Such a sloppy game, hopefully we can bounce back and get our offense going.

This looks awesome, CC. Game update is legit, especially the goalie pics at the end.

Tough loss to start but only one game, little championship hangover to knock off maybe.

I appreciate the check-in man, means a lot.

Definitely a tough loss to start things off, hate that we couldn't generate any offense. We'll rally!

Pens clean up their act, Gibson backstops team past Canucks

Image

GAME SUMMARY
After a disappointing start to the season, the Pittsburgh Penguins were clear with their intent to take high-pressure shots and maintain possession of the puck, while also staying out of the penalty box in their home tilt against the Vancouver Canucks. They were dominant in their 4-1 victory on home ice, smothering the Canucks' offensive chances by limiting them to only 19 shots - including only getting three in the first period.

The Penguins got scoring from depth, opening the scoring with a smooth shot from third-line center Boone Jenner, beating Canucks goalie Thatcher Demko low-blocker side. Rookie Jonathan Lekkerimaki tied things up on the powerplay with an impressive one-timer that Penguins' goaltender John Gibson had no chance to stop.

Veteran defenseman Kris Letang buried his first goal of the season after the puck was left for him in between the face-off circles, leaving Demko with a bad angle to challenge the shot. Anthony Mantha would pick up his first of the season and first as a Penguin moments later. Captain Sidney Crosby would bury the empty netter to put an exclamation point for the Penguins for their first win of the season.

The Penguins will continue their opening home stand when they welcome Rasmus Dahlin and the Buffalo Sabres on October 19th.

including only getting three in the first period.

That seems like a complete defensive domination. Great way to bounce back. Sid still getting it done, stealing that easy empty net goal.

Vancouver has seemingly fallen on hard times, they weren't too explosive offensive (seems to happen when their best player now plays for us :curtain: )

Defensive lapses collapse Pens at home against Sabres, Blomqvist suffers in first start

Image

GAME SUMMARY
The Pittsburgh Penguins continue to suffer from inconsistency, dropping their third game of the season against the Buffalo Sabres 5-4 after a late goal from Zach Benson proved to be the straw that broke the camels back. A last dash effort by the Penguins after they pulled their goaltender proved fruitless as the Penguins go back to the drawing board.

Goaltender Joel Blomqvist - the highly touted prospect finally making the jump to the NHL after starring for the team's minor league affiliate last season - made his first start and played mediocre in his debut. On paper, he allowed five goals on 29 shots faced, but the quality of goals he allowed left fans scratching their head. This is what they were waiting for during Blomqvist's development? Maybe he isn't as ready as Penguins' faithful thought. Coach Mike Sullivan was quick to defend his young goaltender.

"We left him out to dry pretty often out there," he said. "He made a lot of good saves, but we need to do right by our goaltenders. I don't think with all of our defensive breakdowns and neutral zones lapses, John [Gibson] would have fared any better."

Sidney Crosby scored his second of the season to open the scoring for the team, Brock Boeser picked up his first two of the season, and Philip Tomasino soared into the Sabres' zone to pick up his own first goal of the season.

Shit, you're telling me. A little bit of consistency would be nice right about now
