but via more nefarious means. He attacked HHH from behind before the match even got going and the two brawled. Things eventually kicked off with Roman gaining the upper hand and hitting Hunter with a spear, but only getting a two count. His frustration got the better of him from there allowing HHH to regain control. It wasn't long before HHH hit him with a Pedigree, but Roman was just able to kick out at 2. A frustrated HHH wasted a lot of time then went running head first at Roman who was stumbling to his feet. Reigns countered it and locked HHH into a Guillotine Choke in the center of the ring. HHH slowly had the live squeezed out of him and was forced into a very rare tap out as Roman advanced to the quarter-finals to face his cousin.
► Show Spoiler
Match #3: (#3) Hulk Hogan vs. (#14) Seth Rollins | One on One | Round of 16 :fourhalfstar:
Seth Rollins showed incredible resilience in this one, kicking out of not one, not two, but three Leg Drops from the Hulkster. Hogan grew increasingly frustrated each time to the point where the usually good guy Hogan, ended up using the ropes for leverage after a fourth Leg Drop on Seth to get the win over the youngster. That earned him a smattering of boos from the crowd but he simply waved them off and walked to the back.
► Show Spoiler
Main Event: (#6) John Cena vs. (#11) Randy Orton | One on One | Round of 16 :threehalfstar:
Randy Orton put Cena down twice in this match with the RKO but both times Cena kicked out. Orton eventually got sick of it and took things to the outside and just started beating the hell out of Cena. The ref continued to count as Orton hit Cena with suplex after suplex. The final one came at the 8 second mark after which Orton slithered back into the ring, leaving Cena to fend for himself against the count outside. Cena did not beat the 10 count and Orton became the first person to advance in the tournament without getting a pinfall or submission. There will be no Cena-Hogan dream match.
